Anyone else just saying NO to color?

I say hec no.:nono: Color plus relaxer is way to much for the hair IMO. I would only do a rinse. The two times i did color, my hair was wick-wick-wack!(that's ebonics for highly damaged)

No permanent chemical color for me either! I have used a rinse in the past. Henna or Indigo would be as far as I ever go.

I LOVE MY HIGHLIGHTS!!!:yep:

I have highlights and I never have problems with dryness because of them. I had problems with dryness due to no-lye perms more than highlights.

For me, I only use Aveda color (done by a professional). I think that makes a difference as Aveda produces good products. I also only highlight no more than twice a year and even then....not really that often.

I always deep condition and seal so moisture is constant for me.

EXACTLY!
i always feel like i'm the only one who uses aveda color!
i've been using it for several years now
and it has not caused me damage
i also do not color my hair every 6-8 weeks
more like 4-5 months
because i don't mind the color contrast

i must say i vow to never highlight again even w/ aveda products cuz
bleach is bleach and my hair doesn't like it:perplexed
still growing those highlighted parts out

I've never colored my hair either. I'm so afraid to get the dry look and I wouldn't keep it up. My hair turns red in the summer so that's my color.

I've been there, done that, won't be doing it again. My hair doesn't like it at all. It did waaaaaaay back when, but not now.

It caused two of my set backs. :nono: Never again.

I say no to color cause it's an uphill battle keeping it moisturized and healthy. I say yes to semi permanent color and rinses because I haven't had any bad experiences so far

ITA. I use a semi-permanent hair color in black, Natural Instincts, to cover gray. If it wasn't for the grey I probably would just use a rinse. My hair feels much better, not so dry and brittle.

I would be APL right now if it wasn't for coloring my hair (instead of the barely chin length I am)- I have sworn off chemical coloring of ANY type - if it makes my eyes water when I mix it up, it's NOT going in my hair, period, end of story.

With all that said, I'll be a hennahead for life, even though it's not really changing my hair color in any obvious manner....
Same here!! Words to live by:grin:,, I colored one time back in May and i kinda wish I hadnt,, i went from black to a dark but brassy redish brown,, i was a wuss and didnt leave it on long thank goodness and for a while my hair seemed strange feeling but after a few mths its back to normal,, i will not be doing it again though,, im trying cassia very soon..

I have had this burning desire to get subtle highlights.

But everyone I consult, has NOTHING good to say about it. Even though I am natural and I have no chemicals in my hair, they say it isn't healthy and one lady described it as (killing off individuals strands of my hair; the streaks that is)

I have been natural for about 6 years now with SO many setbacks, I would hate to bring upon myself any setbacks.

I say NO to color...I love my natural color....it's dark brown/black, with that natural sunkissed brown/copper.

I've been using Bigen, but I don't plan on using it anymore, after losing so much hair the last time, I'm scared to ever use it again. I don't want to alarm anyone. I'm sure Bigen didn't cause the hair loss, it was more of the way it was applied. But because of the horrible experience, I promised myself never again. It didn't dry my hair out, and I love love the color, but I want to keep the chemicals out of my hair. If I do anything, it will be Henna.

I've done semi-permanents from the beautiful collection by clairol (I think). They contain no ammonia and no peroxide and I never noticed any adverse effects. To the contrary, my hair looked very lush (because of the black) and the dye actually loosened my texture slightly for some reason.

Even though I never had any problems whatsoever with the semi-permanent dye, it was a pain how it rinsed out fairly quickly. I now use henna and indigo because I definitely want something permanent (I'll never get tired of dark hair) but I don't want to worry about any chemicals.

As for permanent chemical dyes and highlights... never. NEVER, EVER.

I must say I'm quite jealous of anyone who has naturally dark hair.:look: I desperately wish I did so I wouldn't have to use anything!

A WORD OF CAUTION REGARDING BIGEN: DO NOT ADD HEAT! ADDING HEAT WITH BIGEN SENT MY FRIEND TO THE ER WITH A TERRIBLE SKIN REACTION!

Ugh, I can't wait for my color to grow out. After that , no more color. It seems to take forever for it to grow out completely then my hair looks so dry and damaged.

A few months ago I used an at home colour on my hair and it completely ruined the texture of my TWA :wallbash: The box claimed that it was a natural product but it was all lies :nono:

I was so upset and did not know what to do. I DCed like mad and tried to restore my original texture; however my stylist told me that I would have to slowly chop off the ends to get back to where I started. I will never make that mistake again.

No color for me! But I do suggest a protein color rinse in black or dark brown so that your lighter coloured strands are in darker hue.

I've never been unhappy with my natural coloring. This past summer, I just added lemon oil to my shea butter and it gave me the color I love. :yep:

No to rinses, semi-permanent, and permanent coloring for me.

I wish I could say not to color, but I have all these raging grays around my temples. I'm too young to look old, so it's just black for me. No more of those light colors and no highlights. :ohwell:

I just recently got rid of the bright brassy ends that were the remnants of my hair color attempt. It wasn't that the color was so bad it was the condition that my hair was in after. My hair was soft, overprocessed , spongy, and very pourous. I found this forum in my quest to bring my hair back to a healthy state. Right now I'm satisfied to just leave haircolor alone because my hair is much healthier now and I done want to ruin it again.

That describes the state my hair is in now! I really need to rid myself of this color.

Regular coloring takes my hair out. Natural or relaxed.

So the only coloring that seems to be working for me is Indigo.

So I say no to regular coloring methods but YES to Indigo.:yep:

I don't color my hair and probably never will until I have to fight grays.

I'm too lazy to keep up with the maintenance. Plus I don't want to be double processed.

ditto. one chemical process is enough for me. when i get grays ill be using henna and indigo.

I didn't even think about the colorshowers or shines or whatever they are called! Those aren't permanent, right? If I were to color my hair, it would be with a rinse that would fade away on its own

Just bought gold cellophane from roundbrushhair.com last night. It's supposed to be 100% natural and in my thread searches ladies said it caused no damage...washes out in four washes!

As you see I color- It requires an inordinate amount of commitment . If you don't have the extra hour a day to pamper it- I agree don't color. I only color my hair twice a year and since I foil it in there are no large amounts of demarcation. I had to learn from a professional the first two times I wanted highlights and low lights and she said the same thing to me before she even mixed up the color. I did it one time myself with Dark and lovely- and had to go in for a corrective at Aveda. Since that time, I only do it my self. With only Textures and Tones. My daughters hair is relaxed and i forbid her to color. ( I do her hair) I tell her to sew in some colored tracks but she's a( " I don't want a weave in my hair- not even partially" snob) I think I saw on some TV show that you can only relax or color not both- but I cant tell you the who what where when or why of that.

i don't believe in coloring/ dying your hair. I think everyones natural hair color looks good. A lot of people's hair has natural highlights or changes naturally over time.....i know mine did.

I had my hair colored when I was much younger just out of high school and I lost all but 2 inches of my hair as a result. I will never ever do that again. I do however put in semi-permanent black rinses. My last rinse was I believe in May, 2007 and do you believe this dang color is still in my hair even after 2 relaxers and many many many washes and deep conditioning. I can tell because my natural hair color is like that of a #2 weave, I guess dark brown.
