You must be ___years old to get a weave!?!

I went to the park with my son and saw a girl who couldn't be older than eight or nine with a full weave. It was obvious, because the hair she wore looked very cheap. I could see that the natural hairline under it was sparse and weak. It made me wonder, who is doing weaves on these little girls? And how old do you think kids should be before letting them get weaves?

I have seen some people who will put weaves in their little girls' hair for aesthetic reasons and do not see anything inappropriate about it. In that case it is kindof sad to see kids so little with a head full of fake hair. But there are other parents who use wigs or weave when there child's hair is badly damaged or has fallen out. I know that my aunt had to do this when my cousin's hair fell out from medication because she was being teased so badly by classmates and her self esteem was taking a serious hit. But ultimately it is the parents' discretion about the age and I guess my feelings of approval depend on the situation.

My cousin had fake hair in her daughters hair when she was just a year old! Thats right, two big ole fake pony tails in that girls hair! It looked painful, the ends were pulled so tight. I understand in the case of a medical condition, but some parents go a little far.

Yeah, I see little one year olds with fake hair added to their ponytails too.

But to me a full weave is inappropriate on a child that young. Alot of times, the parents are looking for a styling option for the kids. They don't want to have to spend alot of time tending to the hair. This girl had very tight kinky natural hair poking out from beneath the front of the weave. Sometimes, parents will use fake hair because the children want long swinging hair like their classmates.
