Loc'ing Up!
I cannot find a leave in for my hair. Literally, everything I have tried leaves my hair crunchy, waxy, hard. Maybe I just don't know what my hair is supposed to feel like when it is moisturized.

I am so in love with my hair, but leave ins are the one area that stumps me. I want to wear a fro on the weekends since it is warm, but I can't do that without the proper moisture.

Could it be possible that you put too much product in your hair? or maybe your hair needs less than most?

Oyin handmade hair dew. I use it alone or under qhemet biologics amla olive and heavy cream.

Leave-ins are a problem for me as well. The best I have used is Nexxus Humectress(old formula) as a Leave-in and it worked best using it as the C in the LOC method. I think method of application matters a lot as well

Foxglove

Can you pls list your top 3 leave-ins?

Those are my leave ins. I used to use just the qhemet amla and olive heavy cream until I found the hair dew. Now I use the hair dew by itself or sealed with the amla and olive heavy cream and my hair stays soft and moisturized for daysssss

The best cone free leave in for me is:

Hairitage Hydration -
Soft Coconut Marshmallow

-crazy moisture
-crazy slip

I would first ask when was the last time you clarified?

Try doing an apple cider vinegar rinse followed by a deep conditioner. And then try some leave ins.

I like

kinky curly knot today.

Hairveda Busy Izzie moisturizer.

Or olive oil rinse after i shampoo and rinse my conditioner to seal in moisture from the water and condish

I clarified today. I am about to rinse my deep conditioner, then apply Devacurl One Condition. I don't seal afterwards though. Maybe that is my problem?

I use Qhemet AOHC as my twist cream, but it doesn't seem to work when I apply it to my loose hair. I know that seems crazy.

Should I just mix my leave in with a little castor oil?

Arian The AOHC is actually considered a sealer. Maybe consider using a small amount immediately after moisturizing and then use as well to twist.

For me, it was about how I applied it. I only use a leave in after washing my hair. I realized that my hair took it better if I applied it after my hair was about 50% dry.

I always put it on right after washing. Maybe that is another issue. I used the Devacurl mixed with castor oil and my hair is a bit on the hard side. I am about to spray a little water/glycerin mix and seal with Qhemet and see how that turns out.

Try Darcy's Pumpkin Seed Moisturizer! It's great and I use it as a detangler after I wash on dry hair.

Not everyone can use a LI. It's too much 'stuff' for my fine strands. Like you, it leaves them crunchy and hard. Long enough use of LIs dries out my hair. I think it's the bazillion chemicals they put in them that my hair does NOT like left on. My scalp either. It ends up flakey and dried out too.

I just use water and or a tea spritz with a little oil in it. My moisture levels are just fine.

I just started using alaffia Shea butter curl enhancing leave in. This stuff is AMAZING!! It leaves my hair soooooo soft & moisturized. This is the best leave in I have ever used. I don't really like the smell of it though.

Have you tried Komaza's products for your spritz and leave-in's. They work the best using the LCO method. Speaking of this, have you tried this layering approach? It works great. I spent years looking for the right leave-in and finally settled w/their products.

I like these a lot
Shescenit coco cream leave in
Shescentit tahitian leave in
Shescentit honey rinse condish
Giovanni direct
Silk dreams wheat germ butter
Darcys Pumpkin seed condish
Darcys Daily leave in
Darcys shea butter moisturizing cream
Silk Elements leave in cream

Wow thanks! I bought Aphogee Pro Vitamin leave in and my hair really seemed to like a spray instead of a creamy leave in. I never thought that my hair was too fine (and I'm relaxed) but it makes total sense.

Perhaps you live in a place where there is hard water? Hard water can really wreck havoc on people's hair because it deposits minerals into the cuticle and thus leave ins won't be able to do their jobs. So I would recommend not just clarifying but also chelating, then wash with distilled (bottled) water and see if that makes it difference in your hair's reaction to all those leave in's you've tried.

Castor oil never worked for me as a sealant. But others love it. I use olive oil and it works better for me.

I use about a quarter size amount on each half of my hair. I'm BSL.

What kind of tea spritz? DarkJoy

are you doing a twist out or a wash n go to get the fro look?

I have been doing my version of a wash n go. I used to do a twistout and let it magically turn into a fro. I may consider going back to that method.

I need names . What are you using? virtuenow

I use a moisturizing conditioner as my leave-in. Products labeled as leave-in typically don't have enough moisture for me. Right now I mainly use CJ Beauticurls argan and olive oil conditioner.

I learned about leaving in conditioner from my old stylist (she was Deva trained and that's one of their tips). They actually rinse the conditioner and leave some in the hair. I do a DC, rinse, then apply conditioner as my leave-in.

Seriously it is one of the best tips for naturals!

Also my hair does better with a little heat. I use a blowdryer on cool and stretch my hair lightly with a hands as I'm drying it. I'd probably need to moisturize my hair again in a few hours if I did a straight up wash and go.

I agree up until my most recent wash I would apply leave in to wet hair. This wash I let my hair air dry in a t shirt for 1 hr and then applied leave in followed by serum. At first my hair felt coated but once dry and days later my hair feels so soft and moisturized.

Arian, I literally just make a cup of tea and put it in a spray bottle for a week with some oils. Currently my herbal tea blend is:
1. nettle (aka stinging nettle)
2. burdock root
3. oolong

Oils are one or all of: grapeseed, EVOO, argan

Some ladies just use simple green or black tea (like Liption).

After I spray, I seal with a butter or oil then twist it up. Done!

i think you are using too much. i have fine hair and can only use a tiny amount. you maybe better with liquid leave-in sprays instead of creams. unless you are using heat, or wearing a straight style, i don't think it is necessary. after you dc, you just need to moisturize.
