Another setback :(

I'm sorry to hear this. I think you still look beautiful and you hair is gorgeous. I know you will be back to MBL and beyond in no time.

Have you thought about going to Supercuts to get your hair trimmed? I think a couple of ladies on the board do this and don't have problems. I'm thinking of doing the same thing.

I used to go to Mastercuts. I must say that they KNOW how to cut - it's their bread and butter. But that's where I had my FIRST setback 2 years ago, when my stylist chopped up my hair into a bunch of layers. It's like dejavu, because my hair then was slightly layered with a blunt shape, and she chopped it up like salad. :nono: I still have a huge gap between my blonde highlights and my non-colored hair thanks to that lady. And now this. :(

I'm gonna suck it up and just go back to Aveda. They cost more but they take the time to make sure they're doing what you want.

AND I will be more vigilant from now on, and not assume that because I've been going to someone or used to go to them a long time they'll always remember what I want. :perplexed

I'm so sorry this happened to you...you and your hair are gorgeous, and I know you will bounce back in no time from this!

This is one of the reasons that i'm a D.I.Y.er! :nono: So sorry that this happened to you! I'm sure it will grow back even longer!

OP, I'm so sorry that this happened to you! But, it seems like you have a game plan for next time...

I understand, but you are so darn pretty, I was unable to look at your hair. It will grow back.

I just posted in the MBL thread a preliminary update pic. I know that I was very close to MBL right before I got my relaxer last Thursday. I asked her to give me a trim and she said 1/4 inch. I didn't realize until today why my hair is falling funny. It's because she turned my blunt cut to a U!!! :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash: I am close to tears because this is the second time somebody chopped me up and I didn't realize it right away. I HATE U shapes and it has taken me forever to get a full blunt. I am beyond pissed!!!! :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

Just needed to vent. My sis didn't pick up the phone and I had to tell somebody!!! :wallbash::wallbash:

See my avi for my last blunt cut. Below is where I was before the relaxer. And finally where I am now (I realize it's a side pic. I'm so mad I don't even feel like taking a pic from behind). But trust me it's a U. I couldn't realize why the sides seemed so much shorter. MAN!!!! :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

I mean what is a trim - it is NOT a cut! Why would she change the SHAPE of my hair without asking me first?! I now remember that she was good for iving me a U when I went to her years ago. :nono::nono:

IMAGE_205.jpg

See how the sides that are on my shoulders are shorter?:wallbash: And I definitely took this pic before I realized what she did to my hair! :wallbash:

IMAGE_259.jpg

I have one little piece right in the middle that is less than half an inch below my brastrap. Every other piece is way above. I remember a piece on the side of my hair that when stretched came below my breast. Now it doesn't even touch the middle it. :wallbash::wallbash:

IMAGE_258.jpg

Once I calm down I'll take a pic from behind. I am so frustrated because I was finally at MBL and she ruined everything. On top of that, the experience sucked too. My sides are thin, she didn't style well, my hair is frizzy. :nono:

Thanks for listening ladies. :nono::nono::nono:

I feel you. I got choppy layers when I didn't ask for them. And sometimes you can't tell what the stylist is doing when you can't see the back of your head. A U is just as bad as layers you did not ask for. I'm finally recovering.:wallbash:

I am soo sorry that happened to you. A lot of us feel your pain.

:censored:
I'm upset for you too, your MBL blunt was on point, how dare she and she's trying to be slick curling your ends so you couldn't tell right away. I think you should give her a call and tell her that she changed the shape of your entire haircut without asking and that when you trim you follow the same pattern, not make your own and whatever she needs to hear esp. not following directions, so she'll know exactly why you won't be going back to her again. Man these stylists keep lining up for some Diva Time.

OH I wish you had read my sticky on SHS scissor happy stylists are not your friend, before going to her, if the Aveda people were doing good with you maybe go back to them, but still be specific and make sure you're all on the same page.

ITA with Adora, I can't go to those stylists cause I would be in solitary, they'd be like I don't know what happened she just went loca up in the shop officer  Since I'm allergic to jail, I DIY all the way.

Sorry this happened to you, but your hair will come back thicker and longer, then go swing it ALL.UP.IN.HER.FACE of course you should vent with us, were the only ones who understand :bighug:

Someone suggested a cheap salon you have to watch them too or hair stylist schools. Watch everybody like a hawk, and talk to them before and show them on your body where you want your hair to be after the trim and have them show you back, every single time you go.
Feye's self trim method woks there's tons of longhairs who use that method and haven't stepped a toe in a salon in years. There's even some pics of them with WL, TL and beyond length hair, Leobody C5 and JJJ Longhair are DIY's esp for cuts. Check out their YT channels

I am sorry this happened to you. Do you have a friend or SO that could trim for you. I want to be blunt eventually and I am going to place a ruler and tell him to cut what is below. But I still think your hair is gorgeous.

Awwwww.....it's ok, it's only hair, and obviously you've learned how to retain length and make great progress based on your pics compared to your avi-and you are still looking good!! I think because you hate the U shape, and your hair is shorter in the front, it seems worse to you than it really is. Your back length is very long, and yes, you and your hair are still beautiful!-HUGS-

I am sorry and I fell your dissapointment and frustration. I have been wearing a blunt cut for over 20plus years and had to deal with this type of situation a numerous of times resulting in a big chop to get my hair even again.
I have learned that for even for alot of professionals the blunt cut is the hardest to do. I know how to do a blunt cut that is on point and when I was in beauty school my instructor told me it was a hard hair cut to do on someone who has alot of hair.

