ALRIGHTY LADIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'M NOT TRYIN TO CALL ANYONE OUT OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT BUT................HOW MANY LADIES ON THIS HAIR FORUM IS OVER THE AGE OF 30 ???????????? THE REASON I'M ASKING IS, I NOTICE THAT AS I AGE MY HAIR HAS CHANGED ( I'LL BE TH BIG 4-0 NEXT MONTH ). IT'S NOT AS THICK AS IT USED TO BE. AS A MATTER OF FACT MY HAIR IS FINE :ohwell: , AND HAS THIS TENDENCY TO BREAK ALOT EASIER. I'M CURRENTLY ON THE AYURVEDIC REGIME W/ THE ALMA & SHIKAKAI. HOPEING TO SEE SOME POSITIVE CHANGES.

ARE ANY OF YOU LADIES GOING THRU THIS ????? IF SO HOW ARE YOU COPING ??????????? :look:

I am 31 now.

Without a doubt my hair is not as strong as it use to be.

* It comes out easier
* The strands snap faster
* I get breakage easier
* It seems thinner
* grows even slower
* no gloss

How am I combating this...well firstly

* LHCF
* MSM - Flaxseed Oil
* Essential Oils
* good Protein/Moisture balance

I'll be 43 in a couple of months ..my hair has never been this healthy :grin: The Lord is so good ....He can restore your youth.:yep:

I'm over 30 and my hair is healthier than it's ever been. But up until three years ago, I used to relax my hair from root to tip four times a year and I never took care of it. So, I'm sure my complete change in haircare has a lot to do with the healthy hair I see now.

45 here and i'm happy to report (with God's help) i have a very thick and healthy head of hair, sprinkled with a handful of silver grays.

i'm glad i went natural so if i ever do experience any thinning than it should be well disguised :grin:.

Just had a birthday this past Sunday and I am closer to 50 than ever before! :grin:

I too am happy to report my hair is thicker and healthier than it has ever been.

Been doing the Ayurvedic challenge since March of this year and am very pleased with the results.

Not particularly fond of the gray hair smattering about but hey, it is healthy. I know age can have an effect as well as the hormones or lack there of them during this season of a woman's life.

I know the hormone jungle real well right now. :blush:

I'm 41 and my hair is very healthy! It is growing well, I was just thinking a few days ago how my hair looks and feel better now than it did when I was in my 30's...but of course I did not have all you guys helping me...:up:

Well, I'm 35 and I didn't really notice until I went natural how thin (fine) my strands are. Actually, I probably would have had to go natural anyway, because in looking at my old photos, I realized that my relaxed hair was fairly long, but actually pretty thin. :ohwell:

My gray hair is of course of a slightly different texture, but all things considered, my hair is in better health than it was probably three or four years ago. I do expect that my hair might thin out a little more in 20 years (hope not though).

I'm 37- no age related problems with my hair yet. I am natural and it is thick and full. Now I do have a stress spot- but i have been battling that on and off for 10 years. Other than that- it is very healthy. I love it.

My hair has gotten very fine and the texture has changed. I don't know how much of this is due to age or just overall health. Dealing with very fine hair is a challenge, it will snap and break quite easily. I have given up brushing, I only detangle in the shower, and do protein treatments more often.

Im 42 and my hair is in the best shape than it ever has been. I made the decision in my late 30's to really take care of myself as I age. I treat my body like a temple.
I dont smoke, drink or put any harmful products in my body. I changed my vitamin intake and started looking for quality products vs economical products and have found that it makes a big difference.

I have seen extensive hair recovery since joining...so I am hoping I can join the rest of you in stating a very positive notion about my hairs health some time soon... :yep:

I am 47 and everything about me is healthier and better than it has been in years, but that is because I deliberately take care of myself instead of just going along for the ride as I did when I was younger. I started researching proper hair care about three years ago and my hair is healthier, thickest, lushest, longest than it was before relaxing at 14. My success is that I do mostly natural things for my hair and my body NOW and I am actually paying attention and it is paying dividends (no pun intended...).

Over 35 and same here! My hair is longer and thicker than it has ever been in my life. I contribute a lot of that to using henna and shikakai oil for a year now, especially since my hair is extremely fine and fragile. I also no longer brush, which I did excessively, and use direct heat maybe 4 times a year if that. I have hereditary hair loss in my family...my older sister and younger brother are dealing with it and I thought I was cause I had no temples and my front hairline came to a point. Now I have a whole new full hairline straight across with lots of pretty, wavy baby hurrs and full wavy temples. Now that I've learned so much here, I really think the wrong diet/lack of nutrition, lack of physical activity, and wrong hair care practices can speed hair loss or cause it to happen when it could be prevented.

I was thinking of starting a thread about this.

