haircrush/chime big chops her sister's hair!

Her hair looks awesome and so does her sisters, you can barely tell the difference between the relaxed and natural hair because of how loose their textures are so I would've just evened out her ends and called it a day.

@My Friend She is definitely not 4a, if you watch her wash-n-go video, she has minimal shrinkage and her hair is best described as wavy with some loose curls not coily like 4a hair. If you watch her video of her doing two strand twists on her hair it just stays elongated, it never shrinks so she doesn't have coils at all, its loose waves and curls, and 4a hair is afro textured and tightly coily, not curly.

I think people who don't have tightly coily hair claim 4a to seem more legitimate, because most people are aware of how much easier it is to retain with a looser curl.

I think Embrya gave you two perfect examples, I'll add to that RusticBeauty, AliciaJamesMusic, BeautifulBrownBabyDoll

BlackMasterPiece. I wish I could thank you a hundred times for everything you said in this post!

I dunno why in the hayle she claims 4a/4b.. Guess she just wanna belong.. But she already does... Someone should tell her she ain't gotta lie to kick it.

4B Hair: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOepzcLqrTo

I watched all of her videos.. And I have yet to see a patch of 4a let alone a patch of 4b.....Possibly she claims 4a/4b because she HAS had long hair since she was a little girl and she would like to validate her "struggle" ...And she does come off as somewhat of a natural nazi to me...She's always saying little things like "Well you shouldn't even want to straighten your hair because you should love your texture" ....If a natural wants to straighten her hair for a weekend... Then let a sista do dat. Tis all.

i think it's odd to embellish hair type.

Taren is a 3b/c and is rather popular. i'm subscribed to her. now, my hair would be jacked to death if I wore my hair like she does and i know she spends like 1/4 of the time on her hair than i do (from her vids where she does her whole reggie on film) but still... that certainly doesn't make it less legit.

in chime's defense her hair is peculiar. it doesn't even curl up like Taren's or even the conditioner method lady. it just dries in waves and kinks up like type 4 hair w/o shrinkage :spinning:

The weight of her hair could be throwing off the typing. It isn't in the 3 category and doesnt have the characteristics of a typical 4. This is why I think hair typing is bogus. Our hair can't be confined to such a narrow range. Either way I adore her hair because it refuses to be defined.

Every thread of hers ends up in an argument over her hair type
Why not just enjoy the pics/video and if you like her regimen take tips. I don't understand why all the argument to stick her in the box of what hair type she is. It doesn't negate her hair or the growth she's had

Whaaa???

I'm so confused...

What funk is there to fake?

This...

If you have 4a-4b hair and you have acheived super long hair like chime then your ''hair journey'' is deemed more authentic as you prob had to STRUGGLE with your hair and didnt have it easy like those type 2-3 *****s who can do ANYTHING with their hair and still have it grow long....:look:

I have seen comments like this throughout my time on the board

The only difference between her hair and many others is that she doesn't have shrinkage. The kink is still there though.

I do agree with aquajoyice, "hair type", in terms of the AW 2-3-4, a-b-c is a bunch of crock.

If she is 4A....I guess this must be 4C... Lawd I must be 4H then.

ETA: I also think that maybe because her hair doesn't have that "type three shine" (y'all know what I'm talkin bout)... She categorizes herself as type 4... Well.. You don't necessarily have to have that shine.. to qualify as type 3

Yeah she got a head of pretty hair. and yes. I know.. many of you don't care to talk about what type her hair is... Well clearly I do. And what? If you all still feel the need to make comments like "well I don't care about blah blah blah" then don't even mention it.

Hayle.. This lil clear child look more like a 4A than Chyme...

I suppose he is a 4b/4c then:

I don't care what her type is. I just want the thickness that she has! I'm sure that has helped with her retention. My fine stuff loves to split and break.

