After understanding a few things i started regretting stuff i did to my hair, and then made a plan of what i'll do to get to my goal.

if you don't mind sharing (this will also help a few of us, and give advise, or bring up things we never thought of and help throughout our journey).

so just answer below (ill add my answers at the same time) :

What are your biggest regrets concerning your hair :
-why didnt i try to learn more about afro hair...(thinking lots of water was damage:grin: , and more stupidity)
-i regret waking up so late on starting a hair journey !
- Not being patient = i broke lots of hair detangling and not feeding it at all!!:nono:
-never deep conditionning :what was i thinking !! laziness....maybe thats why i have bad retention .

Your hair projects/goals (or advices) :
-Reaching my goal : Maybe MBL ...lets even see if WL is possible :yep:
- how :Being patient and gentle while detangling
-Not buying products just because everyone says its good (more reading)
-i need to get the perfect moisture-protein balance (im on this since like 2008) so difficult....
-started dc seriously since last week.

ok your turn if you like sharing !!:grin::drunk::yep:

What are your biggest regrets concerning your hair :
- wearing weaves for so much of my life. If I hadn't done that I would have loved my hair a lot sooner.
-i regret waking up so late on staring a hair journey ! - I am with you on this one. I started so late but I'm here now so that's what matters.
- Listening to other people about my hair not being "good" and then treating my hair badly because of it.
- expecting my hair to do something and be something it just isn't. Your hair can feel the negative feelings :lol:

Your hair projects/goals (or advices) :
-Reaching my goal :Well now that I finally made shoulder length my new goal is APL. Ultimately I do want to try for WL but I do not want to seem too ambitious for no good reason:lachen:
- Mastering the itchy scalp. Darn it, this will be the end of me

I don't think I have much to contribute since I am still so new to this. After all I am only shoulder length. I have more regrets than anything but I didn't want to fill the page with them.

What are your biggest regrets concerning your hair :
- That no one had warned, or prepared me for postpartum shedding...I was blindsided
- That I didn't wait longer to texturize the first time, and that I used the texturizer that I used (Pink Short Looks)...it killed my curls, and I ended up BC'ing a 2nd time!
- that I stopped using MT to bandwagon hop. HUGE MISTAKE!!

Your hair projects/goals (or advices) :
- Attain WL or HL
- Continue doing what works
- Slow down with my PJ'ism! I've already got a hold on what works...no real need to fool around with what doesn't!
- Work on improving density of my hair.

yeah lets not take too many risks. (im also trying to stick to what is working, althout i just orders aubrey organicss 5 min ago...)lol

Biggest regret: Not keeping it simple!!!!!!!!! I cannot stress this enough. Its so easy to get taken in with so many products, processes, texlaxing temptation, tools, heat. If I'd have KIS from my join date I'd have waistlength natural hair by now-_-

Project: KIS. Spray my cornrows daily with diluted African Royale. Protect with satin caps at all times when using wigs. For two years. Have patience

This. A huge thing for me. I forget how to be patient. I think 2 years is such a long time, I can't wait that long, what am I going to do. But time passes so quickly and you wake up one day and you have WL hair. That would be something. :spinning:

biggest regret - buying into that 'heat is the devil' nonsense

I have no goals. My hair has already surpassed what I thought it would do.

Regrets
- Relaxers- did nothing for my hair but give me stiff, brownish, broken off hair. Hair stayed the same length for 2 years. Never again:blush:
-Abusing heat

Hair projects
-Completely transition to natural
-Get my length back and then some, aiming for WL or TBL.
-Give my hair and scalp the proper nourishment it deserves, it's the least I could do after subjecting it to high heat and relaxers.
-Make my own custom hair products

Regrets:
Spending so much money on products! And I still can't say i'm over it.

Goals:
only have 1 of every type of product at one time. that way i can still try something new when i run out
keep growing! I'd really like to see just how long my hair can get

What are your biggest regrets concerning your hair :
*excessive manipulation over the past 7 years of being natural, which I believe caused unseen breakage and splits, therefore less retention
*getting my hair trimmed at a couple of salons which really turned out to be hair cuts
*experimenting with wash n go's which cause single strand knots and matted hair strands
*not being extra gentle with my hair during the wash, detangle, and style process
*doing hair styles that may cause tension on my hair strands
*flat ironing with grease too much... I wish I knew about using serum earlier in my journey