Due to heredity, my hair, though healthy, is not like it was years ago.
It's much thinner, especially in the crown area and that is what happens to the women on my mother's side of the family. I did not get the hair from my father's side :ohwell:. My grandmother and late aunt had hair like rope and it was gorgeous especially when they were older.

With some of the things I am learning here, I hope to delay and circumvent what happens to my hair. I take my vitamins and drink organiz vinegar and take blackstrap molasses as well.

I use henna and indigo to thicken it up. I haven't brushed my hair in 30 years because I learned early on that brushing my hair pulls it out.

I have considered going natural, but I like a straighter look for my everyday hairstyle. My stylist really just texlaxes my hair so I can't say I am fully relaxed though it looks like it.

To all you ladies who have thick, lush heads of hair as you age, it is a blessing and never take it for granted.

I'm 35 and I haven't noticed a change in my hair as of yet. I think this is mainly because for the last 10 years I've worn my hair short like a boy and I never gave it a chance to grow because I was at the barber shop every two weeks.

I'm 32 and my hair has changed as I got older. My texture isn't the same as it was a few years ago.
But my hair is super healthy.

The one negative...I lost my temples due to postpartum shedding earlier this year but it's since grown back.
I've noticed that it seems to start thinning out when I'm not massaging it or applying my scalp elixir.
It is hereditary though. Everyone on my mom's side has those weak temples and they begin to thin in the 30's. So I know that I have to be proactive about it if I want to keep them.

My hair has definitely thinned a lot during my 30s and it is mostly due to hereditary causes. All the women on my maternal sides over 50 are balding in their crowns. I'm really hoping my healthy practices now might greatly reduce and delay this. But I just work with what I have and keep it moving. ... "I am not my hair"

I am not in the 30 and over club but I know for sure that healthy hair has alot to do with overall hair care and your diet. Your diet plays a huge part in your hair's health. So if your hair is thinning and your regime is in tact, check what you're eating.

I'm over 30, and I've noticed that my hair has thinned in the crown, but I'm not sure it's hereditary. I think it's due to low iron levels in the past, and over processing with relaxers, but it seem to be recovering now.

I'm over 30 and my hair is in great shape. It's actually healthier now than it was 10 years ago.

Same here, I never ever had hair longer than a poor shoulder lenght, I'm 35 and my hair is Brastrap for the first time of my life
Thank you Jesus:yep: like Hair Iam says Jesus can restore your youth!

Happy Birthday to me and u!!!!
I'm 31 as well...

I know that my hair isn't as thick as it was in the past...but as far as my adult life...this is the longest my hair as been. Also, this is the first time in my life that I ever took vitamins regularly and ate healthy regularly.
Secretly...I'm not only on a hair journey, but I'm also on a keep looking young forever journey...lol
I think I tapped into the fountain of youth via vitamins and healthy eating. People say that I look 23 or so.

I'm 31 too.. and I can't quite put my finger on what is the difference with my hair.

But I'll try to summarize it this way:

My hair does not seem as thick.. but I know it is. My afro is just as tight as it was when I was 9.

However, since I've been conditioning and moisturizing properly, my hair is easier to manage.

The other thing is.. I pay alot more attention to my hair. Something I never did before.. so I wonder sometimes if the little changes I see are for real or if my mind is playing tricks on me. That's the reason for the fotki, maybe the pics will help me make better determinations.

I'm turning 49 tomorrow!

Chemical sensitivities have increased as I've gotten older, so I have to be more careful about what's in the products I use and eat.

The main change I've noticed over the years is with the different textures. In my 20s, I was aware of the differences, but they weren't really a styling problem. Now the hair on the sides is sparser, thinner and pure frizz most of the time. The crown and back are still thick and wooly, and the stray curly parts look like they could be visiting from somebody else's head.

Age is just a number! Your chronological age does not have to coincide with your biological age. That said, just know that the state of the hair is a reflection of the health of the body. As you bump up your nutrition, exercise and overall health of your body, your hair will become healthier also.

Women in their 80's with whole food diets and wholesome health habits have hair as healthy as young ladies in their 20's. As long as you can fog a mirror, you can restore your health and, consequently, the health of your hair. :grin:

ETA: I'm 48 and my hair growth rate and overall health is just as good as it was (actually better than ) when I was 28.

I'm 49 and my hair is as healthy as ever. Actually heathier since I don't abuse it with too much heat and or by overlapping relaxers anymore.

I eat a pretty balanced diet, try to drink plenty of water, take supplements and simply take better care of may hair in general.

I think I am even graying at a slower rate than some my age. I know that is as individual as a finger print, though. I have some grey at my temples and some strands throughout, and I don't color. Right now I don't plan to. I like a beautiful head of sparkling gray hair.

I'll be hitting the wonderful big 5-0 in May and I am excited about it.
