I agree with this. I'm not in a sorority or anything but I do see where the people who were saying it's extra are kind of coming from by calling this a sorority. But at the same time, I don't think it's that big a deal because how many things have names that don't apply to the object/organization/person/etc or something else creative? Not everything is going to fit in a box. And words mean different things to different people.![]()
I think it's a stupid idea. Why are people making such a big fooling deal about natural hair? I mean yes women are growing their own hair out of their heads and leaving it unaltered finally, but people have been doing that for THOUSANDS of years before Madame CJ Walker and perms. you got natural God-given hair? So what?! No need to form exclusive groups. We are the only race that does this.
Just a few questions...
Do you become a "life member" after a certain period of natural-ness?
Are men who have locs/braids allowed to join...or are they "sweethearts"
Will national headquarters revoke your membership if you relax or long term transition?
What will their call/hand sign be?
In all seriousness... **** it...I can't take this seriously. Those of us who are Greek AND know the foundation of our organizations can identify the nonsense in the use of the term sorority. Heck...even some non-Greeks can see the foolishness.
Most sororities/ fraternities are based on core values. Despite what people see in movies/tv... there is a purpose beyond friendship, parties, and physical appearance. For that reason...I think that them using the term "sorority" is a joke. Not offensive at all...just comical![]()

Nope. The concept is just another reason for people to exclude others because of vanity reasons. We have enough issues already between the natural hair community![]()

That's the very definition of a sorority. I went to an HBCU and the "Divine 9" were the absolute most divisive organizations on campus. So... nothing new here to see!
