Will Any Petroleum OR Mineral Based Product Work for Scalp Basing?

I appreciate those of you who are experienced in the realm of self-relaxing and your continuing to answer my questions and bring me up to snuff before I enter that realm myself. I did my first practice relaxer with conditioner the other night and I'm feeling more confident already, though I probably need to get a little faster.

I have some Dudley Cream Press and I am considering using that as my scalp base when I relax. Will that work? Also, I'd love to hear what you use to base your scalp.

Thanks :)

i've been self relaxing for about ten years (I can't remember the last time I went to the salon) and I've been using ProLine scalp base (its a pink gel in a clear bottle... really cheap and gets the job done).

I've never heard of anyone using Dudley's Creme Press as a base, but it is used as a heat protectant. So it may just work.

I would think so. I use regular old vaseline or Hawaiin Silky's Cool Scalp base. It's also petroleum base. If you don't want to spend money just pop out that good ole vaseline.

Oh, and please don't forget to let us know how it goes. I am so excited for you!!

I have a giant jar of Blue Magic that I used specially for basing. I'ts cheap! Just keep it off the new growth or else you'll be underprocessed. Some people can get away with smoothing the new growth but I'm 4a/4b and it won't go down without a fight:grin: .

When do you plan to relax? Also, you know we want pics!!!

I was a self-relaxer for 7+ years.
Good ole Vaseline works as a scalp base.
Whatever product you decide to use, use it in MODERATION, that's the key.
Good Luck!
