I wouldn't mind going by inches measured from the hairline.

This is definitely the most accurate way. You can be short with a long neck or torso, or tall with a short neck and high waist. Actually, there was a thread that asked how many inches from your nape to bsl or wl or something like that, and there was remarkably little variance by people by height. Seemed in that limited thread the biggest difference was just 2".

WL on me will be about 30 or 31 inches from my front hairline and I'm 5'2".

Hi, i'm 5'1 and have been WL since late summer 09. last time i checked (like in september 09) my hair was around 18 inches.:yep:

I'm 5'7 I haven't straightened in 8 months but I'm about 2-3 inches away from WL when I pull it....shoot I forgot my measurements but my torso was the same length as Traycee's. Yup I'm all legs so I def can't go for knee length lol Maybe I'll go find her post.

And if we measure our hair in inches, I'd never be able to update because I don't have a tape measure :-( ....maybe my bf has one of those man-tape measure thingies...

I'm 5'8 and waist length.....last time i measured i have 27.5 inches of hair which is WL and a half an inch for me.....Hip Length for me is 32 inches.

I'm 5'8" and wish i was even taller:grin:.

ETA....I think we should go back to measuring our hair in inches. I remember when i first joined that's all everyone did. Most everyone had their hair inches in their siggy. Anyone else remember that?

My daughter is 5'3 and 10 years old. She's hoping to be over 6'.

I remember that.:yep:

I'm 5'7.

I'd just hate to see us start dividing ourselves (more) - we've already got natural vs. relaxed sensitives running rampant, this would be just another log to add to the marcel oven.

:lachen::lachen::lachen:For some reason I pictured ladies surronding a giant marcel oven shoving in various pieces of wood, each one hollering about how her's was the best way build up the heat. Yes, my sense of humor can be juvenile from time to time.

I agree. We're about the same height.

I had no idea how to measure my hair until today. As mentioned, you just measure from the front of the hairline back. Here are some websites with visuals: here and here. For me waist length is about 29-30 inches. Right now my hair is about pants pockets length and that is about 36-37 inches on me. My goal is to be classic length which is about 41-42 inches.

I was just reading a "How Many Inches Is Waist Length" thread over at the Long Hair Community and it seems as if waist length is somewhere around 30 inches for most people give or take a couple of inches. It is interesting reading how someone 5'1" and someone 5'7" both are 29 inches at waist length, lol!

Classic length (where the thigh meets the butt) seems to be around 40-44 inches for most people too. Those that are very short (less than 5'0) or very tall (6'0 or greater) seem to deviate more from these values. In one thread, a lady said that she was 6'6 and waist length was 41 inches for her.

Read this thread: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=1429 <----waist length is somewhere around 30 inches (give or take a few inches) for most people regardless of height.

YUP!! (so I guess Im more normal than I thought)

I love this thread!
I am nowhere near WL, but when I measured using that method from the hairline, WL is 29" on me! And I think I'm one of the shortest members here at 4'10" so it really goes to show you that height really doesn't seem to matter much at all.
SN: I measure from my nape normally, which is how I found out I need 19" for my longest layer to hit HL. Why do people measure at the hairline as opposed to the nape? Just wondering.

i'm 5'5, i used to know my measurements but have since forgotten lol i may measure later on today since my hair is still straight.

my only confusion with measuring from the hair line is that not everyones hair line starts in the same place, so wouldnt that still be just as iffy as going off of body markers?

Not officially calling myself WL yet but, I'm 5'8 and I think wl is 29" on me.

I'm 5'3" and I started my HHJ in the fall of 2007 with neck length hair. I reached WL in the fall so it took 3 years.

so... maybe I just can't find it...

ANYONE 6' FT AND WAIST DEEP IN HAIR ALREADY?????

:look: :look: Anyone? Anyone? :look: :look:

Well, I'm 5'7" 1/2...Other than Optimus Prime, it appears that the WL club is occupied by shorties! (No offense ladies :bighug:)

I am 5'8" and almost WL. WL on me would start around 29" but fully around 30 inches. (Measured from front hairline.) As of today I don't know my measurements...I stopped a couple of months ago. I 'll check things out sometime in late Jan or Feb sometime.

I don't understand why someone would measure their hair that way when that strand from the forehead to the back is not all that one length? unless you been cutting your hair to make it all one length and not layers.. it would seem to me that you would measure the strand of your hair to get the correct inches of your hair just like you would fabric. I take strands of my hair and different parts of my head and this is how I know that all of my hair is the same number in inches which is 8". and if I take a strand from the back of my head and measure down 30" it is to my hip.
