You get more hair envy glares or admiration stares

Hey Ladies,
It has only been a little over two months since cutting my hair and already it has exceeded the length of some ladies that I know at the gym.
Some look and admire how quickly it has grown.
Do you get more hair envy glares or admiration stares?

I get more admiration. Every time I wear my hair out people say how long and pretty my hair is and then get mad at me because I'm always putting on my wig (my hair is significatly longer than my wig) or having any type of fake hair. They think my real hair is pretty enough and that just makes me want to blush!

i get more admiration as well. because i wear it down so seldom, i've usually made a noticeable amount of progress when i do. so people usually say something. i don't get many haters. i actually got more of that when it was shorter and whipped...

When i wear my half cornrow/half braid out style i get stares and people ask me if i have a curly weave. Im always proud when i say NO, its all my hair.

I'm pleased to say I've had a couple of people ask what I do to maintain my hair (and it's not very long yet - chin length with shrinkage, about 2 inches past shoulders when stretched, I think) and they seem to listen when I tell em!

I only have one friend who like to talk hair with me. She'll ask me what I do to take care of it and stuff...others just say oh, your hair is really growing! and they leave it at that...that is the part where my husband jumps in and tells them all about my hair regime, making me seem like an obsessed psycho! They just look at me and smile.

It is about half and half for me. Many people tell me that they like my hair and then there are those people who make negative comments. Then there are those people that just look at you funny when you are receiving a compliment and don't say anything. But, it doesn't make me any difference. It is going to be there whether they like it or not.

No one knows the true length of my hair since I only wear it in buns and phonytails so I get a lot of speculation about how long my hair may be right now. They can tell though that it has grown significantly since earlier this spring I was wearing a real short "Halle" cut.

I get a lot of "why are you letting it grow out?" "What are you going to do next?" "Are you going to cut it again?" As they glare at my hair in the phonytail!

I get compliments. Surprisingly, most people think it's thick but I don't because of all the shedding I'm having.

My hair is natural and I wear it in twists. People are always making compliments and any stares I get are stares of admiration. Some strangers ask if all my hair is mine. When I tell them yes, they are really surprised. Thanks to you guys my hair is healthy and shiny.

I have had compliments that could be seen as negative, such as, "why don't you relax your hair-it would be so long", or "you make natural hair look so good". I don't let those comments bother because everyone is entitled their opinions.

I get a little bit of both. I hear people say "you know that is not all her hair", and I also hear the comments "she has some pretty hair".

I don't consider my hair to be long @ all (it's about three inches from bra strap) and I rarely wear my hair down. A lot of people just think I have short hair because of this. When I wear my hair down, I get all these compliments about my length, shine and color. people come up to me and ask what I use *then they start sniffing my hair because it has VO5 conditioner in it*

And I have overheard ladies sitting behind me saying, "That is tracks because I had my hair styled just like that when I had my tracks in gurl!"

From the people I know, it's admiration. From strangers, most of the time it's one of those "trying to figure out if it's really hers" stares

OH and I wore my hair in a braid-out ponytail last week at work and one of my students (3rd grade) boldy asked me if it was all my hair. Kids say the darndest...

I have an Aunt that always used to comb my hair when I was a little girl, pin my ponytails up on top of my head and tell me,"People don't need to know how long your hair is." At the time I hated it because I wanted to be able to shake my barrettes. But now, I love to keep people in the dark about my hair. I love wearing my fonytail (cuz I think it's cute) or just wearing my hair in any protective style and just listen to people's comments: Is that ponytail real? How long is your hair now after the braids? and questions like that.

Then when I wear it out . . . BAM!!! Shake those haters off!!!!

Wow, it's so funny that people just cant accept that your hair might actually be really yours. I could never be so bold as to ask a stranger if her hair is real...I personally dont care, I try to admire what looks nice or pretty not scrutinize what's real or fake. Ive heard countless stories of actual strangers tugging and pulling on someone's hair to see if it's real. The NERVE

I never get envious stares. People only stare at my hair when it looks really good...or bad.

That's not to say there are no envious people, which there are. But generally, it's one girl in particular (my friend) and she enjoys finding something negative to say. Envious people tend to be more vocal as opposed to staring, because they want to make you feel bad, in my experience. I think she learns it from her mother because she is the exact same way.

This is oh so true.

Staring means that you're being admired. I'm not quite understanding why some of the posters think that someone staring at their hair is a bad thing.

That is so tru Karonica another thing I noticed is that if your hair or anything about you is above average people will compliment you but if it is mind blowing then they hate.

I never go anywhere for people to see my hair, so I patiently wait for the day when people will go

my hair's cut short and I do get those looks. I think some women wish they could be brave enough to be "free" too

, or it could be the shine, or the softened sideburns.. whatever it is, I'm getting the looks!

I was actually embarrassed this weekend when I was having lunch with a woman from South Africa and she kept complimenting me on my hair, saying how long and pretty it is. I guess because of the context...we were in a large group of people I didn't know well.

I dont know what kind of looks i get. I think i mostly get the, "too bad she doesnt actually DO something with her hair" pity looks mixed with some annoyance that, "she has that hair and dont do a damn thing to it." I think people feel sorry for my hair that it has to suffer a "boring" existence with me. LOL -- jainygirl

LOL Strangely I can relate to this. It's like my every day buns Annoy the heck out of everybody but me.

I get more admiration stares and/or compliments. I got more hater glares when my hair was fully relaxed and worn straight, though....

When my hair was longer, women always used to ask how I got "the extensions" in my hair to look so natural when it was flat-twisted in a ponytail atop my head. I would say, "Easily, it's all my hair." They seemed to be disappointed that I couldn't tell them where I bought my hair.

Another time when I was getting my hair twisted, a customer walked up to the woman doing my hair and told her, "I want mine just like hers." My stylist told her, "I only do natural hair, no extensions." She gave me a look like she smelled something foul. Whatever!
