When shopping for hair products what are the no-no's when looking at ingrediants on the labels? What are good things to look for?

I can't speak for everyone but I think the NO NO list includes:

petroleum
mineral oil
'cones (silicone, dimethicone, etc)if your hair doesn't respond well.
sodium lauryl sulfate (or SLS) it is the foaming agent but has been argued here to cause more damage than good.
I personally try to avoid 'bens (propylparaben, methylparaben) but some have no issue with it.

Those are what came to my head immediately but I am sure others will chime in with more stuff.

Moisturizers/moisturizing products often have water as the first ingredient.

I mostly try to stay away from cones, parabens, 'bad' alcohols, lanolin, mineral oil, petrolatum/petroleum and shampoos with SLS. I think that's it, there may be more that I'm forgetting

Petroleum
Cyclopentasiloxane:nono:- horrible cone! My hair feels coated and sticky with this particular silicone.

ITA!!! Especially if the first word starts with these, i immediately put it back on the shelf!

Dang I can't believe I forgot the alcohol /the instant dehydrator of hair products.

this is true except for stuff like cetearyl alcohol & cetyl alcohol. those are fatty alcohols, which are actually good for the hair.

c/s with everything else listed, tho. also, in addition to SLS, poos with ALS are even worse.
