Am I a 4a or 4b??

I'm not so great at this but I saw some pen spring coils in there and I think that means 4a. The 3rd picture in shows the most coils

I still say it looks like 4a OP. :yep:

I'm not all that great at hair typing, but my understanding is that 4b hair has no visible curl pattern. Plus your hair looks similar to mine, and I'm a 4a... at least that's what I've decided. My coils range in size from that of a pen spring to that of a drinking straw.

How big are your coils? That should give us a better clue. It's kinda hard to tell on pictures.

i thought 4b was just denser curls, not absent of curls period.
I think your hair looks lovely and I have no idea what type you are.
I know your definitely 4...sumthin lol

I would personally put you in the 3C category. But my understanding of the typing system is totally different from LHCF. Either way all that matter is that you have beautiful hair.

Doesn't every 4b's hair look like the 1st picture if you haven't detangled? Does it clump up into miniscule coils like that? That picture WAS manipulated with my fingers but I was re-defining the coils that were there already (I'm trying to make sense lol)

BlackMasterPiece I have seen your posts on silky 4a and coarse 4a, is there a silky 4b and a coarse 4b also?
lesedi Okay wow, now that I'm finally home and can see it full-screen I might have to ammend my intial conclusion. That is the first and last time I type someone through my iphone:lol:

You lean toward 4b but I think you're one of the rare inbetweenies. 4a/b is the perfect descriptor for you. We have very similar hair-types. You can take tips from 4a's and 4b's, which is what I did:yep:.

4a is pen spring sized coils. To me, you look to be either 4a or 4a-b mixed.

If in doubt, after your next wash and detangling session you could gut a pen and compare a few strands of clean, dry, shred hair to the spring. Voila!
