Or type 4 in our language. My sisters are really getting on my nerves. They tell me that I have the lightest skin and that I have the least afro hair when my little sister is lighter and has 3b hair:wallbash:. I don't know whether they are just purposely trying to upset me or if they are just that dumb so tell it to me straight...am I delusional or is this not type 4 hair?

It looks to me combed out and manipulated so it would be hard to type your hair imo but your sisters are probably set in their beliefs so us telling you that you have "afro hair" probably will not change their minds.

Looks like it to me.
Are you transitioning? Are you gonna cut off those straight ends? It may shrink more if you do decide to snip them. IMO.

I'm going to agree with them and say that may not be type 4 hair. It's looks combed out so it's hard to really tell. Maybe try a wet pic?

Okay I am going to come in here big sis style OKAY?

I am not sure why they are upsetting you over the type of your hair. Based on your picture you may have a mixture of textures which most people do.

The way to really tell is how does it responds and curls up when you put conditioner, or some type of product in it to make it curl.

It looks like you still have some straight ends and I know that does weigh down the actual texture of your hair.

But does it matter what your sisters think about the textures?! I am not sure why it is upsetting you because they don't believe you are a 4.

It is beautiful, healthy, thick and you have a lot of it. :yep:

Your hair looks like a 3b/c, because your curls are so large. It does look like it needs another technique to give it some shine and definition though.

That doesn't mean it's not Afro hair, most black people have type 3 or 4 hair. :)

Don't let your sisters get to you, they're just teasing you...

My hair can't be type 3...my hair isn't silky like type 3...it is rough...
It upsets me because my older sister has always ridiculed me over the way I look. She has always told me I look white. People always tell me that I look like my mum and she is black african...I just don't get what her problem is.
This was kind of a spur of the moment post because I was so angry/upset...

Its def afro textured hair. From that pic it doesn't look like any type 4 hair. You can be type 3 and still have dry, rough feeling hair, it doesn't mean it has to be silky. Why does it really matter in the scheme of things though?

you said your hair is "rough" I mean how are you taking care of it? There are cottony type 3 hair just like there is silky type 4 hair.

I almost wanna say who cares? Who cares what they have to say? But I don't want to act like your feelings don't matter. Siblings can be tough to deal with, trust me I know. You have to let things roll off though. So what if you are light? So what if you do look white? You have to think to yourself...so what? You can't help the way you look. Things you can't control you have to let roll.

Please don't let a hair type determine your 'blackness' It's not that serious. You are what you are. Don't let them bring you down.

maybe your sister is jealous of who you are and is just trying to get under your skin. Come to the place where you love yourself no matter what she or anybody says. God made you that way and he LOVES THE WAY YOU LOOK. Seems to me he is really the only one of much importance. Your hair it is hard to tell let us see what it looks like wet to see how it shrinks. then we will be able to tell. Right now it looks like it can be 4a soft like mine but I am not sure.

This seems to be more about your sister than about your hair. Don't let her get to you.

Hair can be silky or course regardless of curl size.

Your hair reminds me a lot of my own hair. :yep:

What products do you use and how do you use them?

Your hair looks like mine when i comb out a wash n go (which is almost never)
I think you're probably 3c/4a.

Now, my hair is really coarse too, and that's why I thought I was a 4a. But it really goes by the size of your curls, not the texture or feel of your hair.

That said.....this is all a guess...because I dont know what it looks like when wet or with condish or anything in it. I'd love to see that so we could better determine.

BUT....

As for your sisters, they're just teasing you, probably to get a rise outta you.

You DEFINITELY have "AFRO" hair and you know it when you look at it, so don't let them get to you.

So there is some underlying stuff going on here. I promise you you probably have a mixture with the strong posibility of most of it being in the 3c 4ish family.

The mindset here is really not about your texture but how your sister is ALWAYS ridiculing you over the way you look.

We could get into a huge discussion here about race and the different shades and hues of being black, but I am sure you have seen these topics all over this board.

I can only give LIMITED advice because I don't know your whole story, where you live and how you are living.

It is easy to just say don't let your sister get to you, but it sounds like she has been ridiculing you for a good long while. I have know idea how old you are and what this has done to you and your perception of yourself as well as the relationship you have with you sister.

Having said all that, you cannot control what your sister says or how she acts unless she is putting her hands on you, but you can control how you will respond to her ridiculing. If you are young and you learn this at a young age it will do you well the rest of your life.

For now with your hair if you feel you are a 4 then follow the advice and styles that us 4 sisters are doing, :yep: but with a caution. What works for some 4s may not work for others. So just keep working at it.
You do you and handle your hair accordingly.

Keeping positive thoughts for you and your sisters and your relationship with all of them.

In that picture I have no product and I haven't combed it. I just towel dried it. I usually keep it braided and just use braid spray. Or I keep it in a bun using glycerin and fantasia IC gel. I straighten twice a year with plain dimeth/cyclomethicone...I posted a few weeks ago when I straightened.

I think your hair would look very different if you used a moisturizing leave in and some oil to seal in the moisture.

That's only if you would like a different look, though.

Yeah I know, I never leave my hair like this. I always let my hair dry before putting conditioner in. Plus with my relaxed ends it would just look too weird to do say, the conditioner-only method.:spinning:

You don't have type 4 hair....that "bigness" is just the result of being dry with no moisture. You're likely a 3c.

But not having type 4 hair doesn't make you any less black.....don't let your sister's silliness get to you.....so what if your hair is different from theirs? Thats what makes you unique.

It definitely looks type 4 to me...

Don't let them get to you. My mother has type 2 hair and that doesn't make her any less black. To really tell your texture post a pic after washing w/no product. It would also help if you get the straight ends. You have a lot of new growth.

I think your sisters are saying this to you because they know it bothers you. Once you get to a place where it doesn't bother you then they will stop saying this to you.

It really doesn't matter what your hair type really is because this isn't about hair type. It's about the fact that they know how to push your buttons and you are letting them. I know it makes you mad but I would bet money if you acted like it didn't bother you in front of them they would stop saying it.
