DID YOU KNOW....HORSETAIL IS NOT THE BEST SOURCE OF SILICA?

Hmm, maybe I should start eating bamboo shoots again. I don't know why I even stopped...
That's a brilliant idea, maybe we should start a bamboo hair challenge,
ok ok.....maybe my idea is a little far fetched, what does bamboo taste like again? I vaguely remember trying it in a chinese meal a long time ago, it was quite crunchy, but i can't remeber the flavour.

Den1 its a good thing you posted this before I ran out to Holland and Barrett to get some horsetail tablets:lol:
I am currently not taking any herbs, so I'm looking for an excellent herb for hair to take...
Den1 You are the tablets, pills and supplements Mogul:lol:

I would have NEVER heard of bamboo extract supplements for hair if you hadn't said!

I have too much space in my supplemnts cabinet, so Ima be hunting for bamboo extract.....

Den1, out of all the herbs you've tried, what herb has been most beneficial for your hair?
Girl, you know i was crazy hair vitamin scientist back in the day, i wisjh i was more consistent as i used to be, i'm making a come back now..watch out!!!! lol Horsetail is a great herb, howver since recently finding out that bamboo silica contains a high percentage of silica, I deceided to experiment to see if i liked the results. I've also tried fo-ti which is excellent for restoring hair colour, shedding and thickening hair, i've stopping using it because its so hard to find. I 've always liked horsetail, because it makes my hair shine and stregthen however it takes me a long time to see visual results. Out of the two, fo-ti was far more beneficial.

I recall the flavor as very mild, but very crunchy. I used to get the canned version because certain types had to be boiled nearly to death due to toxins. I will check out health food stores to see if the options have improved.

I just bought the Solaray brand as well!!
Oh brilliant let us know how it works, when you start seeing results. How many milligrams of silica in the soleray brand? My power health brand contains 250mg of organic silica per capsule.

INTEESTING!! Chinese Medicine uses bamboo tabasheer for reasons other than growing hair. They call it Tian Zhu Huang.

For those who are curious, this is how bamboo silica is naturally produced:

"It is formed in the joints of bamboo which have been damaged, particularly (though not exclusively) from the action fo wasps, which bore into the joints and lay eggs. When the eggs hatch and the mature wasps attempt to chew their way out, the damage to the joint precipitates accumulation of the rising sap of the bamboo. As the bamboo ages, the sap dries and solidifies, forming this substance. The quality of the product is related to the activity of the wasps; if the mature wasps fail to escape and die within the bamboo joint, the product is pure white; if they do bore thei rway out and escape, the resulting holes allow contaminating bacteria to enter, turning the product black, which reduces its value."

However, most of what you find on the market are synthetic products, especially in China, Indonesia, Malasia, Singapore and Thailand. This is how the synthetic product is made:

"Bamboo sugar is made by drilling holes in the bamboo sections and filling them with water. After about 6 months, the dride secretions begin to appear. The synthetic product is harder, less absorbent, and its aqueous solution will turn red when exposed to phenolphthalein, wheareas the natural product will remain colorless. "

I've been searching for Bamboo extract but it's not that common in health shops....

I'll probably just buy Horsetail, or 500mg Silica from Good ol' Holland and Barrett.:)

Look ladies: Here's an idea. Go to Chinatown in your area. If you have the name of the product in Chinese, they will be able to help you I am sure. I paid $1.98 Canadian for Foti which is also He She Wu. In Chinatwon I buy it in a yellow and navy box, 100 tablets, made by Shanghai Chinese Medicine Works, from Shanghai, China. It is sold under the name SHOU WU PIAN. It is 100% from the herb Radix polygoni multiflori. That is what you really want. The Foti they sell you in Health Food Stores is not 100% of this same herb or made by the Chinese generally. It works on the liver to blacken the hair and grow it and for other body needs. It has the Chinese Trade Mark symbol of authenticity. I found out about it from Chinese Doctor. He said get the "real thing" and a Chinese lady wrote it out in Chinese. So when I went to the store I got it no problem. I am sorry I am not able to duplicate letters with the type. The one caution...do not take when you have a cold. Hope this helps, because they charge an arm and a leg for the "Foti" LABEL, over here. The bottom line is this is the authentic herb content 100% based on the extensive research I have done on it. You may want to check it out doing a search on Yahoo for yourselves. bonjour

Yeah. They are out of stock online, so I called my local vitaminshoppe and they were out of stock too (this must be very popular stuff, to say the least) So the woman on the phone said that sha will order it for me within 2-3 days. I placed an order for 2. If it works, I'll get her to order more.

Well, i'll received a lot of regrowth since taking silica over the last 2-3 weeks.

I just got the call after 2 weeks to say that my Solaray bamboo is in. It only cost me $10.85 per bottle. I'm going to go pick it up after work today. Well, when are we going to start our Bamboo challenge? Den1 are you ready? Set the date!!!

:p

Den approximately how much growth have you received in the last 2-3 weeks since using the bamboo silica?

I just received my bamboo gelcaps from LuckyVitamins today and took two of them. I am hoping to get as much growth as I can before December 29th (hair cut).
