i took my son trick or treating last night, and of course everyone is checking out everyone else's costumes (or lack thereof).

it was like every other black girl i saw was at APL! and yes, i was nonchalantly checking to see if it was their real hair or not. most of the time, it was. on the one hand, i say it's a good thing... more black women out there with healthier, longer hair helps dispell those myths that we CAN'T grow our hair. but on the other hand, it did make me feel very ordinary, LOL! it was like we all came out of the same hair mold. was it really the length, or the fact that i'm used to standing out because of my big coily fro? :look:

*okay this thread didn't really have a point... i know... that's why i don't usually start them... LOL

I love seeing Black woman with long hair!!!

I have heard so many say that we cant grow our hair out. But that's not true.

And LadyLibra, thanks for starting this thread! It's definitely a good one :yep:

Was your hair straight and APL too?
Just asking because one of my friends was travelling and went to a club where she said all the black girls were dressed in black and hair silky shiny, black APL hair. She has natural hair, but had gotten it straightened and said she felt like they were all robots. She said the same thing that you said about feeling like everyone came out of one mold and as soon as the party was over, she washed her hair and started rockin her BAA.

ETA: I dont think its the length, I think the style can have a big impact, especially if its just straight. I like straight hair, but adding some curl can add flair, too

I notice a lot more women with longer hair now, too. It's wild- but also, great. Also, I had to post because of your avatar. Is that your son in his cookie monster costume? Too cute!!

yep. i know EXACTLY what your friend was feeling! :yep:

now grant it, we didn't ALL have the same styles. i had more body than anyone. some girls had sleek straight hair, some had sections that were crimped, some had rollerset curls or ponytails that i estimated to be around APL when down and straight. i was just amazed that SOOOOO many of us were around the same length! and it's probably been this way for a while... ya know maybe these girls were hiding in braids over the summer or something and i just noticed because i just realized i'm officially APL.

it's always nice to see healthy heads of hair, whether short or long, but when it's longer and healthy-looking it just makes me feel a little proud.

yep... the best costume ever... trust me he is a cookie monster IRL too! :lachen:

I am hair obsessed so I am always checking out other women's hair length. And to be honest I usually stood out as being the black girl with the long hair. I don't hold that distinction alone as often as I used to. I guess I should be proud that other women are learning to be patient and love their own hair too. On the other hand this is partly what feeds my desire to have waist length hair, especially after my brother mooned over this woman's waist length hair. i was a little jealous and tried to come with excuses as to why my hair wasn't that long and then I got on the internet and within a few days found this website and realized there is a whole world of women really, really into hair their hair as much as I am. Thank you sistas I am so glad that I found you!!:grin::grin::grin::grin:

I check out people's hair too :look: I saw a girl today with long hair and I couldnt stop looking at her:ohwell: hope she didnt notice
