i did my own hair i didnt really do anything to it but its at a stand still and has been for the past 2 yrs

what is your current regimen? it's hard to tell your hair type from the pictures, but based on the look of your hair I will guess that you're probably a type 3 or 2 so you might want to look at regimens of people with those hair types to learn what they do and what idiosyncrasies that your hair might have

Welcome!! Your hair IS and was pretty. I think Nakia says it best perserverance...and finding a good regime. Much help is available here. Enjoy!!

well was/is your hair relaxed or natural-- I mean both then and now? Why did you cut it? Was it breaking or did u do it for just the style? Oh yeah, there is a thread already that explains the acronyms. It is in the very first 10 "sticky" threads at the top of the "hair care tips forum". It never really helped me though b/c some of the main acronyms aren't in there. You have to be around for a while to catch on-- and try to pick up the context of what someone is saying. That will fill in the blank for u.

it's fine, just think really hard. you HAD to do something, whether it was washing it and wearing it in braids or whatever. were you relaxed or natural? did you moisturize? did you get it done in the shop or by your mom or anything? did you wrap it at night?

well the before was natural no relaxer and the i started relaxing the perimeter of my hair which soon fell out and never restored its natural length but now for this recent cut ive gotten a relaxer but its growing out but needless to say i let a dude put a relaxer im my hair and he went so slow my hair was extensively damaged as an end result. he left the relaxer on my hair for 1hr and 20 mins

i dont know the acronyms well so i dont know my hair type or the blog lingo

lol. my bad. loosely speaking, type 1= straight hair. type 2 = wavy hair. type 3 = curly hair. type 4 = mostly frizzy (usually doesn't have curls, but if it does have curls when it's wet, they disappear and frizz up once the hair dries)

Why did you let him leave the relaxer for so long?

Maybe back then you didn't really manipulate your hair that much allowing your hair to grow. First thing it's better to have a simple regimen that you can follow then try to find the products that will go along w/ your regimen. If your regimen is not good no matter what kind of product will help your hair to grow.

Ok, this is one of the most shocking things I've ever read on here....wow :perplexed. Okay....so, what are your hair goals? Do you want to return to natural hair? If so, you may want to check out the "transitioning" threads. Your natural hair was lovely, and it seems like your hair doesn't take to chemicals, since it broke off even when you were just relaxing the perimeter. You can slowly trim off the damaged hair, while deep conditioning and moisturizing like crazy.

You should try to eliminate or reduce the amount of heat you use (blow-drying & flat-ironing). Does your hair respond well to braids? Maybe you can wear braids as a protective style while you research what will work best for you. Good luck, and welcome to the boards.

There are hundreds of "fotki" albums (see the links in people's signatures) that can serve as inspiration.

I am still not past the 1.5 hour relaxer to even give advice...that is just unheard of.....I would have had my own head in the shampoo bowl, sink, garden hose ...wherever there was running water...How awful

My best advice is just to experiment with the products you're interested in and stick with what works best for you. That's what I had to do. Before you try a product it's always good to get reviews, but I had to find out the hard way that just because a product is big and raved about doesn't mean that it will work for me. And unless they contain growth aides, products don't really grow your hair anyway. And even if they did, the growth doesn't mean as much as retention does. Good products only ensure the health of your hair and make retention easier, but in my opinion, it doesn't really matter what product name you use. Most of the time stuff in my refrigerator and pantry works better than most products on the market :giggle:. I think whatever you were doing before was working well for you.

Looks like you have a relaxer and a color? I'd quit dying your hair and would start moisturizing every day as well as protein treatments every so often. Don't ever go back to that guy. In fact all him and tell him about his error. Relaxers should never exceed 15 minutes on your head, if that. If you never did anything before, you probably don't realize that now you need protein and moisture to get/ keep your hair healthy. There's no way around it (as I've learned).

Man I was isck after this disater I allowed it because my whole hear wasn't finished and I didn't want half straight half kinky curl . I want my hair back sooooooooo bad I just don't know what to do my goal is to have. Wl hair again.
My hair decription.... its extremely kinky wavy. My hair grows fast untill it gets a lil past my shoulders then its a wrap slow growth.... I'm tired of having short hair its so much harder for me to keep up with which results in me constantly flatironing it causing extreme damage and on top of the hr 20 min reelaxer her low key f'd up my hair cut so I just am fed up
I need a lot of help

I appreciate all the help I'm getting I'm just lost for regimens I don't even know where to start

Thanks for all the help guys u give me that motivatin I need to go through with this difficult time for me.
I can't keep braids in my hair it breaks off from lint and the heavyness of the braiding hair. When I did get braids my hair is super heavy and gives me neck and back problems trying to hold up the extra weight

you're going to have to take it a step at a time.

*first, i seriously doubt you have a growth issue if you're saying it "grows fast till it gets past your shoulders" -- that signals a retention issue. are you wearing your hair down a lot? that is common on here....people not retaining that length because their hair is brushing against their shoulders/back and breaking off.
*how often are you relaxing/coloring, and do you relax root to tip? although i am no longer relaxed, i have definitely noticed that most women see their hair flourish when they go a minimum of 8 weeks between relaxers. there are threads on self-relaxing if you want to go that route and prevent that horrible experience from happening again. *are you relaxing bone straight? (do i even have to ask, after your story?) you may want to try texlaxing, or not leaving the relaxer on as long -- this way, the bonds in your hair are broken down enough to allow your hair to straighten easily, but it is not made as weak.
*how often are you flat ironing? you have to realize your hair is already fragile from the chemicals, so heat is not your friend right now. you may wanna try no-heat styles (as a bonus, you won't have to worry about your hair reverting in the summer heat) or rollersets to straighten instead.

i think you are looking for us to give you the answers, which isn't really something we can do -- not because we don't want to, but because every head of hair is unique. i tried about 5 different regimens that i found on here (i am natural, so i looked at the regimens/favorite products of WL natural women) before i found what works for me, and you will have to do the same. just read random threads, do searches on exactly what you want, and put something together. my advice is stick with a regimen for about 4 weeks to see if you notice ANY kind of difference before moving on to something else.

as far as regimen building, it's not that hard -- you will need products to cleanse and moisturize with; and since you are relaxed you will also need something to strengthen your hair. since you say your hair is breaking, you will probably want to stick to low manipulation, which means not combing/brushing/flat ironing every day. ideally, your regimen will go something like this for a while:

*wash with a gentle shampoo to CLEANSE
*deep condition with a light protein conditioner to STRENGTHEN
*deep condition with a super moisturizing conditioner to MOISTURIZE
*add a leave-in
*seal with an oil or butter to lock in the moisture
*air dry or rollerset
*style in a protective style (buns, updos, etc) to protect your fragile ends from the elements

all you need to do is fill in the blanks with the products of your choice. you may find that you already own products that can be used to do these; then again, you may have to buy some more to bolster your hair arsenal. whatever you do, stay focused, and don't be discouraged if you don't see growth automatically -- once your hair is healthy, the length will follow. there are plenty of relaxed women here for inspiration -- take your pick and research! What about cornrows with a clip on pony

If your hair was flourishing before without relaxers, it may be best that you stop relaxing your hair altogether and go back to being natural. I think sometimes relaxer doesn't always agree with everyone's hair and can have an adverse effect on it.

I'd say transition and go back to natural.
The ladies who already have chimed have given you great advice.
No matter what you decide to do, patience is the main ingredient.

Thank u thank u thank u!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