Oh and the "maybe its her hair being weighed down by length" thing is a no-go for true type 4's (unless they're fine haired, which most aren't). I am 2-3 inches shy of WL and my hair still shrinks down to 4-5inches, which means even when I reach my goal of WL or even if I go for TBL I will always have my wondrous shrinkage, it doesn't change with length and I have coarse strands. Either your hair naturally hangs or it doesn't lol Chime has very little shrinkage

This doesn't take anything away from the fact that she has gorgeous hair, but once you watch her styling videos you can see she doesn't have to go the extra mile that tightly coilies have to and I don't like when people are inaccurately typed because it can be confusing for newbies and make them feel alienated like no one has their hair type and rocks it in all its glory.

ok so...I thought I was 4a but I guess not, I'll never know what set to claim I guess . Just a thought, can't their be people, like chime, whose hair type is between 3c and 4a? not mixed like the nape is 3c and her crown is 4a but consistently between two types becoming its own type...just a thought

BlackMasterPieceTHIS!! :yep::yep:

I dont have a issue with curl typing but i agree with this statement 100%

I had a friend who didnt want to join the board because she was convinced everyone has curly hair NOT kinky hair here

This is why typing to me is irrelevant on naked hair as from my own personal experience coarser hair like mine will frizz OUT it WONT coil up or shrink up like a 4a but will just be big and bushy just like chime

The moment you apply gel to it you see a curl pattern like this woman below

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Texture and curl pattern are different not every type 3 has silky or fine hair that cant hold twists or can be slicked back with water

my hair is like that when unmanipulated. i have shrinkage though.

i think a lot of ppl just don't fit on this stupid system.

Honestly, I don't know why people hold Andre's system like the 10 commandments as if that wasn't just some ish dude arbitrarily made up years ago to sell some books. Of all the black people in the world why try to fit everyone's hair into 4a or 4b?

People claim hair typing helps with hair suggestions which makes sense if you can't see the person's hair and you're reading product/regimen reviews on a msg board. But we're looking at Chime's actual head of hair, calling it 3,4,a,b,c won't change the way it looks. If you're the type of person who only takes advice based on hair twin-ness, you're looking at the chick you can figure it out.

eta every other thread is about how evil hair stylists are, unknowledgeable, untrust worthy but this one man happened to be Oprah's stylists and we just took his words as gospel and ran with it, fighting the hair type crusades for Andre :lachen:  People calling themselves the knight templars of the hair type system, riding in on their horses to defend this man's random words :cowgirl:

I gotta agree with your post. As for the bolded....Yeah I hear you but...even after all of that the product/regimen may cause havoc on your hair. At the end of the day we winging it and some are soaring and some are on the ground trying to pick up all the hair breaking off their head. Chime has a gorgeous full head of hair, that girl is soaring and knowing her type or reggie won't help me get off the ground.

Beautiful ladies and beautiful hair!!

*As a side note, this is one of the reasons I stopped using the ridiculous "hair typing" system. imo a letter/number combination is too vague to tell you the characteristic of your hair strands (density, texture, porosity, thickness or lack thereof, etc.)

The "hair typing" that we're used to is only referring to the size of a curl and not all the extras that I think are far more important (like the ones listed above). Ahh well I digress.

MissAlinaRose Do we need a system at all? Or can we (LHCF) come up with a better one? This site has a plethora of knowledge and so many heads of hair and brains that if members wanted to we could make a new system that eventually could become the new way for everyone to type their hair. Product suggestions would be more appropriate and and usefull with a system that takes into consideration the things you suggested. Well thats just an idea...

DayDreamist That is an interesting suggestion, and I'm not sure I have a direct answer to that. I mean, I think the reason why Andre Walker's system is appealing is that it appears to be simple. Choose a category (1 straight, 2 wavy, 3 curly, 4 kinky) and your life will be simple.

WRONG. That lady in the one category can have coarse strands (indivi thick strands) and hair that is dense (a high number of hair strands on the head). That type 4 kinky can have fine strands (very thin hair) and not so dense hair (not a lot of strands; twists, braids, other styles may not seem full) and low porosity (the inability to absorb product/moisture/etc.) I mean the scenarios are endless.

That's why I describe my hair the way it is in my siggy. Granted, I haven't listed everything, only the essentials. Should we list the essentials...in my opinion it would help us more to know..."Ok yea my hair is Medium Coarse, yea my hair is high in porosity, yea my hair is not as dense, yes my hair is afro-textures, wavy, whatever. I think that will be more realistic. That new typing system would be like the lottery, endless combinations lol. It's a thought though.

BTW, your hair is lovely!!

MissAlinaRose I agree and I just had another idea. I'm in school for health information technology and apart of that is medical coding and when coding you don't use just one code. You code everything using the appropriate code. It would be nice to be able to simply code my hair but you're right, the combos are endless and I don't think anyone would want to bother.

Lol. Like every time Chime breathes on camera we argue about her hair type.
I believe she is a 3d.

Thank-you! And it's funny because even if you found your hair type twin doesn't mean their products will work the same on your hair. Typing can be helpful but I wouldn't base my life around it.
