I don't want to have wet hair in the winter but I am not going to use heat. This is going to take some scheduling that I don't like doing :ohwell:

Usually it means I have to wear flat twists for a full day and my head is too big for all that :look: But it is a necessary evil I just have to deal with.

All curly tops what do you do in the cold weather? What are your hassles?

Could you sit under the dryer on low or cool?
I'm transitioning so w&gs don't work anyway but I have been known to go out in a damp bun. I'll just have to be more conscious of when I do my hair and I've found of I style on very lightly damp hair, it will be able to dry overnight.

Wet cold head has always been the reason I get frustrated in the winter with natural hair. I am going to be wigging it, half wigging it and pony upping for the winter. I refuse to be abused by this cold weather :nono: not me and my little head!

This is going to be my first winter as "nearly natural" so I'm not totally sure how its going to respond.

The plan: I'm realizing that in addition to doubling up on the M&S routine, wigs/half wigs will be really helpful. My hair is already getting dry faster and it's not really cold yet. I hate being in the cold with a wet head but I love to airdry...so I plan to lightly blowdry my roots, or i'll just to wash on days when I have time to airdry at home.

Maybe you could wash as soon as u get home from work/school, airdry then pineapple over night. I have to do that with my DD and myself, or we would freeze in the mornings!:cold:

SummerSolstice this is completely off topic but how did you style your hair in your avatar? i think it looks really nice

My hair takes about 2 days to dry on the hottest days of the year. My plan is to sit under the dryer or blow out on cool before bed and hope to wait up with dry hair. Though my hair is normally still damp in the morning, by the end of the day it is dry

I have a dome head too. :)

Anyway, last winter I was preggers through most of it so I needed to keep things as low maintenance as possible. I started styling my hair at night a few hrs before bed time. I did wear wash & gos a lot but my hair was always dry or slightly in the morning because I allowed myself enough time at night to style it and for it to dry while I slept. I switched to braidouts for a while and just allowed my hair to air dry for about 45 min before I started braiding.

This year I am bunning and braiding which makes it even easier for me. I live in the Pacific Northwest so it never stays super cold for long.

I'm gonna lurk up in hurr because this is the first winter that my hair is long enough for wash n goes....not sure I'll wanna do them when it gets really cold though, and weaves make me angry so they're out the question for now. I'm thinking I might have to press to stay warm, because I lack patience for braidouts and rollersets. Hmm...

last winter was my first real winter in life (canadian)..i lived in fla all my life lol...and i went out with a wet puff with no fear *shrugs*..and never got sick..oddly enough..i got sick this summer o_O

for the most part i'll probably do twist/braidout buns, & switch it up with the occasional rollerset or set of twists. i plan on drying under the dryer, or stretching with the blowdryer. i'm really not trying to do that many w&g's this winter, unless its an emergency.
