The style depends on the person:

GHETTO:
Ponytail with the weave hair (matching color)
Ponytail with the fake hair (crazy strange color)
Hair just out and nappy
Braids of all types
twists of all types

PROFESSIONALS
Mostly straight down wraps
Some flips
Pony tail attachments
WIGS - this has become the thing

You already know some fool walked into the salon Saturday talking about "Girl, you know I gotta get one of those helicopters in my head!"

This is funny because here in NYC it is seen as Ghetto to wear the phony tails but the sewn in weave ponytail (in matching color of course) isn't seen as ghetto.

Where you make a circular track wherever you want your ponytail. Then sew weave hair onto the track, then mold the rest of the hair around it. You can wrap hair around the base to hide the "thick". It lasts like 2-4 weeks but it can pull your hair off where you put it in.

Baltimore is a trip! It's like "Wild Kingdom" over there! From the outrageously unbeweavable hairstyles to the clothes. I don't know who or what is responsible for some of those styles. But they need to be stopped!

This is a 27 Step Ponytail Weave (I think...) I don't know where they got the word "ponytail" from. This site calls it 27 Piece Human Weaving Hair. It's always on sale for $7.99 at my bss. They come in different colors. Usually wild colors like burgundy and bright red. I've never seen anyone with a plain black or brown one.

That's a pretty weave but, for most or fast hair growers, a weave requires just as much work as your natural hair.

I am 4b and my hair grows quick (not necessarily long). In the coarse of a month, the weave in the back of my hair would lock with my actual hair. Whenever I would take weave out of the back, the back would always be broken off.

Here in Ontario Canada on campus I see,
relaxed damaged hair
cute natural styles
a few with healthy relaxed hair
(I am very bad at telling what is a weave)

I agree with Katie, weaves galore. Most of them are good ones though. It's really hard to know who's hair is a weave and who's is real hair. It kinda makes have naturally long hair less unique cuz everybody prolly assumes it's a weave.

I've never seen that hairstyle. That is not cute.

Now that I'm back home I am seeing way more natural styles.About half of the black ladies here are natural and their hair looks really good.
Lots of healthy looking, long relaxed hair too.It seems like there are tons of relaxed ladies who are brastrap and beyond.
I don't know how I never noticed this stuff before.Oh right...almost forgot...I wasn't obsessed with hair then.

As a twist on some of the other recent topics: What are some of the popular hairstyles and trends in your city or region of the country? I'm in the midwest and see a lot of people with various shades of brown, red, and blonde highlights and color, a lot of people with braids and natural styles.

I live in Louisville, KY (eastern region).
I see all types of hair colors and there aren't many naturals. I see a lot of dreadlocks and braid extensions and weaves. I also see a lot of Halle Berry cuts and flip up styles. There are many who wear ponytails or rollersets and curly coifs(small tight spirals) styles.

In Michigan, you'll see a little of everything.
Micro braids are extremely popular. Almost half the women I work with sport those. When they take them out, the also tend to sport badly damaged relaxed hair.

I've seen a few texturized ladies but it's not very common.
Phonytails from believable to hideous are common.
The instant weave/fall is popular.
I don't tend to see very many women with naturally long (bra strap length or longer) hair. The few that I do see, tend to have 2-3 type hair.
Natural styles aren't that common. You see a few but not many.
Overall braids and various types of weaves (sew in, clue in

phonytails (sew in & do it yourself) are seen most often. Second to those are relaxed sisters with short to medium length hair.

I'm in Columbus OH and the style at the moment is a high weave ponytail on the side of the head with a little quick weave toupee thing on the top.

Where I just left (graduated from school) ---> Montgomery, Alabama = Very few naturals (though I started to see a few more before I left), long weaves are VERY popular. Braids and two strand twist extensions are popular too. Locs on men are really popular, along with big ol' afro puffs. I see a LOT of folx with thin, damaged, relaxed hair. I see a lot of folx with big full, beautiful, healthy "out and nappy" 'fros too.

Back home (for the moment) ---> Seattle, Washington = very few naturals as well. Many women wear their hair relaxed at about shoulder length. Usually just curled under at the ends. Decent amount of fullness. No extreme hair color or anything like that.

Well, unfortunately, there is not much of a sense of style with respect to hair or clothes in my area.

I tend to believe that the further away one is from a metropolitan area, anything goes, really. The influences of style are simply not as strong the greater the distance.

I see lot of braids. I also see alot of the pretty hair styles that were ruined because they were lacquered down with several coats of hair spray, creating the "helmet" effect. And the scent fromt these hair styles rival the toxic fumes from oven cleaner.

I did hear that a lot of Cali women wear their hair pressed, while southern women still do the relaxers. Because of the extreme humidity we have here, maintaining a straight style by strictly pressing is next to impossible.

aWelll when I was in detrito it was braid braid and more braids, no one wore their real hair because most didn't have any. In the Atl there are all kinds of styles for girls, but the afro seem to be poular down here for guys, I guess they trin' to copy ludacris.

In L.A, it's long, straight weaves. Lots of color, highlights, etc..

Also a lot of natural styles, twist, dreads, or simple curls...

in richmond, i'm seeing more and more twists (with extensions) and twa's. weaves and braids in colors found nowhere in nature are always popular. among the professional set, wraps and wigs.
