I think anything longer than MBL is long. When my hair was BSL and I wore it bumped or curled, it didn't feel or look long to me AT ALL. With MBL hair, you can style it and it still looks really long.

ITA!!!!!

Full bouncy APL hair does look longer than fine/thinner MBL hair. Fullness plays a huge part and I think we often don't take that into account.

Not all BSL/MBL/WL are created equal.

There are many times I've walked into an "Am I APL?" thread and been like :look: "I guess"....but the hair was so thin it didnt feel like what I imagine APL to be even though technically the poster had made their goal.

And then there have been times I've walked into another thread asking a similar question and been like :yep: "Hell yea you're APL"

only to later take a second look and be like "oh wait - she's not quite there yet but her hair is so full and lush it just looks hella long"

I know I'm not the only one who's experienced this :sekret:

Real talk: my hair isnt as full as I'd like it to be at the moment (working on that) so my goal is waist length. But if it were super thick I'd probably get the look I want at BSL.

Fine haired folks have to grow longer hair for it to really make a statement (IMHO)

I totally agree with this, I am like that I look like wow her hair is so long, then look and realize it is just very full. I also have finer hair and realize I need more to get that effect. Unfortunately natural or relaxed I am not thick, I love curls just for this reason I get a full thick lush effect.

My chart is:

Shoulder - APL: Medium

APL - BSB/BSL: Medium Longer

BSB/BSL-WL: LONG

WL-TBL: Extra Long

For me it depends on the height and the length of the torso on the person. On me, APL, even BSL isn't long because I have a very long torso. And as such, it took me well over a year to reach APL. It is taking just about that much time to get to full BSL, and I suspect that it'll take longer to get to full MBL. So, for me, MBL is long. For others that I've seen, APL looks incredibly long. :yep:

I know exactly what you mean. I have a long neck and a long torso (which is odd because I'm only 5'2"). My hair is the longest its ever been, but I think I need more length for it to FEEL long. (I still love my hair though and thank God for every strand

Long hair is subjective b/c what you think is long hair the other person could think is short. For example, if in all your life your hair was shoulder length and finally grew to apl, you would consider that long but to another person whose hair has been bsb-mbl all their life or recently will think that your apl is short. Everyone's opinion about long hair is going to be different.

@ the bolded..I think this will be the case with my 6 y/o daughter's hair. She's APL shrunken, WL stretched. Hopefully I can help get her to HL or longer before she takes over her own haircare. :look:

If you are NOT a member of LHCF anything touching the shoulders.

if you are a member of LHCF. Mythcial Fairytale long length.

I voted BSL but I think healthy, full APL can look very long on some people depending on their body proportions, and the thickness of their hem line.

I voted APL... Before LHCF, I would've said full SL because I've rarely seen it in person on a Black woman. :look:

I voted Mid-Back, here in the south I see many healthy heads of hair that are APL or BSL. However, when a Mid-Back head of healthy hair presents....I do a double-take.

I used to think somewhere around APL was long hair but that is/was because that is all I knew. Didn't jsut see ppl walking around with MBL and WL hair unless they were white. (don't shoot me, base off my own experiences). But Now that i see minorites can grow their hair just as long as any white women I would BSL or longer. My own goal is MBL. POW

IRL- Definitely APL, and sometimes shorter if your hair is full
On the boards-MBL

IRL people tell me my hair is long all the time and it's really only a little past sl. On the boards I might as well be bald. It's all relative, but until I start getting some LHCF type length I'm just going to judge my length in comparison to real world people to keep the hairnorexia away:grin:

I'm going to say IRL and LHCF, I would say BSL is what I would consider "long hair"...even though, my hair has been (for years, actually) a few inches below shoulder length and ppl have said that I have long hair...Ok, ok...full APL and BSL is long hair to me, lol- I'm a lil indecisive, I know!

On me, I would feel like my hair was kinda long at shoulder length, bc my hair has never really been full shoulder my entire life.

In general though, I think armpit length is long.

I stan for thick luscious hair though, and I do think a lot of body and thickness makes up for length. If I were out and saw someone with BSL thin just hanging there hair, I'd think, hmm, her hairs long, thats interesting and look away. But if I saw someone with lush big armpit length hair I'd be staring like daaaaang her hair is soooo fly!

At least bra strap to me. Strangely I've seen people call shoulder length long hair and I mean white people lol. I would think that only people who had difficulty growing long hair would call something like shoulder long. At this point I think I actually have "long hair" again as it's almost or is midback,, took me about 10 years to get there after my first relaxer ruination of my hair. If I'd stop tormenting it, maybe I could have what I reallllly perceive as long hair which is waist length and beyond and THICK. Several months ago my hair was WL but so pitifully thin it wasn't truly waist to me... Anyway, people have oddly different perceptions of what long is...

what she said. :)
