My hair styl;ist is starting to moan about relaxing my hair

its too long

its too thick

IT NEEDS TRIMMING

..no it DOESNT!

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

i air dry my hair, and leave it to dry naturally. shes middle aged and quite feisty

i was at a party last night, and do u know what she said to me

"comb out those dreadlocks before you come and see me"

the ****** cheek. i felt to tell her she can stick my money up her a!se!

god, and now, because my hair is this length, i don't know if anybody would WANT to relax it no matter what i pay

or relax it properly

what the heck am i gonna do?!

she keeps driving it into me that i need a trim

i had a trim 4 weeks ago. she proceeded to show me MY own AIRDRIED ENDS and said "this much" needs cutting..psh, 3-4 inches...have you lost ur mind woman?!

please help me, i feel like chopping my hair off, cos it seems all people wanna do is chop it OFF

Your hairdresser is scaring me...whatever you do, don't let her cut it. From the way she's talking, she's going to butcher your hair if she gets a pair of scissors on it.

Girl, don't let that jealous wench cut that gorgeous hair! You JUST got a freakin trim! Have you tried to find any other stylists in your area? Maybe you can ask some friends what salons they go to. I know this is discouraging, but don't let these dumb stylists get you down! :bighug:

i've never understood why the length of someone's hair is even a concern during a relaxer touchup.

Neither have I. It's not like they are relaxing the entire length of the hair; if they are then they don't know what the heck they're doing.

It's time to ditch her and consider self relaxing :yep:
At this point she is going to do more harm than good and destroy your progress. Check out SoutherGirl's fotki for self-relaxing tips and start practicing with conditioner.

Same here. :look: Why would that matter? Section the hair and get to it.

I have heard of stylists that have a problem when people stretch for long periods of time on any length.

Hey, Candy C!

I think she is just hating because she:

1) probably doesn't have any hair of her own to toss around

2) doesn't want to deal with it, and,

3) just wants to cut it

After her rant, I wouldn't let her near me with scissors. Run, Candy! :auto: :Run:

Sweetie, follow YOUR goals for your hair and no one else's. Get a new stylist, or start learning how to DIY. If you want your hair long, then keep it long no matter what anyone else says.

Candy run don't WALK from a stylist like that! Have u considered self realxing and trimming?

Oh no she didn't @ the bolded!!!! Don't cut your hair, and the next time she says something about it, confront her right there. As for the relaxing, she seems to do a wonderful job! Especially if you are at WSL. Maybe you two can come to a compromise. For instance, a few days before relaxing, detangle it and then wear a big braid or twist until she gets to it. HTH! Good luck girl!

Its funny that she's using LONG and THICK like they are bad adjectives. I think thats the goal of most/all of the women on the forum! :look:

And the dreadlocks comment, that was just malicious. I wouldn't let anyone back in my head or my wallet who talked to me like that. I think she wants to cut your hair, classic scissor happy stylist.

The moment your stylist starts talking like that to you, know its time to find a new one. One that not only loves doing hair no matter the length. If she is getting lazy just because you are achiving your hair goals then you need to find a new one because you dont want to be sitting down there biting your nails while she butchers your hair. If this woman is jealous of your hair all she has to do is ask and maybe you could fill her in on the LHCF...But I think you should stay away from this one especially when she is mouthing off like that when you are paying her to do your hair.

First of all, if you NEED a trim and JUST got one 4 weeks ago, that means she's not doing HER job.:ohwell:

Secondly, she's a stylist. This is the profession SHE chose. So the fact that she's complaining about how long and thick your hair is sends up a MAJOR red flag.

I'm not sure how long you've been going to her. But either way, she should be proud to have you in her chair. She should be treating you like a walking advertisement of her services, with nothin' but TLC. The fact that you trust her with your hair alone, should be enough reason for her to act like she's got some sense.

