Checking in here with 3C hair! I think of 3C as being coily, like the spring to a ballpoint pen, when it's unstreched. 3B is coily too, just more the circumference of a piece of chalk.

This board is the nicest group of people I have ever found on a bb! I'm glad I found it!

Awww....thank you and so are you!!! I'm glad you found us too!!!

ETA: I just realized...I have been a member with happycurls since January. I think they were still working out some kinks when I joined, so since I'm always over here, I kinda forgot about it. But now, I'm there and I see quite a few there that I know. I appreciate you reminding me of it!

My pleasure, twin ;) !

Have you tried Curly Pudding, wanted to know the difference between the two.

I'm in too! We do need support. My hair is so fickle. It could look nice curly or a poofy mess it changes textures all the time it seems like. When I was natural I could never get a nice twist out because it wasn't course enough or the exact curls I wanted. Now that I am relaxed it's never straight enough I always have some sort of frizzy edges or something. Anyway glad this thread was started.

I've never used the Curly Meringue, but have used the Curly Pudding. I can almost justify the $38 for the large size, but the $10.44 for UPS shipping just kills it for me. Maybe if they shipped it with 24 hours of the order, but my last order took two weeks to get here...... Wish I was closer to NY.

Your pics look great Vangrey, you have really pretty hair.

How did you Type 3's wear your hair when you were younger?

My 2 year old is a type 3... Just wondering on what to do with her hair besides 2 curly ponytails everyday.

P.S. Her hair loves the Curly Meringue.

My mom did multiple ponytails anywhere from 1 - 12. But she would always twist the ponytail (one large double strand), braid the end and put a barrett on the end.

I think I am going to buy the small container of the curly meringue and see how that works.

Funny. I thought I was the only one who walked around with all those ponytails as a child. I have a picture when I was 2 with hair all the way to my butt so I guess that is the only way my mom could handle my hair. I remmeber every Sunday getting my hair washed and detangled  and the put in like 16 ponytails with the colored rubberbands!! She would change my barretts depending on what I had on.

My mom gave all of us girls the exact same style. Two braids or a single braid down the back. Brushed and rebraided every morning. We wore our hair like that until we started doing it ourselves (and destroying it) around 12 years old.

When i was young my mom would just wash condition my hair let it air dry with some oil in it and keep it in one or 2 ponty tails or one oe 2 braids... For special things she would oil and blow dry it and I'd wear it out.

no i havent... sorry:(
but if you are in the 3 family,
i suggest you try the curly meringue
when i went to go purchase it from the salon
they said that the curly pudding
is more for people with tighter, frizzier curls

I didn't know that, all this time i've been using curly pudding. Thanks!:)

I think I've said this before, but I LOVE your hair!

So after much research I finally think I have typed my hair, my NG, is 3c. SUPER CURLY... I love it because I cant wait for the final result to be WL with flowing curly hair, but right now, my hair is starting to eat me out of house and home. It refuses to stay moist, the slightest bit of humidty and it throws a fit, and since I am transitioning without the BC, my relaxed ends look like they are holding on for dear life sometimes. I have bought and tried almost any natural prdouct that you can think of to KEEP my hair moist, so I came up with a concontion that has sealed in the moisture and kept my hair in a lovely condition..

I didnt measure any of these just put in what I knew would be enough for my hair:

Silicon Mix, 4 vitamin E pills, Cold pressed oil, carrot oil, pantene prov conditioner for waves and curls, Biosilk; silk therapy serum, Mane n tail deep conditioner(moisturizing), and lemon juice

I mixed it all up and put it in the microwave for 20 seconds. I slapped it on my head, and worked it into my scalp. put a shower cap over my head, and let it sit for about 1hr. while I did other things. I rinsed it out, and let me tell you, my hair, has NEVER behaved so well, relaxed or natural. I think I will only do this once a month (dont want to unbalance the protein and moisture). I am loving my transition, but now even more that I can tame my hair.

Hi Ladies,

I am a 3c/4a - i think. I have defined curls. My strands are silky soft and fine but i seem to have sooo much hair and its gets quite frizzy.

I've been natural for 18 months and i'm still figuring out my hair.

I've recently realised that i shouldn't be treating it as a 4a/b hair type as i was just ripping the hair out of head. :nono:

I've also realised that if i apply products to soaking wet hair, the products seem to become diluted and by the end of the day my hair is still wet but has a dry/crisp feel.

