I'm having fun scanning old pictures and I found some old ones from High School and my elementary years. I was natural through high school and caught hell for it. Everyone thought I was sporting a jheri curl way after they were not the business. So for fun, I'm sharing a few pics:

^^^^ you had a ton of hair! mine just grew out and shrunk up. Never saw length until I was older and mom let me straighten with heat.
 
Well your mom sure was kool - love the shoes - okay the whole outfit that ties in nicely with the chic fro.
 
Natural hair is always in style. It just took people a long time to catch up!

aawww, i wish i had a scanner so i could play!!!! your baby pix are too cute. and the 80's pix brings back fond memories lol though i was too young to participate in the styles back then i remember them well and remember wishing i could do those style too lmao

It's only recently that I get love. It was cool as a youngster but around high school, the curl was played out and everyone was wearing bi-levels (think salt and pepper), freeze curls, and very sophisticated styles with tons of spray that required straight hair. Here was me with BIG hair if I didn't slick it back. :nono:

I remember trying to relax (and was more like an underprocessed texalax because my mom didn't know what she was doing). I thought I'd be able to do the straight styles, I could never get it to look right and it was always frizzy or curly at the end of the day.

Mid-80s was good though. I was so happy when Lisa Bonet, the other kids from the Cosby Show and Different World started showing curly/natural big hair styles.

Honestly, it's only recently that I ever had a straight style and I only do it like 3-4x a year.

Isn't it funny how what goes around comes around. I wish she saved some of her funky clothes. When I get a chance, I'll scan some more of her pics from the day. She was the original Angela Davis.
 
first off your mom is fly. I can see why they thought you had a jheri curl, your hair is so shiny and moisturized

The funny thing was that I didn't use much stuff on it. I think my hair naturally reflects light. It doesn't look that shiny in real life. I used to have guys come up and feel my hair and they'd be surprised that it didn't feel greasy.

:grin:TaraDyan - girl I was in LOVE!!! Despite the evidence, it was all so innocent (he was really my first boyfriend). We were both seniors and thought we were gonna get married. We stayed together through college but grew apart due to long distance. I still have pitterpatter thoughts about that beautiful and sweet man. I cut him out for privacy reasons but lemme just say, we would have had some purty babies! :lachen:
