Anyone else just saying NO to color?

I recently got my hair colored (highlights) for the first time ever and while it doesn't bother me, I don't think I'd do it again.

I'm in the same boat: waiting for this color to grow completely OUTTA my hair!!! :ohwell:

BUT....when I get that "itch" again for some color (as I'm sure I'm bound to get in the future), I'll probably do a temporary color--like a rinse or something that's not so damaging.

With my hair...I don't think I have any HUGE adverse effects to the whole coloring process. But it's definitely not in the same condition as the parts to my hair that is NOT colored.

Prime reason why I just said to hell with my hilites and chopped the colored ends of my hair off. The color did not damage my hair but it made it look drier and frizzer than the rest of my uncolored hair. I made the decision to chop it off while my hair was still on the short side rather than hack 5 inches off if my hair grew beyond APL. It took about a year to gradually tirm the color away.

I'm noticing this now. Also, my color seems to be getting lighter.

When I was in high school, after caring for my hair and weaving straight for 3 months, I took my hair out. Boy was it long. I thought I arrived. Then I put highlights in it. I bleached too light. I liked like Storm from X-men :lachen::lachen::lachen:. And sooner then later, I ate through my hair. I really didnt take that long to grow out from what I remember.

JUST SAY NO!

Back when my hair was relaxed and extremely damaged due to coloring, I said that I would not permanently color my hair again...that I'd only use semi-permanent.

Well I guess I put my foot in my mouth after I went natural and decided to color my TWA to spice it up a bit. Now, I'm kinda wishing that I didn't do it, lol. I miss my jet black hair already. Don't get me wrong, I still like the color that I have now (I loved it when I first did it), but I miss my black.

I doubt if I recolor, and if I were to re-color, it'd be a semi-permanent (no putting foot in mouth this time, lol).

I have enough problems as it is and I am just now on the verge of getting my hi-lites from 2006 out of the mix. I don't even think Ill cover my grays in 15 yrs.

Okay I thought yall would convince me to not get color, but i am not yet convinced. I am transitioning from a relaxer and am reallyREALLY REALLY REALLY itching for my tanzanian sand highlights REALLY!!

Before I do though, is there a healthy alternative. I want the highlight effect not the rinse effect and I don't have an aveda salon in my city. i was reading about henna and maybe i could do that if i could get a golden color out of it and not red. red makes me look sick.

I definitely say no to color...now. I have had some REALLLLY bad experiences with color...never again.

I'm a chicken too, I can't even count the amt of times I said I was gonna get color, dark brown in particular.

I am don't want to do anything to set me back in anyway. I don't have any patience anymore. lol

I am never doing permanent color again. I am texlaxed and can see from where it has grown out that the color has further straightened my hair. My wash-n-go's haven't been curly enough since. I also have highlights in front which gives my hair stylist an excuse to trim because that hair is drier than usual. I am only doing rinses now. They boost my shine and thickness and seal my hair as well as giving me a color boost that I am not forever stuck with. They even cover my gray for a while although that is not my intention.

No more permanent color for me. I keep saying it and then change my mind and then I color and then it dries my hair out and causes damage. This time I'm sticking to my guns. NO MORE PERM COLOR!!!!!! I will only be using brown rinses when I get the urge to put some color in my hair. (Gotta cover the gray strands...lol).

I put a BIGEN oriental black permanent dye in my hair 3 months ago and I had to cut my hair 3 times. an inch broke off and I just cut a half in off tonite. I'm back to where I started. I wanna cry

so HELL NAW to color

I LOVE MY HIGHLIGHTS!!!:yep:

I have highlights and I never have problems with dryness because of them. I had problems with dryness due to no-lye perms more than highlights.

For me, I only use Aveda color (done by a professional). I think that makes a difference as Aveda produces good products. I also only highlight no more than twice a year and even then....not really that often.

I always deep condition and seal so moisture is constant for me.

I want color when my hair finish growing out (think Rachel True from Half & Half). However, the difference will be I will be letting Aveda do the work. I will no longer do it myself and I will not do them often. Also, it will be the only process I get being that I have gone natural. I look forward to it! But again, I will leave it to the professionals and their advice how to maintain it. Aveda does great color!

I say no to color because I love the color of my hair and have never wanted to change it. I think I will enjoy the contrast when I have more grey, and it becomes noticable.

Yeah I'm waiting for my color to grow out as well...and when it does...no more coloring for me either!!

I would be APL right now if it wasn't for coloring my hair (instead of the barely chin length I am)- I have sworn off chemical coloring of ANY type - if it makes my eyes water when I mix it up, it's NOT going in my hair, period, end of story.

With all that said, I'll be a hennahead for life, even though it's not really changing my hair color in any obvious manner....

I am cutting the last of my color out. I cannot wait for all of it to be gone. I will love the way the dark parts of my hair looks. Every two weeks I snip away a little more of the color.

I highlighted my hair a couple of years back and beautiful golden strands ended up looking like raggedy, old weave. My advice is to stay away from color if you relax!

Oh my gosh! I was thinking this a few days ago LOL!!! I am not coloring my hair anymore, it is just too much of a hassle to keep doing it every so often to make my color stay, I tried the henna & indigo but that takes too long, so I just said whatever color my hair wants to be, it can be, Color does my hair and scalp bad & now that I have a chemical in my hair I couldn't use it anyway My crown would be bald and so would my edges.

I used Bigen in May with no adverse affects, but I won't be doing it again. I want to do henna now, but won't try it until summer time...unless I change my mind and stop coloring all together.

Chemical coloring's never been for me. When I was younger I used to want to dye my hair all sorts of crazy colors, but then I thought "Uh-uh, I'm not going to ruin my hair just so I can look like a bag of skittles threw up on me :nono:". The only thing close to color that I've ever put in my hair is henna, and when I use henna I don't use it to color my hair. I use it to strengthen my cuticles. I do want to dry darkening my hair with henna and indigo in the future, but I don't really consider that coloring the hair. It's more like hair-staining .

I say NO WAY to color! That's what brought me here in the first place. I had beautiful golden highlights that eventually ended up left on the curling iron when I tried to curl my hair. My hair turned to just a wisp of blond ratty-looking hair. Even though I grew my hair out for 1 year and a half after finding LHCF, I still had to big chop 6 inches this past May, which was the end of that ratty mess. I grew a totally new head of hair after that. Besides now that I henna, I don't need any color ever. Henna turned my real dusty dark brown natural color to shiny black with copper highlights. I love it and its natural coloring. Can't get any better than that!

I've always said no to any color, even rinses. But I started using them for the first time this year. But I would never use anything permanent. :nono:
