i know i'm not the only one that has experienced this. i experienced a very annoying situation today.
I had my hair down and my white friend was telling me it was pretty and why I don't do it that way everyday.. this part didn't irritate me because it was just a question, but OMG after i *tried* explaining to her that my hair NEEDS constant breaks, especially because I'm still growing it out, she was just saying oh well, i think it looks really nice down and straight and i still think you should do it everyday, but she said it in an offensive/borderline insulting tone.
like as if i don't know what the **** i'm talking about. it's MY hair, run along now with all your volumizing shampoos and leave me and my beautiful hair alooone :gunner7: ugh! like does she really think she knows how to take care of my type of hair? :lachen:

This is why I never wear my hair out around people I see daily minus my family.

I hate this too

"why don't you flat iron your hair everyday, it looks so nice"
because if I flat ironed it everyday it wouldnt look like this! URGH

Yeah, that's annoying. A couple women have said to me, "If I had all that hair, I would (relax it/keep it straight/bleach it/dye the grays/etc".

In my head, I'm saying, "Whatever girl, that's why you only have 6 inches of hair and 4 of those need to be cut due to damage". :lachen:

Ain't that the truth! I learned not to take advice from people I do not want to be like, whether it is hair or anything else.

My cousin was trying to tell me what to do with my hair and she has never EVER been natural. Its funny how when you show progress of your hair (whether it be length, shine, popping curls, etc.) all of sudden people are experts on what you NEED to be doing with your hair. And its always thepeople who don't take care of their hair.

i love this forum. you guys FEEL ME on this though. like wth makes you think that I want to accept hair advice from you? I'd honestly MUCH rather have my hair than her flat hair which has actually gotten considerably shorter for some reason.
like what if i told her you look good when you wear your padded bra and booty shaper, it makes your body look nice. i'm not that mean, that might actually make her cry. it's just so irritating cuz she can hardly take care of her own damn hair.

This reminds me of when Arlana told us she was at the beauty supply store and some people were fawning over her hair then a stylist told her to use PINK LOTION :lachen:

Omg this all day! I used to be in high school with BSB relaxed hair and kept a bunch of activator gel in it and put it in a high bun and girls would be so rude saying that my hair was ugly and that I should straighten it.
"If she'd straighten it, she would look like she cares about herself." WTF lol. All said comments were from girls with fried twigs, burnt hay and dry brambles for hair.
Now I know, that curl activator was keeping my ends intact which is why it stayed longer and moisturized 'looking' (more like soaked) lol. I still love that curl activator though.. Gotta get some... :look:

Everybody that tells me that is bald on the sides with horribly damaged hair. :nono: I just smile and say, "Thanks for the suggestion."

It's really annoying when ppl confuse "something different" (usually something that conforms with their beauty standards)with nicer. I wear my hair up everyday and it looks nice! I know it...'

People don't seem to realize that their opinions are just that, THEIRS and OPINIONS. In exercising their desire to express them, they forget the rights of others to NOT hear them.

I've had this happen to me, too. Especially in the beginning of my natural hair journey. Then I shaved my fro off completely didn't hear nothing after that.

But I think people with raggedy hair try to live vicariously through people who have nice hair.

When someone offers me unsolicited, bad hair advice, I just mentally tune the person out, nod and KIM. I don't want to hear that mess.

A few years ago I was apl and I was sitting at a lunch table with a friend who happens to be a hair stylist so this woman comes up to me and ask if that's all my hair and I say yes she then asks what relaxer do I uses to I tell her vitale lye and she says oh I thought lye relaxers are bad my friend chimes in with YUP, it is!! I told her she needs to switch to no lye and stop using white ppl (joico) products I sat there so shocked and couldn't say a word coz my friend hair was literally so short it couldn't fit into a ponytail without pins, and no her hair isn't short by choice. I just don't get it...

Yes it's always the ones lacking in some way that have the most to say about what you should do with your hair. Black, white, or whatever... some usually have comments. I just give a blank look and kim.

how in the heck is joico "white people" products? *facepalm* wow, how is she really gonna act like you're doing wrong when you have just been asked if you are wearing a weave! I wish people would stop putting others down to make themselves feel better about themselves. When they could just put work in to their own heads and a few problems would be solved.

Very well put! :lol::spinning:

I tell them: "I know what's best for my hair, that's why it looks like this." If I followed everyone's advice, it would be stuck at shoulder length.

I think some people tell others what to do because they can't do it themselves. Not to be rude or anything. Like when people say girl, if I were rich like you I would go on a shopping spree and buy up everything I see chile, why are you sitting here sad... blah blah blah. But to a rich person they would think the person is annoying. It's like a dream to them. If they had your hair, they would wear it out everyday and so on and so forth.. only because their hair is shorter than a snap!