YOU PAY HER, not the other way around. So if she's sending you bad vibes and you can't be open and honest with her about how you're feeling, perhaps it's time for you to discontinue your relationship with her.:ohwell:

I don't understand. It's not like your hair in dragging the floor and she has to pass the relaxer all the way thru. You only relax the roots right? You have three options:

1. Find another stylist
2. stick with her and cut it to shoulder length
3. Go natural and do it yourself.

Right, ITA because at the end of the day, you have to live with it everyday, whereas she is only looking at your hair at touch up time. Whose input should carry more weight?

Agreed! Don't let her or anyone decide ultimately what you want to do with YOUR own hair. I wouldn't let her bring scissors within 5 feet of me!

The last time this happened to me (at a JCPenney salon) I made sure I found a way to spite her without spiting her.

She complained that my hair was too thick from airdrying and that the relaxer didn't take... this and that... too much work. She ended up charging me more and said next time, come every week and we won't have this problem.

I booked with a hispanic lady the next time. Said former stylist came up to me and said, "Oh, why didn't you want me to do it for you?"
Me: "Well, last time you said my hair was too thick and hard for you to do, so I'm trying to find someone who doesn't mind taking the time to deal with my hair."

The look on her face was priceless.
These stylists act as though they're paying you to do your hair. I'm starting to get tough with them.

She is a hater. Cut her loose. Find someone who will honor your desires. You are paying her for a service....she's not doing it pro-bono....so WHATEVER it is you want, she should honor.

LMAO,

and I felt really bad after saying it. I kept trying to smile at her while I was under the dryer, but she didn't look at me. I still feel bad! Imagine that!!!:ohwell:

But Imma stand tall. You should too Candy C!

Why is it that Caucasian people do not have to go through this..I know so many that have mid back length an no one hassles them to cut their hair ...time to :roadrunner:

If she doesn't want to do it find someone else
If she's incapable of doing it find someone else
Key - find someone else or try to learn how to do it yourself

Whenever someone is too pushy and you get bad vibes, move on...it seems like she can't be fully trusted anymore :ohwell:

Run, Forrest, RUN!!!! No, seriously, stay FAR away from this woman. She does not have your best interests at heart.

You have a nice head of hair. I definately wouldnt let her cut it if you dont think u need it. If you like how she does ur hair just tell her that u dont like the way she spoke to u and that she should apoplgize. I wouldnt self- relax though. I would find a new stylist before i tried that on waistlength hair.

Candy_C I am surprised that something like that actually upset you. You always seem so in control of your hair care and of what you want. Most times, we hear folks saying things like that and brush it off and move on - not get upset about it. If we all left our hair care goals up to others, none of us would have hair. That's why we are all here, I feel - to take control of our own haircare and achieve our goals. Don't depend on someone else when it comes to what you want.

ITA 100%!!!!! How DARE she talk to you like that!!! She'd see no more of me or my money after that remark!

Please don't let that ignorant, jealous, malicious woman near you again!!! Little does she know, she made a complete fool of herself with that biting remark. If there were anyone at that party that was considering her for their stylist, I guarantee that killed it! Who wants a stylist that publicly tries to humiliate their clients?!?!?! As long and as thick as your hair is, people were probably wondering why you'd even go to her. :yep:

DON'T listen to a thing she's told you and for damned sure don't let her discourage you! Your hair is gorgeous and you WILL achieve your goals.

If you don't go with the DIY, ask your next stylist if she/he will listen and respect your wishes - the main one being "we will not discuss cutting or trimming unless I mention it first, even if years have gone by."

Interview
them, write a list of questions to get their opinions on trimming, relaxing, stretching, detangling, etc. The good stylists will respect you more for interviewing them, for they will know you will be a long-time customer and a walking advertisement.

If you decide to audition a stylist, see how they handle your hair with a wash-n-set. No chemicals. If they're too rough or start talking about trimming, walk out. There are stylists that care about the health of your hair. It's just a matter of finding them.

cut your stylist, not your hair. (okay don't literally *cut* her though) :lachen:

people want to relax your hair often because that's how they make money.
check and see if they ask around rent paying time...