So now i wrap my hair in a towel and apply products to damp hair. My hair is much softer for it.

- All i can do is Cowash.
- Twists on my hair seem to encouarge it to loc up :nono:
- If i do large plaits or twists on my hair overnight the result in the morning is an awful crinkly afro.
- I'm afraid of the comb as every time i use it i can literally hear my hair snapping.
- The shedding right now is crazy....if i don't wash for a few days my plug hole in the shower is full.

I think i need help.

you are gonna get single strand knots if you wear a lot of WNG's or if you wear your hair out often. The only way I have found to REDUCE (not completely get rid of :look: ) the amount of knots is to comb more often and use my denman once a week to get rid of shed hairs left behind from my wide toothed combs. Those shed hairs left behind will eventually tie its self on to other strands of your hair if not removed.

Are you using the brush on wet, damp or dry hair?

I can SO relate to most of the bolded part! :ohwell:
I can use some help too.....

Sounds like 3c all right! :yep:

and since I am transitioning without the BC, my relaxed ends look like they are holding on for dear life sometimes.

I can relate since I am in exactly the same boat - I am armpit length, my last relaxer was in June 2006 so I have about 7 or so inches of virgin hair, and I don't plan on big chopping. I experimented all summer and have found a pretty good system for dealing with these curls, but I think curly hair = expensive hair because we curlies are always looking for the next greatest thing!!

I like your conditioner concoction and I plan to try a version of it. There's also a good 3c support forum over at naturallycurly.com

Have any of you ever tried any Cantu leave-in products? If so, which ones and how do you rate them?

I use the Cantu Shea Butter Leave in. I LOVE this stuff. Gives great hair everytime. IMO, it's heavy enough to use alone if you're into layering products. It also adds weight. It does contain a heavy cone so after about a week of usage I'll need to use a sulfate shampoo to get it out. I use the Shampoo from the Cantu line for this and just follow up with any old conditioner.

Thanks Curlilocs. I bought some of this today and so far so good. It’s thick but not greasy or sticky.

Another 3 peeping in...I'm glad this thread was started! Yeeeeaaaaa!!! I mainly lurk, and it's hard trying to track down more 3's to see where I fit in. Where's my twin!!!??? Twin, if you see me, PLEASE claim me. I have this crazy love/hate relationship with my hair, not to mention, I don't know what to do with it. At some point I want to go natural but, I can barely handle it in it's relaxed state.

My issues
1.) My hair is always dry--- I moisturize the ends nearly every morning and evening, then seal, then a couple hours later--it's D-R-Y!!! WHY, WHY, WHHHYYYYY!

2.)The slightest increase in humidity and my head looks like a mutated dandelion...ugh! Nothing (that I know of) seems to get rid of the frizz but to wash it and start over again.

3.)Trying to nurse my hair back to good health due to a previous hairdressers mistreatment. So, I'm just a sponge trying to soaking up all this advice and great knowledge.

4.) Still trying to figure out my air drying routine.

Thanks for sharing, everyone!

3 checking in. I tried to transition but couldn't do it. I relaxed after 6 months in and you can't even tell I relaxed. My hair didn't change!!!!!

I was having so much issue with my hair while I was transitioning, it wasn't funny. When I did phony ponies, I couldn't predict the texture of my hair. Some mornings I would wake up and it is was too curly and other mornings, it would be straight.

I tried wigs but it was too hot!!!

Finally, I found twist-outs and fell in love but then the breakage started and I realized it was either BC or relax. I couldn't bring myself to BC so I chickened out and relaxed!!!!

What i did last night - and my hair loved it.

I used Porosity Control Shampoo (i don't really know what its meant to do but i used it!)

I then applied Motions CPR treatment conditioner (the one with the bits in it) and put on a plastic cap for 30 minutes.

Rinsed and wrapped hair in towel for a few minutes.

Applied Motions CPR Anti Breakage Lotion

Applied warm Vatika Oil to scalp and hair and twisted my hair in about 10-12 large twists.

In the morning they had dried and my hair was soft and shiney.

My twist-out never look good so i applied a little more of the lotion and pull back into a puff.

Can anyone tell me the purpose of Porosity Control shampoo?

yes that is similar to my story. I wanted to transistion but I would probablyneed to BC and NOPE! I was 6 months post when I texlaxed. Now I am about 3 months post and contemplating how it will go. The reversion in humidity is what got me last time.
