I think it's only really important when you're trying to get over that shoulder length hump. Once you get past there, the hair isn't rubbing back and forth on top of the shoulders as much, it starts to lay flat. So you should be okay after that. But I agree with the other ladies who say you'll have to step up keeping your ends moisturized.
i just realized last week that i can keep a tight french braid in for the whole week! less manipulation is the key. i should have been doing this the entire summer! my head has had itchies ever since. at nite i just smooth the edges down and spritz my head with my water and amla oil and tie it up.
