Says this guy I know. Here is our convo

him: "And you better not cut your hair no more"

me: "I'm not shoot this time next year my hair is going to be past my shoulders"

him: "unh huh"

me: "you don't think so?"

him: "nope"

me: "shoot I know how to grow some hair, I wash my hair everyday......."

him: "see that's your problem your not suppossed to wash your hair everyday"

me: :ohwell: "ok...so you don't think my hair is going to be past my shoulders..look it already touches my neck. It's not as short as it looks"

him: "nope...good luck with that"

:nono::rolleyes::ohwell::blush::lachen::lachen::lachen:

I mean what can ya do. On his behalf my hair was looking a HAM. I had attempted a braidout and I had used a different gel which had left my hair kinda hard. Not as soft as my other braidout. My hair wasn't as cute as I know it could be but he'll see next time. I just feel like him saying that to me was trying to tell me nicely it looks bad. I'm surprised he didn't tell me to get a relaxer. I can't wait til I hear that. Whooo people who don't know nothing about hair care telling me what to do with my hair. Cracks me up everytime. I am waiting for a female to step to me bout my hair. You can't really say anything to a guy. Especially one with not that much hair. Ahh well just wanted to share.

Hahaha...I would go out and get an instant weave and then say to him, "see I told you my hair would be past my shoulders and it didn't even take a year...lol"

Interesting. I think sometimes it's best not to engage in hair conversations with some people. Otherwise, there's no point being surprised or confused when they reveal themselves to be misinformed or don't deliver the response we hope them to have. Personally, I would have ended the conversation when he told me not to cut my hair any more. It would have avoided him telling me how to care for my hair when he knows nothing.

I had to learn in the beginning of my journey that not everybody is interested in your length goals, thinks you can achieve them or has an open mind about hair care techniques. As long as you're retaining length and what you do works for you, that's all that matters.

Well...this time next year, please go up to him and flip your hair so hard that it slaps him in the face. It'll serve his silly self right.

And ummm I knoww.
You should have heard this random woman at the supermarket lecturing me about my hair. I'm at the end of a 14 week stretch, and usually, I put a little soft hold gel, tie my scarf at night and bun to keep to everything under control. But that day, it was so humid, and my edges were not trying to take the heat lying down. So this woman (she was maybe in her mid-forties) comes up to me and starts telling me how I need to relax my hair, and how she doesn't mean to be rude, but she's only telling me for my own good, and all that jazz. At one point, she said "I relax every four weeks like clockwork, and look at my hair!" and for the first time since she approached me, I really looked. :nono:

It was bone straight, but it was broken off, dull, and limp, she had almost no edges, and her hairline had receded almost an inch.
I just said "Yes ma'am, I see it. I'll keep that in mind" and I kept it moving.

I know I am so desperate to talk hair sometimes I just let it all out. I really don't care if someone believes I can grow my hair or not they will see soon enough. I just like to hear myself say it out loud every now and again. I agree. And anyways my hair is longer then the last time he saw me and even since when I cut. It's growing but he probably can't really tell cause of shrinkage.

Lawd, I'm waiting for someone who is looking crazy to step to me about hair care. What the heezy? If your hair is not healthy, I need you to keep it moving before you come talking to me about mine. She might have caught me on the wrong day and I might have raised my eyebrow and asked her what was she doing to grow her edges back...lol

Isn't it hilarius when the person with the most jacked up hair gives you hair advice? :lachen::lachen:
I don't talk hair with other people IRL except my cousin who is also a member here.

Your nice because I wouldn't have been. She has a lot of nerve telling you to relax when her sh!t is jacked up.

Whooo people who don't know nothing about hair care telling me what to do with my hair. Cracks me up everytime.

It surprised me everytime in here (most of the people i know here in Mexico are type 1 or 2) and tell me how to take care of my hair with their regimen. Is soooo funny.

I love it when people tell me I can't do something. I become that much more determined to show them. Unfortunately and Fotrunately everybody is really supportive. Probably because my hair is already considered long to them. I don't think they believed me when my hair wasn't. They used to just look at me kinda strange when I said I was growing my hair to the middle of my back...

Wow you live in Mexico? Are you hispanic? What is your hair type? That's funny but I still try to give the clear people some general tips myself. Like scalp massages and I think that's it. I don't really tell them about products but either way they look at me funny like I don't know what I am talking about. Can't blame them...but hair is hair.

