Why Does It Take so long? bRA STRAP>WAIST?

My hair is growing out healthier silkier thicker and the layers are filling in beautifully. But why does it take forever for natural hair to get to the waist? I do not rollerset or press or relax or flat iron so I only show maximum length when I pull it straight or wrap it. Now does this mean it may actually be longer? Wrapping and wildgrowth type oils really eliminate so much of my 3b shrinkage (a lot of shrinkage)but I would imagine that the same hair relaxed would appear a few inches longer. Any comments about the visual difference? I really believe that my hair would be further along if it were a 4a or B... because of the stronger strands. It seems like I have to work twice as hard to get the length. Stretched to the max when I pull a section straight with my hand at the back it is to the bottom of the bra strap so it would probably have to be able to reach the derriere to hang at the waist. grr!!!(throwing brushes combs pins and all my vitamin pills against the wall and throwing myself across my bed and kicking my little feet!)

cHEER up!!! sounds like you will be to the goal soon enough.. alot of us want that 6 more inch just to get to your length you are consistant and we all strive to get there.. stay positive. I'm hoping someone will answer your question that has reached that point, it may help alot of us struggling ..

Once upon a time in college . . .

I had long natural hair, I'd say, mid back when pressed. On a whim I had a friend relax it, and it was sooo long. I'm talking almost tailbone!

And then I cut it all off that day. (I still miss all that hair.)

I just don't think that pressing it gets it as straight as a relaxer.

Also- doesn't hair growth slow down once one gets to a certain length. I remember reading something about this once . . . anyone?

Maybe it seems like it takes longer because you're more anxious to reach your goal as you gain inches.

My best advice is to use protective styles. Find one that give you the most growth and use it religiously. The year hasn't even ended and I've gained 7 1/4 inches by keeping my hair in cornrows, with the ends in a baggie filled 1/4 of the way with Olive oil.

Now, 7 1/4 this year doesn't really make up for all of the inches that I cut off, trying to persuade myself that my hair doesn't grow in layers. I tried evening it out by cutting of 3 inches every two months for two years. Had I left all of that hair alone, I would have thigh length by now.

If you were to relax your hair, the general assumption would be that it would be at least a half inch to a an inche or more longer since relaxing it would get it straighter than pressing it. You may want to try a Dominican blowout, which normally gets the hair bone straight. It'll be as if you had a relaxer, so you can see your maximum amount of length at least a little more accurately than pressing would allow. If you decide to try it, I highly, highly, hihgly recommend Salerm 21 leave-in conditioner.

I feel the opposite. My hair is 4a and it is extremely fragile , dry and prone to breakage. I have to work extremely hard to retain length because of this.

It's always hard for curly haired people to see length when they don't fully straighten it because of the curls, which make hair look shorter. Even if your hair grows 1 inch a month, once you factor in the shrinkage, it may look like you only gained 1/2 or 1/4 inch that month. I'm sure you're making progress, slowly but surely
