Why do Dominican stylist insist on the rattail comb?!

I have the same black comb you have in brown. I noticed that after I take nh rollers out and try to run my fingers through my hair to looseen up the curls, I have small knots. And I contribute it to NOT using a rattail comb. When I go to the salon for my rollersets, I never have this problem. And yes I do detangle with a big tooth comb and all but I believe the rattail comb gets the hair super smooth eliminating the small knots that the wider-tooth carbon comb fails to catch. Oh yeah and I just want to add that both the stylists and my cousin (an avid roller setter) claim this fine comb is "necessary" to get the hair straight and to lay smooth on the roller. Is this really true??

Yes that's true. The rollerset wont be as neat if they didn't use the fine tooth comb also it will take out any small tangles that the big tooth comb can't catch.
