^^^ITA with the tiffal1922. My belief system is not intertwined with my hair style choices. How does this benefit anyone really? As a resource guide for someone contemplating going natural I could see the benefit yet there are already numerous sources of information available already for that. I just don't see the purpose.....

This is interesting. When I first saw this mention on twitter I was like :look:. I am transitioning so I don't think I would be able to join because I am not natural :ohwell:. I am good. I get all my info about Natural hair from hair forums, blogs, and youtube.

Yeah, no. It seems a little extra to me. Why can't you develop a natural hair education and outreach program without it being a sorority. So men are excluded? What's the criteria for membership? What are your aims? How are they better served by having "sorority" status? Seems unnecessary to me.

I think the general idea is that it's just another hair board but exclusively for naturals. It reminds me of when I was like 8 yo and me and my friends made exclusive clubs, no boys allowed (no relaxed heads allowed), lol. I think that the title of it should be changed though because a sorority consists of a unity, sisterhood, and other things that can't really represented by the fact that all the members have one trait in common. It can't be seriously taken as an equal to real sororities IMO. But I think if it's just talking about hair like all the other hair boards, the concept itself isn't crazy.

Oh I see, I couldn't see the link so thank you for clarifying...so what would keep a relaxed person from joining? I'm so confused...

let the girl have her dang sorority. if people are joining then clearly others are interested so whats the problem.
people are already doing natural hair meet and greets. i would like to think that this sorority would be groups around the world coming together to make a difference in the hair care industry. may not be important for some but clearly its important for others. i would also like to think that as this "project" grows they would star t focusing on not just natural hair care but a natural way of life: eating healthy and organic food, using natural and organics skin care ect....

and i think most are just focusing on the word "sorority" and thats what most people have a problem with??? if she just said natural hair group or something like that it probably wouldnt be "silly" or "unnecessary".

i like your post a lot. and that lank didn't tell me anything, so i don't know what folks are even seeing to comment on.:look:
off topic, but at the bolded, I always wonder why people think natural hair and a natural way of life go hand in hand. It lowkey annoys me, just a lil bit.

I'm sorry but how are people wrong with focusing on the word sorority when that's the word she picked for it? Yes, that is what most people are focusing on, because the word sorority has certain implications and I think most people know that, including her. If it's wrong to assume certain things about the group due to the word sorority then she should have called it something else. Hello, marketing 101?

No shade, but I'm saying...you can't call a kettle a pot and then be upset when people start using it like a pot...

Dddddaaammnn I think y'all being a little judgemental and making assumptions on what y'all THINK it maybe like. Nobody has actually said anything solid about this. No rules or foundation have been laid and y'all already crucifying this chick. Damn chill out!

I don't think people are judging. I think the step show comments and such are just jokes...definitely no crucifying. I can't speak for anyone else but I like Sunshine, her YT vids are awesome. I'm just saying the term is what is rubbing people the wrong way and I don't think it's surprising?

Maybe we as people are never satisfied... I remember thinking back in the day people should be more excited about natural hair... Now I see naturals with videos, boards, challenges and it all seems like the same stuff nothing new so it is kinda extra. I don't see why all people who want long or healthy hair can't just join lhcf or nc or bhm or kiss and we all work it together. That way its always different techniques and ideas from different people.

i didnt say people were wrong for focusing on the word(i said it seems like its the ONLY thing people seem to have a problem with). what i meant was that it seems thats the only thing people are focusing on seeing as how people seem against it already when nothing is even set in stone.
i dont see whats wrong with her calling it a sorority when it would be her group, she can call it whatever she wants.
also its in the idea stage, then itll be in the beginning stage, and then i would hope that it would grow to being about more than just natural hair. what else should she call it?

i agree with you. people think its unnecessary but whats unnecessary? you dont even know exactly what this sorority is all about because sunshine probably doesnt even know yet.

I agree with this. I'm not in a sorority or anything but I do see where the people who were saying it's extra are kind of coming from by calling this a sorority. But at the same time, I don't think it's that big a deal because how many things have names that don't apply to the object/organization/person/etc or something else creative? Not everything is going to fit in a box. And words mean different things to different people. :yep:

i purchased a "leave in hair conditioner" the other day and its a hair butter. its literally just shea butter and oils. should i be upset that shes calling it a leave in:lachen:
people are saying no to her already based off of a word and a word alone. i find that odd.
people probably think youtube videos for natural hair is to much, longhaircarefourm is too much. but look how many people its helping.

I think folks should research it a bit more. I have been keeping track of it on her website. She is working on getting founders now and hoping to get it fully running by September 2012. She had those interested complete a questionnaire and they are having conference calls so it is in its beginning stages. I'm all for it. Anything that will be addressing self esteem and saying it's okay to do you all day everyday without needing validation from others works for me. Do your own research rather than relying on the he said/she said and those that just like debate any and everything.

So I clicked on the link out of curosity. So the link is exactly what I have been following. She has a Part I, Part II, and a Part III. The questionnaire is on there too with everyone's responses. I believe they've had one conference call and plan to have more.

Well, the thread asked for our thoughts and that is what everyone is giving, their thoughts. My thoughts about joining a hair sorority are that of joining a relaxed sorority. If a relaxed person suggested such a thing, there would be a serious lynch mob up in this thread. People would probably be talking about Blacks with straight hair think their better than naturals and are being unfairly exclusive, yak yak yak.

Yea, that person can have her sorority. They can pledge for 8 weeks, cross the burning sands, show off their fros at their neophyte party, whatever will make them feel special. And I, can give my thoughts about this whenever I feel like typing.

My question is, what extra help can a natural get by joining a hair sorority versus belonging to a group, club, going to regional get togethers, Youtube, other naturals and/or hair boards?. You need a hair sorority to have a better looking wash & go?

There was a mass email sent to the members recently. I got it, but dismissed it since I'd recently relaxed. :look: But, yes, the intention is for it to be an official sorority, not just another name for the forum.

I wouldn't join, but I wouldn't knock anyone who would. There was once upon a time when I first discovered the hair boards that I couldn't believe women were on the Innanets talking about hair. And look at me now (Chris Brown voice). :lachen:
