I am feeling frustrated with my stylist as I draw closer and closer to retouch time. My hair comes out looking wonderful when she does it, but there are some things I just don't like that I've asked her to correct. For example, when rollersetting my hair she jumps right in with a rattail comb without using a wide tooth first to detangle. She combs from the middle of the strands, rather than the ends with the rattail comb. I've asked her several times to comb from the ends. The last time when I asked, she blatantly in my face kept combing as she was. Yes, my fault for staying in the chair, but I am one of those folks that is too nice usually. She doesn't usually start my appointments on time. In fact, sometimes I am there before her. She's a nice chic, but I am actually dreading going to her again. To top it all off, I tip extremely well but it hasn't really made a difference.

So I am wondering if that perfect or near perfect stylist does exist. Can you help me by letting me know if your stylist does all of the following?

A) She's professional--appointments start pretty close to the appointment time

B) She does not overlap your relaxer
C) She does not pile your hair up on top of your head to shampoo it
D) She combs your hair, especially if wet, from the ends up
E) She listens to you without getting an attitude
F) She does not try to pressure you to get unwanted trims or to relax more often than you desire
G) She seems to treat your hair as well as you do

It's tough out there girl. I am a hairstylist ***. If you do the slightest thing wrong I bounce-never to be seen or heard from again. I can't stand many of the things you mentioned-and why the attitude? I never could understand that one. It's not like your a celeb or something.

I recently called a stylist who I found out does Phyto relaxers. She was so DRY on the phone that it turned me off immediately. She was all like, "I do what I do. Some people don't like Phyto but I like Phyto so they can all just do what they do!" All hard. Whatever. I'll go to somebody else who actually gives a da*n. I'll find that person-eventually.

-And I hate when you tell them not to do something and they ask "Why?" They just want to argue with you about it.

Sorry, I am going off a little bit but this stuff gets me heated. Plus, I don't feel well today.

I would love to go to stylists with a disclaimer-"If I am not fully satisfied with my hair, or I tell you not to do something and you do it anyway, I reserve the right to withhold said payment (section lhcf-0034573)".

So then I shouldn't feel bad for switching hairstylists as often as I do! I mean, it's not like church-hoppin', right?

Girl, you don't count! You're not a real-world stylist--you've been sheltered by the LHCF bubble. It goes without saying that you know how to do everything right! I wish you and Balisi were accessible to all of us. :yep:

A) At most I wait 15 minutes, its a white salon...lol.
B) Nope, well maybe a tad, within reason
C) Oh no...who does that!!
D) Yep...always wide tooth and from the ends.
E) Yep...I "learned" her when I started going there...and told her I WILL ask questions, I'm VERY particular...and I don't mean any offense but do as I say...no issues
F) Nope..no issues there
G) Yes, very much so...she is on me to drink more water though.

I am so feeling this thread. i have finally decided to switch. i can't take anymore. last year i wanted a trim - i showed her how much i wanted off and she took off 3 inches!! and this is after saying that my hair was in good condition(go figure). i would have been at BSL already were it not for this woman. but, she works on a Sunday - which really works for me. i work full time, have three young kids and go to school on Saturdays. that's the only reason i've stayed so long, but now that my fine hair is breaking because she always seriously overlaps by a few inches - i've just got to switch! and no she doesn't listen and doesn't start her appointments on time. she works alone and is always overbooked. my sister's spent 5 hours there already.

My hairdresser did all those things. Well except the parts that pertain to relaxed hair. And then he up and disappeared on me. We miss him. :cry3:

That's just like going to get your nails done. You tell the person that you want your nails squared and painted red, but they make them round and paint them pink. You are the consumer. If the person who you are paying for a service is not servicing you correctly, you need to speak up. If she is doing something to you hair that you do not want, or that can effect your hair in a negative way (ie. not combing from bottom up), than you have a right to do one of two things, demand (in a nice way) that you expect her to comb your hair the way you requested. Or you can get up to leave.

To be honest, because I'm new to REALLY caring for my hair, I have yet to request anything out of the ordinary as of yet. BUT, when I see something that goes against what I want, you best believe I will speak up. I'm paying hard earned money and precious time (waiting) to get this hair, MY hair, done. I understand you're a sweetie, but there's times when you have to ut on your gorilla suit :yep:HTH to anwser your questons:
A) She's professional--appointments start pretty close to the appointment time I feel like I wait too long about an hour, but she has LOTS of followers (I told her that she is overbooked and that it bothers me)
B) She does not overlap your relaxer Nope, she doesn't
C) She does not pile your hair up on top of your head to shampoo it No, the shampoo girl is aware not to do that, and she doesn't scratch with her nails either (that I told her about)
D) She combs your hair, especially if wet, from the ends up Yes, she does
E) She listens to you without getting an attitude Yup, she's openminded
F) She does not try to pressure you to get unwanted trims or to relax more often than you desire Nope, infact, she only dusted my ends if needed, unless I tell her otherwise. That was before I knew what dusting was! :lachen:
G) She seems to treat your hair as well as you do Yes, she cares about my hair and communicates well with me:yep:

I'd like to give a shout out to my hair dresser, Rhea!

I will start by saying my stylist sounds very similar to yours but she still does a good job over all and I have been to enough stylist to know and understand that decent stylist are hard to find, so I have decided to stick with this one :yep:

A) She's professional--appointments start pretty close to the appointment time
Nope (She has a very large clientel)

B) She does not overlap your relaxer
Yes (She is very good about hair care :yep:)

C) She does not pile your hair up on top of your head to shampoo it
Nope (She does an excellent job of washing my hair, BTW I'm quite picky about this)

D) She combs your hair, especially if wet, from the ends up
NOT SURE ON THIS ONE

E) She listens to you without getting an attitude
Nope (She does get an attitude sometimes)

F) She does not try to pressure you to get unwanted trims or to relax more often than you desire
Nope (she does pressure me with trims, albeit I usually need one :ohwell:)

G) She seems to treat your hair as well as you do
Nope (No one will ever do this one...)

I cannot seem to find one that I can click with either. They think that they know EVERYTHANG and get an attitude if you speak up against what they are doing- no matter how nice you are being about it.

I say leave that stylist. Why give your hard earned money to someone that does not respect you, your hair or your wishes??
