HI! :D Question. What impresses you?

I am definitely impressed IRL with healthy APL+ hair. Maybe I am a bit more critical online - maybe MBL+ (which is not to say I won't be posting a thread when I hit BSL - hopefully some people will stay away long enough to not sh** on me for it not being impressive enough)
I do enjoy thick, lush hair, but being a thin-haired lady myself, I know I and many others can't help not being born with it, so thickness is just sort of a bonus. Unless you fried, dyed, and laid it to the side and abused it within an inch of its life.

If we're just talking about length, then I'm impressed with bsl and longer. I read that some women have a hard time trying to reach bsl from apl. Therefore I find bsl to be the "trophy giving" length. That is also why bsl is my goal. Overall impression? I'm impressed with healthy hair, full stop. Solid ends, shine, looks moisturized, etc. As others have stated, chin length could be what someone wants.

Yeah, women with long color treated hair that is still healthy impress me especially if they are relaxed. That definitely goes back to the process and technique of properly handling your hair.

ITA!
I wasn't relaxed at the time (but def heat damaged) but I did a bleach and then a blonde bang, then covered it all with black, and then got blonde highlights put into the black all within maybe 18 months.
Needless to say, all that damage left me with an EL bob and tapered back. It was a gorgeous style (I may revisit it one day), but it definitely wasn't intentional.
Women who are color addicts like I was AND have fine and/or porous hair that have made it to long lengths also impress me.

I like healthy and aesthetically pleasing hair regardless of length. I don't see the point of MBL/WL hair if it doesn't look good to look at.

I also like to see stories of ladies who have come from short damaged hair to long healthy hair - that is very inspiring.

I'm impressed with people wearing styles that look good on them, that flatters them and makes them shine. No matter what length or style, I see random people and there's a confident walk and smile that a woman has when she is feeling good about herself and her hair. I just think "YOU GO GIRL" (martin lawerance voice), lol

I'm impressed by healthy hair at any length. However, when its healthy AND at least APL that really makes me turn my head. Hope to be there myself at year end. :yep: Never had hair that long in my life, I will be SUPER elated and will be posting pics, and won't care at all who is or is not impressed.

Trust me, I know how you feel and I'm impressed with myself that I got to BSL since I've never had hair this long in my life either so I don't really care who's looking at me like, "Ooh, she's impressed with THAT?! She ain't TBL!" :look:

hey boo!:grin: good question :yep::yep:... lotta haterade sippin:lachen:, j/k

i think i'm impressed most by thick hair! (probably b/c i don't have it:ohwell:)

but thick hair is #1... thick STYLED HAIR ( layers, shapes, no bland boring-iiiish:yawn:... again i don't have it :grin:)... and beautiful colors! I love hair with gorgeous low & highlights,

thick hair, healthy luscious looking hair, color done the right way! (singer Olivia usually has some nice color---makes #1 very hard tho')
I like long hair... but a bad arse hair cut trumps long broom stick hair anyday:yep::yep:
big hair !!!

Hey chica!

Yes, colour gets me every time, especially when it's healthy. I just can't help but stare and want that person's hair on my head. Pictures can be deceiving though. :giggle:

Oh and yes, there should be more updates featuring beautiful short haircuts with some snazzy layers added in with an interesting cut. Please no more half shaved sides though. :look: :lachen:

Personally I put my pictures in challenges and in my LHCF album because I'm always excited when I reach a new length but I would prefer to make a thread when I reach my goal or beyond for a more dramatic reveal. Do what you feel like though and don't think about who's not impressed, I'm just making this thread for fun. Anyway, I've seen some pretty bomb updates that feature ladies at APL or BSL so by all means, make that thread! :lick:

For me it wasn't HARD but it was frustrating because that's when the hair anorexia kicks in combined with not being sure if your hair is long or short. At APL/BSL, you get a lot of mixed reviews from people when they comment on your hair. You can get comments saying your hair is really long as well as comments that just hint that your hair is growing but is still short so it's all very confusing. :spinning:

Yes! In real life this is me! Online is just a different story LOL. LHCF has tainted me. :look:

Oh, girl, I know. I was talking about the people going hard in that other thread .

For me its progress, when I see naturals BC and thier progress months later and relaxed heads who do long stretches and get lush thickness and progress :spinning::drunk:

Truly inspiring!:yep:

I love to see healthy colored hair. Because I color my hair and I know how difficult retention can be, when I see a long-haired (APL and beyond), healthy, color-treated, head of hair, I am in :love2: :love3:

However, I am also impressed with someone who has started one place NL and through time and healthy hair practices has grown their hair to even SL and are healthy...