Your hair projects/goals (or advices) :
*wash my hair every 2-4 weeks
*only detangle after washing and conditioning my hair
*blowdry my hair carefully after every wash
*style my hair into a quick and easy protective updo style
*no more trims or cutting
*hope to reach MBL by the end of Dec 2012
*hope to reach WL by the end of Dec 2013

~~~~~~~~~
I am still APL/BSB length after all these years of being natural. No more twistouts, twists, buns, wash n gos, or flat ironed hair for awhile until I reach my hair length goals. Twistouts=too much manipulation...twists=unravelling ends that tangle up hair strands...buns=tension on the sides of my hair which can cause unseen breakage...wash n gos=single strand knots and matting...flat ironing=splits...
So protective updos and pinned up hair styles will be my solution hopefully to retaining hair length.
BIGGEST HAIR REGRETS:
* Not using protective styles to retain length sooner...been a member since 05 and just started PSing in 2010 :look:
*Not putting down the comb and not decreasing heat sooner than I did....I used to flatiron once a week(sometimes twice:ohwell:) and combing everyday :nono:
HAIR PROJECTS/GOALS:
*continue to PS using wigs...3months at a time.
*continue to just leave my hair alone...i wash/dc once a week and use Scurl every 2-3 days by just spraying my twists...once or twice a week i redo my twists.
*relax/texlax every 3+ months.
*trim (if needed) every 3+ months....dust ends once a month.
I hope to be bsl by the end of the year :yep:
i bought that too and respected it like hell .... from bc in 2008 to about 2011 no heat... guess what : i started really using it this year and my hair loves being stretched that way. so blow dryer is ok for me. but i better be careful on flat ironning (i have fine 4 type hair)
2 years with no rétention is so fustrating. this has happended to me. even this year.i made apl in january and im not going anywhere ....annoying. i felt like just shaving everything off !
I regret using bleach and permanent color on my hair. I regret going to this certain stylist for a trim.
Hair Project
Restoring my hair to optimal health
Incorporating the right protein in my regimen
Using a hair supplement
I regret:
Braided hair extensions
Hair Weaves
Dying my hair multiple times
Not doing Protein treatments after relaxing
Double processing my hair by relaxing too soon
Not trimming my hair regularly when it needed it
All those years (over 20) of not m&s'ing. Shame.
Abusing heat
Not using a heat protectant when using appliances.
Cowashing
Not regularly washing my hair
GHE
Goals:
My current goal is APL which is approximately 1- 1 1/2 in right now.
Eventually I'd like to be WL or longer.
everything you said is exaclty what happens you my hair. natural since 2008 and im between apl -bsb ... i have been bad at retention!!! twists arê à problem ill end up with knots even taking them down slowly...i cant really find thé perfect ps for my hair...is your hair fine? mine is! so freaking fragile. i am also planning on washing every 2 weeks min (no longer everyweek) .
my hair does better when stretched. after wash i also blow dry i. sections. each section is put in à twist after blow drying it. then i take the twists down like 1 hour or 30 min after and it looks nice.
go on girl. do the maximum to get wl.
how come you regret cowashing ? wasnt it leaving your hair moisturized ? i thought it does that
Biggest Regret: Cutting all the goddamn time!
Hair Project/Goal: Getting to Waist, then Hip...then...cutting again... to donate again lol (i just don't learn)
It never did anything for my hair. I wanted to love it but my hair said no.
I have no goals. My hair has already surpassed what I thought it would do.
Have you had success with heat? I am in a battle with myself about this... I use heat often (once weekly)... But I truly condition and protect my hair when applying heat :)
What are your biggest regrets concerning your hair :
Not transitioning sooner. My last relaxer was in May 2010, despite thinking about it in January 2010. I know it's a matter of months; but, I would've been closer to my three year transitioning goal :yep:
Your hair projects/goals (or advices) :
Focusing on health, fullness, and thickness, rather than immediate length (My hair's pretty long, but I'd rather focus on the previously mentioned attributes.)
Keeping my regimen simple. The less the better for my hair.
2 years with no rétention is so fustrating. this has happended to me. even this year.i made apl in january and im not going anywhere ....annoying. i felt like just shaving everything off !
Yes it's very frustrating. I could have been at least Bsl by now. I would stretch for 4-6 months yet when I finally relaxed my hair wasn't noticeably longer. :nono::ohwell: Wasted 2 years of my time, I will never get back lol. It wasn't working for me, so I stopped.
Now my NG is 1-2" away from SL while my relaxed hair stayed at SL, grazing apl but honestly looked horrible.
I hope you find the solution to your retention problem =)
Yes, my hair strands are fine. My hair does better when stretched out as well, not airdried but blowdried. I've kept trying to embrace airdried hair but couldn't. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. The times it didn't work outweighed the times that it did. So I'm just going to stick with blowdrying after I wash my hair and just make sure I'm extra gentle when doing it so that I'm not tearing my hair out.
My biggest regret:
  • Trusting stylist with my haircare
  • Not stretching my relaxers longer
My projects:
  • Self relaxing
  • Maintaining my OWN haircare
  • Improving my diet and vitamin regimen
Regrets: Not becoming natural sooner.
Projects: Trying out more natural hair care products- I keep finding so many things that are better than the last. Becoming APL and beyond.
