I've scoured this forum multiple times, subscribe to all the gurus on youtube, bought every book on the subject and I just can't do it anymore.

I have super ultra kinky 4zzz hair. No matter what I do it rolls, balls and knots on itself. I don't like looking like a boy in twists, Tired of fake hair and wigs, can't make a decent bun, and none of the cute styles work for me because I have no damn edges. They started to fill back in but unfortunately like the rest of my hair it just wants to knot on itself. I've DCed, cowashed, oil rinsed, you name it, I've done it, but the nature of my hair just seems to want to be a TWA.

I'm just sick of it. I'm chopping it all off, getting a relaxer and rocking a short and sexy cut.. I'm tired of spending hours of maintenance on my hair only to still look busted.

Sorry for the rant, bring on the flames.

No flames here,

It's not for everyone.. in fact, I'm borderline on the same page as you. (especially the zzzzzzz)

No flames...I say do what you feel is best for you. If someone doesn't like it then that's their prob. Can't wait to see the new short cut...perfect for summer.

There are plenty of Relaxed Threads that will help you maintain healthy, relaxed hair.

You'll do great. And I'm certain you will reach your Relaxed Hair Goals.

I think this being a hair forum and all we forget, that at the end of the day it is indeed just hair! No flames here--if you want to switch things up to better fit your lifestyle go for it. And yes, please post pics!

Shoo, I've been contemplating dying my whole head because I'm so bored with it!

I believe in looking fabulous everyday. So if that means that I'm natural and rock a natural style and look fabulous...great! If that means that I'm texlaxed (which I am) and decide to wear my hair straight or in a braid out....great!

No one is going to tell me how to wear my hair. If going natural didn't do it for you, then there are other styles that might. Either way enjoy your healthy hair journey. That's what it is all about. I would love to see how you rhair

Note: Always try to choose to make a change when you are calm and not in a rush. That way you will never regret the decision. But keep in mind that hair is hair...if you don't like it, you can cut it and/or change it up. :)

:) No flames here... In my experience my natural hair texture needs to remain twisted and left alone in order for me to retain length and my sanity... If that doesn't work for you... relax, color, cut... do anything you want and be happy... If your hair is still a TWA then you dont have much to lose... you can get it back in a few months if you get tired of your new look (whatever it is)... Good luck.

ETA: Please relax first, then cut. Will give you more options when you decide on what style you want to go with.

Kbragg,
Just do you!

I thought relaxed heads had more trouble with working out though. Did you think about that?

My only suggestion is to NOT cut your hair until after you relax it. Promise me that.

I was also natural for 2 years and went back to relaxers, no harm no foul.

I feel you on the hair. I have that same zzzz ball hair  It just always looks startled  And she's really pissy about everything for the most part.

Do what you need to do. I believe there is a thread on here for women who were natural and now relaxed. Is that true judy4all?

No harm no foul. People jump back and forth all the time. It's your hair. Who cares what anyone else thinks.

:grouphug:Do what you need to do to enjoy your summer. It's just hair. If you want to relax now that's fine. You can always go natural again if you change your mind in the future. Life is stressful enough don't stress about hair. It's yours you wear it how ever it looks good to you.

Hugs not flames :grouphug:

It's been 20x's harder working out as a natural than relaxed. As soon as i start to sweat my hair starts to knot up:nono: It refuses to stay stretched. The only way my hair is ever manageable is if I'm wearing fake hair or looking like lil bow wow and I'm tired of both:lol:

I'll hold off on the cut as much as I can but I'm sure I'll lose a good 2-3 inches just because of uneveness and SSK's alone:nono:

faithVA I don't think there is an official natural - relaxed thread... I just posted a "rant" thread, relaxed, and headed over to the relaxed threads.. hehe

Working out is not hard for me at all... (5X a week I try to work out)... I just do a bun, tie my edges with a scarf, and workout... it will get wet... but I leave the scarf on until it dries... After it dries, I moisturize and seal if necessary... tie down and go to bed. I co-wash once/twice a week without issues.

Please relax, then cut.... Straight hair hides uneven hair very well... One of the reasons I relaxed was cos of how uneven my natural hair was (twists looked odd to me).. after relaxing, they didn't cut much except the split ends... and my hair looks like an even blunt cut... no complaints here...

I fully understand, I went back to relaxing because of split ends from the SSKs, the excess pulling and stretching wet hair and sheer frustration.

But I think once it's relaxed and in the state you plan to wear it, you can assess better how much you need to cut off without going overboard, IF you are trying to keep as much length as possible.

No flames I will be following suit later this year. Natural for 4 years and it doesn't seem to go anywhere I do indeed feel very trapped. I wished for a different texture but alas I have some unknown stuff at this point..Relax then cut then pictures

Do what's right for you! Hair should accessorize your beauty, not cause you undue stress and aggravation. Can't wait to see pics of your new style!

Do whatever makes you happy and puts that extra bounce in your step. You can always return to natural hair at anytime.
