Most of the White & Latina women I know think our hair in general does not grow and that we wear weaves. One of them even mentioned that her balding father could grow hair better and faster than a black woman. They know my hair is real and that I hate fake hair. I discuss hair with a white friend of mine and she is supportive of me growing my hair back because relaxers damaged it.
This is why I would avoid hair conversations with white or latina women. I dislike the assumption that we cannot grow hair that our hair is somehow inferior. I also hate when they feel the need to ask questions about weaves like they are sooo ignorant about them. Hair is multi billion dollar industry are we really supposed to believe that black women as a minority are buying up all the weave by themselves (sure those clipins and fusion don't count as weave )

OP, I read your first post and I'm still trying to find out what your frustrations have to do with her race or skin color? :perplexed

OH and FYI, Latin women can be 'black' (of direct African descent) also.

I didn't want to say anything, but I don't understand why she is upset her friend doesn't want to accept 'all hair is not made equal.' I am the opposite because I'll have a problem if my yt friend implied my hair was in any way deficient to hers because it was different.

Yt and Asians can have coarse hair. In fact, East Asians are the ones with the coarsest hairs.

I am not upset that she doesn't want to accept it. It is annoying but not enough to make me upset the way it made her. She was upset because I said trimming your ends has nothing to do with the hair growing out of your scalp. Which isn't a race thing. Even some black women think the opposite. And all hair not being made equal (whether she agrees with it or not) does not make one type deficient. Just because 2 things are not the same does not make one better. Further more my friend would never say that one's hair is "better" because of hair type. Her only "problem" would be I suppose is being misinformed about the trimming and also about some of the things (i.e. the Monistat) some women do. Which is where the race thing came into play. She assumed and acted as though only women of color would/will do things like this. That was all. I hope that makes more sense.

In popular parlance, the 'made/created equal' phrase implies a deficiency of one over the other. That may be the reason she is resistant to that point of view.

I am with your friend on the monistat thing. I don't care what race, I cannot get down with that .

Send her a link to long hair community. In fact send her this thread: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=156 :giggle:

I cant help because I wouldnt be telling all my black woman hair business to someone who wasnt black. We can commiserate about conditioners or trimming, but I wouldn't be discussing this board and everything we do here, and I definitely wouldnt be painting the picture that all hair is not created equal. All hair grows. That's equal in my book.

KammyGirl We are a minority. The vast majority of women are not even remotely checking for hair the way most women on hair boards are. Shoot, even some women on the boards don't care that much. Everyone's goals and level of involvement is empty. I guess you have gotten your initiation. Now, you know to keep "Order of the Slippery Conditioner" business where it belongs. :lachen:

Kinda off topic I guess but my sis used to warn me about heat years ago then she got her instyler last year used it everyday no heat protectant... Then I warned her about heat and heat protectants.

She now uses dove hp but stays with her instyler cause "it doesnt get hot, it doesnt cause any damage".. That burn mark on my scalp from her using it on me proves it gets HOT on low.

And that trip to the salon that cost her an inch and a half of hair proved my point about heat everyday. I actually didnt say anything. Yall I was so proud of myself for not sayin "i told you so". She doesnt even know I have that thought in my mind. All I can do is smile and keep on my hhj.

I don't really like to talk to anyone about hair off the boards. That is why I love to come here. BUT.... I do talk in minimal conversation when it is bought up. Still then, others who get in the business mess up a good thing. So I stay away :yep:

I never had an issue with it. Actually the best hair stylist I ever had was white. She had naturally curly hair & she knew what she was doing. Great at detangling, flatironing, cutting, coloring & she did my relaxer. It was a white salon & it was a great experience. I went there for 5 yrs.

I learned surprising things... Like one friday before a long holiday weekend maybe 4th of july or labor day the salon was packed with women getting their hair done, highlights, blown out etc & everybody was discussing their plans & practically all of the white ladies were talking about pool parties, beach or lake plans and almost all of them were saying "I wont be swimming, I dont get my hair wet". I was shocked, I just chuckled to myself.

I had an experience at work today where a pretty young lady asked me about my braid outs. They were actually twist outs. She then asked me what I do to the ends and I replied i bantud them. I was so short because I was busy. She obviously knew the lingo though. If you're out there reading this boo, I wasn't trying to be stank, I was just busy!!! Come in any other time and I'll hair talk you forever! :-)
