I like that chunky twistout! How many twists did it take?

Oh gosh. I can't quite remember cause that style was around the beginning of the year.

Maybe 20-25 twists I am guessing because my twists will come unraveled if they are too big cause my hair is so thick.

I do remember that my hair was already stretched from twisting a few days before that style though.

I just washed, deep conditioned, and cleared my hair (haven't cleared it in a full week and not much hair lost) and it seems to have gotten a bit fluffier from when I first started the co washing and watering every night.

I'm gonna post pics of my hair when I first take off the scarf in the morning to show how it looks before I spritz with water and olive oil and style.

It usually looks like a helmet but it is really easy to work with.

gawjus :yep:

and by 'cleared' do you mean finger detangled? :look:

how long have you been doing this? i must started about 6wks ago now. maybe 2 full months. i hope i'm doing it right. how long does it take you to do allllla that hair?

Thanks for the feedback ladies!

I have been co washing every night for a week and when I do, I merely look for balls or knots that I can detangle while my hair is slathered in conditioner.

I can't run my fingers through it but I pull at it from the roots and my fingers will feel around for balls or knots.

I don't think that I will be able to detangle my hair with that method only so I cleared it out by first shampooing then slathering it with Mixed Silk Deep Conditioner from root to tip.

Then I sectioned it off into about 8 sections and used a plastic afro pic to comb it from tip to root because the deep conditioner makes my hair very forgiving and allows me to comb through it.

As I cleared a section I twisted it and clipped it up and once I was done with my whole head I took the twists down and ran the water through it to get my fro back.

The whole clearing took about 15 min and I still had hot water left to finish my shower! lol

I lost about a quarter sized ball of hair so the shedding wasn't that bad.

I think I will be using this clearing method every Saturday night.

And here's my morning helmet head just before I spritz it, put curl lotion in it, and style.

The morning helmet head pic is when I take off the silk scarf and my ends are dry but my roots are still damp. I look like I have on a hair net.

All I do is spray with olive oil and water and fluff with some curling lotion, style and go.

I never manipulate my hair when it is bone dry.

The lotion that I have started using is Strictly Curls Curl Defining Lotion by Marc Anthony.

It's alcohol free, paraben free, and animal testing free.

There are other chemicals in it but hey...there are chemicals all around us.

It's really slippery and I like it so far.

Here's a pic.

Thanks for posting! You will certainly be an inspiration for many!!!

Thank you!

4b hair can be a real challenge but if there is any way that I can help by showing my routine...I would love to!

And, to tell the truth, it doesn't matter what hair type a person is.

I just like sharing and soaking in all of the good information that I have received on LHCF so far.

I'm loving that third one! How did you do that?

If you are talking about the chunky twist out...I had my hair stretched for a few days before that (due to loosening and twisting again with shea butter) and I put my hair in about 20-25 twists and took each twist apart and pulled each one downward to stretch more.

Then I kind of blended in the front by finger combing towards the back, pinned it back, and kept the manipulation of the back hair to a minimum so it would keep the chunky look.

I have a feeling that I would probably have a hard time recreating that one!

To tell the truth...it could probably be achieved nicely with blow dried hair that is twisted with shea butter for the quick stretch look without having to wait for days worth of stretching.

Then as the back gets less chunky after a few days, just pin the back up also for a puffy bun look.

@GoodMernin

How do do your Frohawk?

This is done in the shower.

I do a co wash on my hair with Tresemme curl hydrating conditioner and while the conditioner is in my hair I pull it gently from the roots because this seems to keep my hair stretched and untangled.

As I do the pulling I use my fingers to look for knots, balls, and/or tangles and if I do, the conditioner makes my hair slippery enough that the ball either slides out as shed hair or the tangle can be manipulated apart easily.

When I rinse my hair, I am still pulling down ward to let the water run through my hair to rinse the conditioner out and it also keeps the hair from tangling too much.

When I am done I shake my head a few times to get rid of some water and also to help with shaping. It depends on your hair length also with the shaking.

While my hair is still dripping in the shower, I spray with olive oil and water and pull at my hair again to get the oil all in there. (shake the bottle while spraying so the oil doesn't rise to the top).

When getting out, I wrap a tee shirt loosely over my hair and pat a few times. I let it stay on for about 5 min.

Take off the towel and shake again. Pat the curl lotion on the hair ends then pull at the hair again to coat the strands from root to tip.

Your hair will still be a little runny but it will stop dripping in about 20 min and it will dry into the desired shape and style.

Push up the sides with the big hair pins and shape up again by pulling into shape and patting to feel for dents.

You may have to spray a few more times with oil and water to make hair pliable.

You can shape up with spray and use hair curl lotion in the morning to restyle and your hair won't be as drippy as it was when you stepped out of the shower.

I know I wrote a novel but I hope that helps. :)