Hi
I'm dominican, my hair type is 3c as people say i will wait for it to grow a little bit and the post a picture here xDD. And yep i'm living in Mexico D.F.

Well, i guess that the general things that ppl an do to heir hairs is equal in any kind of hair. Bur products you can use are waaaaay diff. For example, my MIL told me that maybe if i use those leave-ins to make the hair straight my hair could be more manegable and straight :lachen:

Those are the kind of "suggestions" people tell me to do.

sounds like the same thing that happened between me and my cousin. she is a 3b/c and i told her last year that my hair would be at my shoulders and she would just snicker. it took me 11 months, then when i straightened it, she didn't have anything to say, just kept looking. i think she was just glad to have longer hair than me for once, and was expecting my hair not to grow back just because i'm 4a.

Oh ok. LOL I see what you mean. Do you like Mexico? there is no one there with hair similar to yours? That would be cool if there was then you could get the scoop on some different products. I like trying things in my hair that other people do in other countires like the JBCO, Shea butter pure and unrefined, henna, ayuverdic oils, etc.

How good it must feel when you do that reveal. I can't wait. I'm cool on the length because I know it's going to come I am just enjoying the health and riding the rest out.

Yes, I used to feel the same, so I fully understand :yep:. However, now I confine that enthusiasm to LHCF, youtube etc. I just realised that as long as I continued to bring it up to people who didn't give diddly squat about hair, I would keep on facing ignorance and negativity. I would eventually reach a point where being mad or upset wasn't even justified any more. The most I tend to say about hair irl is "your hair looks cute" and that's it.

Like another poster said, let your progress do the talking for you :yep:. Imo, the most amusing thing that often happens in this journey are seeing people who were like  when you first told them about your hair going   when they see you again with some gorgeous hair.

I love Mexico!
And i hav'nt found anyone with hair like me. Well i found a guy once. And there's a lot of dominicans here that actually have natural hair, but they don't really treat their hairs more than shampoo and a conditioner, so is useless.
My principal problem here is that i don't find any product to my hair type. So i have to try the stuff i have here, or buy on ebay or get a big amount of products anytime i go to DR

Yea your right. I am going to have to channel my energy into youtube. I am just so darn camera shy and the camera don't lie. OMG I can't believe that is your hair at 12 months. I am 10 months relaxer free and i did a "blow out" and my hair is no where near that length or thickness. You grow girl.

Taina- Well I wish you luck with that. I know that must be hard. Sometimes the hispanics have some nice smelling hair stuff like Tres Flores. I am not sure how one with kinky hair would incorporate that into a reggie but shoot they don't have any markets with any oils or anything? That's hard. Well anyways best of luck before I start rambling and playing twenty questions with you.

:lachen::lachen::lachen:
I wanted to ask about her edges so badly, but Jesus stopped me.

And I soo understand about wanting to be able to just talk hair with someone, and not have them laugh at you. I wish that I knew a LHCFer irl, because it would be so much fun to just sit there and talk conditioners and moisturizers and hair accessories. Like, sometimes, I get so discouraged, because nobody in my family thinks I can have long hair, and they never get tired of reminding me of that. It's at the point where when I want to go the BSS, I bring a backpack to hide my purchases in, and I lie about where I'm going, because I just don't want to deal with the negativity.

I know that it doesn't matter what they think, because I know my hair is growing, but it still sucks when people don't believe in/support your goals.
But that's why LHCF is here, I suppose.

i feel your pain. I am so jealous when people say they kno a member of our board IRL due to being related or just them both being hair addicts.

I feel you on that. Luckily my family saw the transformation in my hair. When I was relaxed it had grown more than ever and it was always so soft and fluffy. They were always touching it. They never did my practices but they never noticed. They know I am the one with the hair on point in this fam.

Girl just keep doing you and forget who supports you. Seriously when I was talking to him I was laughing on the inside. It's so funny our people think our hair doesn't grow. Kinda sad too but oh well we will show them and besides that is what LHCF is for. We can come here and get all the encouragment we need from each other especially when we make some good progress.

See, you are MUCH more polite than me because I surely would have cocked my head to the side and replied in a puzzled tone, "But you don't have any hair. It's all broken off and raggedy looking. And your hairline looks like it's running away from your face."

She wouldn't have said another word I bet!

 Thanks. I transitioned for 6 months though. So my picture shows 12 months of growth post-big chop. If the transition is included then my hair grew to that length (SL) from scratch in 1.5 years.