I am impressed with length as well, but health comes along with that...so, the expectation is that in order for me to feel some kind of way about your WL hair, it has got to be healthy- otherwise, I'm turned off...

ETA: Oh, and I don't care if you are natural or relaxed because we all have struggles for maintaining a healthy head of hair...

I'm impressed by healthy hair that Is between full waist length and tailbone. If it's a u shape it gets extra points. While healthy short hair looks nice, it does not impress me. My own hair does not even impress me :ohwell:

i'm impressed with transformation, or shrinkage/unstretched. there are folks on here with tail bone hair that just don't do it for me because i felt that was achievable for them in the first place, but i don't knock anyone's progress. it brings me joy to see someone reaching their hair goals. it takes a lot of hard work in keeping it simple and staying away from things that could cause setbacks. a lot of us had to re-educate ourselves about healthy hair practices and not rely on the tried and true of what we think used to work.

Sorry to side track the tread but how often do you color your hair?

Your hair color really suits you! :yep:

Well, thank you hon!!! I colored my hair last July- as you can see in my avi it is growing out, lol. Because I am working on retention, I will not do another major color this year...

I am impressed by all hair. I hate the term "good hair" because if you can grow hair then it's good hair in my opinion. I also am not a big fan of the hair typing system. If you're natural then you're natural. Regardless if you and I have "similar textures", it's BIOLOGICALLY proven that no two people have the same hair type. So to me its pointless.

I see the gabby thread hit a nerve. If I went by the standard here I could deduce that my hair must not be impressive to most on here. I have never had a thread to surpass 3 pages when I do updates. I know my hair looks nice and that is important to me. I have always had long hair my whole life (bsl) or longer so, to see women be consistent in their regimens and achieving their goals are impressive to me.

I am impressed by my hair and my hair only. jk

Seriously, healthy hair at any length impresses me. I love thick healthy hair...relaxed or natural.

I am impressed with a great hair cut, blunt or V-shape. It is more appeasing to the eyes for whatever length it maybe. It irks me my hair is not like that. I can't wait to past my goal so I will trim for evenness. Hence I am also impressed when I see someone with long hair especially an AA woman around APL and longer.

prettynatural , just checked out your threads. Now that is impressive your growth and retention rate. You gone from APL to BSB in 7 months! Awesome. How did I miss that thread!

So adding to what impresses me is some people growth and retention rate, give me some of that! My mother can cut her hair to shoulder length and you will be right back to APL in no time, but she doesn't take care of her hair, even how much I bug her. She doesn't want to take hours on her hair. What a shame.

i was gonna say that! IRL i'm usually impressed by APL+ as long as it's healthy, because its rare to see BW IRL w/ healthy hair past SL... i hold LHCF to a higher standard, and usually i'm impressed by healthy BSB-MBL+ ...for my own hair i won't be impressed until it's at least BSB...just because i think someone's hair is nice, it doesn't mean i'm impressed by it, & just because i'm not impressed doesn't mean i don't think it's nice....i appreciate all healthy hair, even TWAs or short relaxed cuts but that doesn't necessarily mean i find it impressive.

the thickness and ends is a deal breaker....u can see someone with thin scraggly APL and think "eh...".......but if you see someone with thick APL hair you think "wow....her hair is NICE!"

A healthy head no matter length.

Length is not as impressive as health. And the ends and hemline matter to me. Not so much hemline shape but whether the ends are uniform and healthy. Long, thick, healthy hair like Domin's is STUNNING but, so is a fly, fresh, short cut. Raggedy, thin ends, at any length should be cut. Lead hairs, shmead hairs. If you leave 'em, put 'em away until the hemline fills in (assuming it will). I'm more impressed with a sista that cuts her hair shorter to have a banging hemline than toe-length hair with scraggley ends... Since ya asked.

I think some ppl are giving politically correct answers :look: we're on LONG hair care forum  With that being said I'm impressed by long hair both in real life and online. Anyone can go to a salon and get a short cut that looks healthy. It takes way more effort to grow your hair and keep it healthy so I'm more impressed by that.

Oh yeah, and I'm also very impressed by people who have struggled in the past/have had a hard time growing their hair such as fine haired ladies, esp fine haired type fours (which I *think* is probably the most fragile and hardest to get good retention).

If someone has super thick hair, highly resilient hair that they can fry and dye and still retain no matter what, yeah, I'll admire it like oh that's nice, but I'm not impressed. I'm more impressed by people who had to put in some serious effort to get to their length.

Well, I know I'm not being PC. I really do like to see healthy hair-shine, body, bounce, thick ends at any length. :ohwell:

I agree. I'm more impressed by someone who started at neck length then got to APL. As opposed to someone who had APL hair effortlessly their whole life.
