Why shouldn't you put Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In Treatment on Your New Growth?

Bulletproof

Does anyone have the definitive answer? I have looked through old posts on the board and it does not seem like it has been answered though a few people have asked previously. It specifically states not to, but the consistency of it makes me believe it would be great for new growth. Any input, knowledge, conspiracy theories would be greatly appreciated, especially if you know it will make my hair end up like my siggy:grin:

I LOVE Cantu Shea on my NG. In fact I start getting a monkey on my back when I feel like I'm running out.:lachen:So far It hasn't harmed my hair.

I noticed that 'warning' on the container, but never understood WHY it said that... maybe u can write them?...

bumping

I just discovered Cantu Shea Butter Leave In and I love it on my new growth!! It's so much softer now. I'm currently 9 weeks post (shooting for 16!) and usually by now my new growth is out of control!! I'm not sure why the container says to not use on new growth. I also research the previous posts. They were all negative and I was tempted to return the Cantu. But it only cost $5 so I decided to keep it and at least try it for myself. Glad I did. I like it!!

I think I will write them to at least know why they put that warning. I find it very interesting to put a warning like that on a product target women of color. The amount of women who relax is large so the there would be a large population who could only use the product for a few weeks at a time? That just does not make sense.

especially if you know it will make my hair end up like my siggy:grin:

OFF TOPIC: But that siggy is hazardous :lachen: :lachen: :lachen: :lachen: :lachen: :lachen:

I fell off my bed laughing... my sister choked on her diet coke.. and my co-workers were cackiling for so long our boss thought we were all on drugs, said something about tests and such.

:lachen: :lachen: :lachen: :lachen: :lachen: :lachen:

This has been confusing people for ages. I wrote a five page review on this ages ago and mentioned it as well. I've had no issues with it.

I've been using this stuff for 10 months & have not seen that warning. Oh well, all I know is that its a staple & I don't want to go without it. I also use it for my daughter's natural hair & have had no problems.

I specifically use it on my line of demarcation when stretching.

I noticed that warning, also.

It may be just a statement to limit their liability in case of trouble. I usually think the company has gotten sued before when I see a stupid-looking warning on a consumer product.

Imagine an AA female, stretching, and using Cantu Shea Butter on her NG. Then she does something silly and her hair falls out. Cantu does not want to be blamed.

This is so funny. I never saw a warning. Whenever something is widely practiced with good results by the ladies on LHCF, I just do it too. LOL.

WoW I have this at home and never even seen that! lol Shows how much attention I was paying to the label.
I only ever heard people say don't use to much,or if you use it lets say everyday for a week than you need to do a regular shampooing and not a co wash.

Another Cantu transitioner checking in. I use this about 2-3x/day on my natural hair. I love it because it makes my hair lay just right. And it makes my hair feel really moisturized. I haven't that warning either. Can't wait to go home and see it(I don't know why LoL) Thanks for the warning But I cant stop using it now LoL...

I read the warning too and I still put it on new growth. I'm always baffled when I read it but I guess its not enough to try to figure out why.

So is someone going to contact them...

When I used to use this product I would put it on my NG. All it did was make my NG wavy and moisturized. It didn't cause any problems or anything.

I called them and spoke with Denisha.

She had me leave a message with the Direcor of Technical Services, Donlene.

What exactly does the warning say, as I am/was too careless to check?

Here ya go

Warnings:
Wait 24 hours after hair coloring to apply any styling or conditioning product.
Avoid applying any styling or conditioning product directly on new growth.
Always remove or neutralize chemical treatments before applying any styling or conditioning product.
Hair burns, keep away from flames.
Keep out of reach of children.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I think we will get to the bottom of this known mystery. I sent an email and I see someone else contacted them via phone. Hopefully we will have a satisfactory answer. I just can't think of one because I believe it may actually be too heavy a leave-in for my relaxed hair especially because the directions say to apply generously and daily. Unless that is just to get you to buy more product:grin:

Subscribing to this thread. I've read the warning before and I also use this in my natural hair (makes my hair nice and soft).

The directions also say apply from root to tip. I guess they are confused over there at Cantu Inc.

Still love the product though

The warning is for when you put it on before relaxing. It can blocks the relaxer from penetrating the hair, causing underprocessing. HTH

My siggy gets me in so much trouble but I love it.

Exactly root to tip includes new growth as well, it is just the way the wrote the directions and the warning.

The warning is for when you put it on before relaxing. It can blocks the relaxer from penetrating the hair, causing it not to take. HTH

Thank you so much. This makes so much sense. Since I am transitioning I guess I am safe hehe.
