Exercise & Hair

I do see faster growth when I workout. I think it has to do with blood circulation.

ETA: also, when you are working out you are more likely to drink more water & eat better. I think the growth is from a good combo of everything. :)

I'm hoping I see more growth from working out. I won't know for sure until I flat iron on March 20th. I do co-wash my hair often now.

Good points mentioned already, but I also think that when you exercise, you're better about your diet and tend to eat a little healthier--so the good nutrients you provide your body with help also.

Kami, does your scalp sweat when you work out? Do you put anything on it after you work out? I'm thinking of getting some seabreeze and using it on my scalp mid week to hold me until wash day to freshen my scalp between washing. If I do cardio, even if it's for 20 min, my scalp starts to sweat.

I dunno if it truly gives me better growth, but it gives me better health and that's more important IMO.

I think I get better growth when exercising. I mean, really working up a sweat like running or doing other cardio exercises.

I definitely get better growth with exercise :yep:

I've been a lazy beast all winter and my (lack of) progress reflects that

I sweat like crazy but I don't put anything on it after exercising... I normally work out in the mornings b4 work, after I'm done I'll tie my hair down in the front and let the back air dry untie after 40 min and go... I don't suffer from an itchy scalp which is good and my hair doesn't start to smell until Friday, by that point I'm ready to wash again...

To be honest, before I accidentally found out about co-washing last summer on the internet, my hair looked and felt pretty damaged from working out :nono:. I did not know what to do with my hair once it was drenched with sweat. Sometimes, I would not go to the gym, because I did not want to "deal" with my hair. Now that I pre-condition my hair before I workout (I do cardio 4-5 times a week for at least 40 min - so I am SWEATING), then I co-wash with I get home. I would say it is growing at the same rate, but my hair is just healthy and cleaner:yep:.

I'd rather have bad hair than be fat:look::lachen:So I don't care. I just roll with it. I co-wash in the warm months b/c there is no way to combat straight hair and sweat when you work out 5 days a week.

^^^ I agree with you 100%. I sweat A LOT from my scalp and there is no way I can maintain any style when I workout 4-5 days a week. However, I don't care because I love the way my body looks as opposed to having silky smooth straight hair.

I work out 6x a week. I co-wash and then do a leave in conditioner and seal with coconut oil and hit the sack. co-wash again in the morning and do a wng with some kccc and throw it in a high ponytail.

I definitely think consistent exercise has a lot to do with growth. My hair was a damaged mess before LHCF because I would flat iron it straight every single morning. awful! I'm surprised I had hair on my head at all as badly as I mistreated it.

Dancing in the morning (or working out :look:) + Protein heavy diet + strict water intake = Optimum growth for me.
Too bad I have fallen off BIG time.

When I fall off the wagon a little I just think about how much I really want to reach my goal length & goal weight (as fast as possible). Then I get back to it.

HTH

Yeah, it definitely helps to remind yourself that exercise kills two birds with one stone (weight loss and fast hair growth) :)

On the days I'm just to tired to hit the machines I will go to the gym & just sit in the steam room or sauna just to get a good sweat going. I don't want to miss a centimeter of growth opprotunity. Lol

I agree :yep:

When I was relaxed my hair would be plastered to my head like a wet chicken  My health/body has always been a priority of my hair.

when i first started my journey in aug o9, i didnt really excercise maybe 1 -2 times a week.... yet i always drank at least a half gallon of water a day... i would get 1/2 inch a month or less. in december up'd my cardio to 3-4 times a week, drank the same amount water... and in jan=feb i achieved 1 inch. so i know it plays a major role.

luckily im not a hard sweater, i cowash my hair once a week.

This is a little OT, but I wish more Black women had this mindset. I know too many women who don't workout because of their hair. And it's not like it's an every once in a while thing where they want to preserve a style for an occasion, they really just don't care to explore other options with their hair when it comes to working out.

Bumping... interesting.

I just throw a scarf over my protective styles and sweat it out. But I'll admit that I have it easy. (I'm sporting a TWA since my chop in August). My hair has gotten noticeably thicker since I started working out consistently. But that could also be due to my improved diet.

A Pinch of Honey

I've gone back to working out in the mornings and I really work up a sweat. I just shower, put my hair in a bun and go to work. I still wash my hair at night as usual.

Does anyone have a link to any scientific studies that show how exercise affects hair growth? I would never choose my hair over my health, but it would be nice to know that my hair was getting a boost with every work out. :)
