Hey there SL ladies, I've been searching the site for some insight to the whole protective style thing.

I'm just wondering. . .How do you bun without looking/feeling like a dude or bald headed??

I hear bunning is a great protective style and I would love to try but I hate like looking like I don't have any hair. I love my hair down but it hasn't grown in 2 years so I'm slightly desperate for something but I'm not jumping on any bandwagons/challenges or taking any supplements ((I'm never consistent enough for that)) lol

Also off topic: what's a good moisturizing product mainly like conditioner cuz I hate oily looking hair. . :nono:

Thankies for your replies and reading for the lurkers. lol I <3 you chicas:grin:

Well, Im not sl but i'm nosy.

However, WHEN i WAS sl, lol, i bunned. I hate wearing my hair back, but I really wanted growth, so I played up my makeup and earrings...hair accessories, etc.

Anything to make you feel more feminine.

And as a good moisturizing product thats mainly like conditioner.. :look: ... use conditioner! I do! V05, Aussie Moist, suave...these are fine as leave ins. Just make sure to seal in the moisture with oil!

Love you too babe! lol

I like to put flowers on my buns to make them cuter, and I switch the position, the side and the back. You could also swoop ur hair in the front to make it more feminine n i agree with the earlier comment on conditioner as moisturizer. I also use my own whipped shea butter, it has mango butter, shea butter, aloe vera gel, rice bran oil, and olive oil, it moisturizers and seals

LMBO stop the madness!!!
I decided to be the bigger person and treat it like it was.
*in baby tone*
she's jus a new poster....
i think. She has not been schooled on the font appropriateness.

LOL. This has gone to far. I want to laugh but I don't know who is joking and who is being dead serious. I can't even see the op!:lachen:This is all too hilarious but I'm getting confused.

:ill:

ETA: Thanks glamourprincess! I was gonna lose the little bit of eye sight I had left trying to read a pastel pink op.

Thanks..I read in somewhere that you aren't suppose to use regular conditioner as a leave in. Something about it causing more breakage. I guess its time to stack up on hair accessories.

lol I think I need to invest in rosemary or peppermint oil cuz evoo stinks. my opinion. lol

Lawd...Is this a real thread?

I can't tell what is what around here anymore!

lol my bad my firefox has personal settings so I didn't see the super light text. BTW I am a newbie but playa's f*** up. lol j/k but its a serious question.

I baggy my little pathetic ponytail using one of the Mizani moisturizers. Then I put my baggied ponytail under a phony bun. I retained some incredible length this year using this method.

I'm pretty sure as long as they dont have the sulfates they're good. A lot of women on the board use V05, Suave, and Aussie as leave ins...I'm not sure about other ones tho...I'm no LHCF scientist. Where's nonie?

Do you cowash?

yeah I co-wash every week or every two weeks. I'm using tresemme anti-breakage and volumizing now but I think my hair doesn't like it cuz I'm still seeing breakage. I also use the ORS replenishing conditioner sometimes.

EVOO is a carrier oil and rosemary and peppermint are essentials oils. They do not have the same purpose. I would try to find you a link, but I'm falling asleep as I type this. I'm sure someone with more experience will clarify this for you. Also, try using the search function to search for "carrier oils" and "essential oils" as there is a lot of information available. :yep:

:welcome: HHJ

Thanks for fixing it. I thought you were pulling yet another "prank" on us. No biggie.

I didn't see if you were relaxed or natural...I would start start out by trying out Giovanni direct leave-in as a moisturizer/leave-in and sealing with an oil. It's not my absolute favorite but it's still great and cheap and easily accessible.

As for your bunning...I think a bun at the crown is feminine enough. But you can also try the phony pony as a protective style.

I really don't want to say "do a search"...but it really is your best bet, since there are hundreds of different moisturizers and protective styles to choose from.

I'll try to post some links for you.

ETA: Here's a great thread to start with.

There is sooo much in the archives about bunning, but there is a bunning challenge going on right now that you may be interested in.

Yes, One of my most reliable leave in is diluted V05 Moisture Milks.

@bolded-:lachen:This is exactly what I was thinking when I was responding to the op. I'm like--> :look:...where Nonie at!

I do a pompadour or bangs for a quick and easy way to add some glam to buns.

If it's a bun with my twisted hair, I pull out one twist from near my ear and let it hang

I dont know how thick your hair is, but some ladies add some extra hair or use a phony pony and baggy to keep the hair moisturized

Some of the stuff that treat me well are
--Herbal essences long term relationship
--Organix olive oil / coconut conditioner

hth

I am SL and even before I made SL, I would wear my twb, I did earings and make up like Natural Beauty 3, and sometimes wear some type of a side part to keep it cute. To moisturize when I wear a bun I use a rosewater glycerin mix that I make myself and seal with castor oil or coconut oil, and now mainly shea butter. It works great and my hair feels great and I am getting a lot less knots.

you can always use a phony pony bun or bulk hair to make it bigger. The southern tease bun seems to be good for shorter lengths as well. Also if your hair can handle it, a nice donut bun can help as well. If all else fails I would do nice parting and hair toys to spice it up.

When I get tired of a basic bun I do a large flat twist in the front down my hair line and let it hang, or I'll pull the end back and clip it by the bun. Sometimes I'll do several medium sized twists in the front and pull those back toward to the bun.

Using pretty clips helps too.

I saw a tutorial on youtube for using tracks to make a bun. Definitely going to look into that. Southern tease?:perplexed I definitely need to look that up. lol but thank for the advice

thankx so much for the links TONS of help. YOUR AWESOME :spinning:

Hi glamourprincess. I'm SL and bun almost everyday. I secure a weave weft around my own pony with hair pins. I then bun. You can also do a sock bun with SL hair. As for using conditioners as your leave in, I've been doing that since I started my HHJ in June and it has worked out great for me.

I'm a little past SL and I bun everyday. I make a side part. I also noticed that making a braid and tucking it under my ponytail holder makes a larger bun. Braiding my buns has also helped me cut down on tangles and SSKs.

I love stretchy combs. They really jazz up updos. They are ressentially "hairzings" or "EZ comb" type combs. Here are a few I own:
