I use to get great growth results when I took the dietary supplement silica gel by Nature's Way, but I left it over a friends house and never got it back. I just got another bottle and wanted to see if others are as smitten with this stuff as I am. I am going to start tracking my growth after I've taken it for 1 month. I generally get about a half of inch of new growth each month so that will be my gauge.

I use it. I have really noticeable results with my nails whenever I use it. However, I use so many vitamins for hair and skin, that I am not sure if it is the Silica or not that is helping with growth.

I take the bamboo silica. Results in my skin and nails were instant I no longer break out in those huge under the skin bumps around "that time" and my nails grow like nobodies buisness. I cant tell about my hair yet cause my new growth is so soft and strait now but I would continue just for the other benifits.

Im taking the Puritan's Pride Silica (Horsetail).

Unfortunately, its hard for me to really say if its making a difference because I take so many other vitamins and of course use growth aids, protective styling, con-washing, etc. I mean, my hair is doing well overall........ but i find it hard to isolate exactly what is causing it to thrive, you know?

I will just say that i am happy with my overall regimen, and dont plan to change anything anytime soon.

I agree, I take a variety of vitamins in addition to bamboo and my hair is healthy and growing. I can't pinpoint which vitamin is doing what but I continue to take all my vitamins also.

Right! I just try to stay consistent with my vitamins, dont skip days, and so forth.........

I just purchased BioSil by Jarrow; supposedly it has the best absorption rate and, according to the staff at Whole Foods, is more effective than horsetail extract.

I just started on it on Sunday, so I have no results to report; I'll have to let you all know in a few months, plus I still have these cornrows, which are getting thick..ng everywhere!

Here are the stats on the Bio-Sil:

-100-day supply in each bottle
-you take 6 drops a day, either mixed in a 1/4 cup of juice or other drink or you can put it in an empty capsule (the staff said it was really nasty, so I got some empty capsules from The Vitamin Shoppe) and take it that way; it doesn't take too long to do
-Whole Foods sells it for $26.99, but The Vitamin Shoppe had it on sale for $21.75, not happy, got mine at WF!

What brand of Bamboo Silica are you taking? I've tried Bio Sil 2x and it didn't seem to work plus I hated the taste. Is the Bamboo Silica in a liquid form?

Biosil is mad expensive. the studies they've done are really sound though.


Check around on the internet. I've found it for 9 bucks a box. (not the liquid, the caps)

It MAY have affected my hair though i'm not sure how much. I don't have all that much new growth which for 13 weeks thats a little odd. could be that its made my new growth straighter, I don't know

With my joints though, they feel pretty good! much better than they've been in a long time actually.

I take 20MG a day. (4 caps)

I haven't taken my silica all summer but I've started taking it again at the end of September. I believe that for me, my hair grows in stronger so it may not contribute to speeding the growth but if it's going to help keep it strong, I'll continue taking it. I purchased my silica from my local health food store but it's also available at drugstore.com and The Vitamin Shoppe.

I prefer the gel over the liquid or pills. I try to take all my supplements and vitamins in liquid form since the vitamins are better absorbed by the body.

My hair grows out softer with a looser curl. I really believe that the silica had something to do with it. I take the VitaminShoppe brand of horsetail silica. I used to take the Kal brand silica but it wasn't til I switched to the VitaminShoppe brand when I started noticing the difference in my hair.

I've taken several brands of Silica (the liquid Bodyworks kind, Biosil capsules, and bamboo silica capsules). I can't say I saw results with hair, skin, or nails...but then again after two months I just stopped taking them all together.

If you take it long enough you will see a looser curl pattern...I've been taking it daily for 14 months...I have fotki pics to prove the changes in my hair...I'm 100% natural no chemicals at all

Sareca experienced the looser curl pattern as well. If you do a search you can find the thread she started last year about silica.