When you do a blunt **** you comb the hair straight down making sure you lay the hair against the back when you cut ( I take off my top when my daughter cut mine) the first section you cut use that piece as your guide. Do not raise the piece up or pull to sides and cut because if you do you will get layers or a u cut.

My 13 year old daughter is the best at blunt cutting my hair better than the professionals no layers,no one side longer than the other and no u or v cut.

Thank you. My first setback 2 years ago was very deep unwanted layers so I know exactly what you mean. :wallbash: I never really recovered because my hair is very noticeably different lengths. I just make it work because the highlighted hair is what is much shorter.

I'm soooo sorry you've experienced this!:bighug: I know exactly how you feel because it's been done to me multiple times!! I prefer blunt or v shaped hair as well.

Perhaps you can use castor oil and BT to thicken your edges. BT is sulfur based. Therefore, if you're allergic to sulfur then this product is not for you. I've used both and it has worked for me. I know it will grow back. Yes and I understand that you feel like you should have been progressing towards wsl as opposed to mbl. It will take time, but you'll get there. Despite the setback, your hair looks great. I wish you the best!!

Thank you for the reminder about castor. I was using it up on my ends and also on my feet at nite :look: but I'll use the rest on my sides instead. :yep:

wow, I'm sorry what happened. Didn't the stylist noticed how your hair was hanging b4? How do you gofrom a blunt cut to a u shape w/ 1/4" trim? Maybe she likes the u shape but that's not her hair, it's yours. Sometimes these stylists (not all) only care about what they want not the customs wants or needs. I guess she just lost a customer & money.

I so agree with this. She says a 1/4 inch and then proceeds to cut more in order to change an obvious blunt cut into a u.

I'm so sorry this has happened, but your hair is beautiful and it shows that you take very good care of it, and will be back at mbl.

This is some bull! I'm so mad at this lady for you.
Your hair is still very beautiful, but I know how frustrating it is to have someone feel like they can take authority over your hair.

ITA you do have to watch the supercuts/haircutting places. I went the ohter day, and the lady did what I requested, but she asked if I wanted layers like 5 times and said no and explained that I don't want layers because they make my ponytails look thin (one of my favorite styles). Just the fact that she kept asking ticked me off a bit.

think about it this way...at least your hair is healthy. With that said, it will grow back in no time.

You have a beautiful head of hair.

I thanks the Lord for this board because B4 I would have flipped out but now I kno it will grow back with correct care and you kno yours will florish too.

I'm soo sorry for your experience  I know how frustrating it can be to go to the salon expecting great results and you find that they did what they wanted to your hair instead of what you asked for. Just try to get beyond this point and know that your hair will reach the goal you have set no matter what. :yep:

Thanks for the encouragement ladies. :yep: She hasn't responded yet so I will call her again tomorrow during work hours. :nono:

 at the bolded. I'm not letting this go, even if I get nothing out of it other than letting her know why she lost a customer.

Re: watching like a hawk - yep, I should've been a straight :massmoon:, making her show me how much she was cutting after the first snip, inspecting the length of the hairs on the floor, all the stuff I do with a new person. I'm mad at myself too for being so trusting just because I went to her years ago!!! :wallbash:

Yes, I hate the U, and it hurts that in some places she took of 2 - 3 inches. I look at my pic a couple weeks before I relaxed and I know I was full MBL then, even without the ng being stretched. I have it in a bun right now, it's disappointing to reach a goal and have it snipped away in seconds before you can even enjoy it. :nono: But I know deep down it will grow back, I recovered from a similar setback 2 years ago and since then went from above APL to MBL. So it can happen again, just gotta wait on it (again). :ohwell:

Ok, if blunt cutting is harder than it makes sense that she'd do whatever is easiest. Aveda annoyed me a bit because although they charge $65 for a relaxer, it's another $30 for the trim. They consider a trim a cut. However, they know what they're doing!!! And NONE of them have ever butchered me.

So lesson learned = you get what you pay for. :ohwell:

Hey girlie!!! I am sending a hug to you right now as I type!!!! I am sorry this has happened. I know full well that you are a trooper and your length will be back very soon!

I am also anal and make my stylist show me the amount she is trimming before she trims. It is so disheartening when someone we trust does something against our will. Keep that smile and know that we are here with lots of support for you!!!

Thank you! I'm doing the length check you described from now on. I'm going to specify that I want 1/4 inch off, show them with my fingers, and then ask them to show me how much they're cutting. I won't be a total PITA (I'll explain that the last stylist took off 8x as much as she said she did and I want to make sure it doesn't happen again). I have to be especially vigilant because I'll be getting my hair done in only 2 months since it's my birthday, and I won't have accumulated as much length as I do when I stretch 3 or 4 months.

Oh I still haven't heard from the stylist. I called her yesterday and no answer. I'll call back today. :ohwell:

Hi Butterfly08, I am so sorry this happened to you :hug3: hopefully you can get a refund or even a partial refund. You have beautiful hair, and I know it will definitely grow back with your care.:yep:

is this a pic AFTER the SHS? it looks like you have a good portion of your hair still sitting at MBL. i can understand about the changing the shape though...i'm sorry she did that, but your hair is still MBL, imo. :yep:

:bighug:

NOPE, this is the before. :nono: I'll take an after today. I just talked to her and am a little upset. I'll update the first post with my conversation.
