There are so many ladies transitioning, and i really rate you for that, as i know its a process.

So if your transitioning, could you let us know, cuz i kinda forgot and i'm kinda loosing track too!

its never far from my mind angell!!

i just love my airdryed relaxed hair, i hate straight hair. i wish the texture i have now was my natural texture.
 
Hows it going so far? Slowly. I wanna cut all my relaxed hair off right now, but I have very little growth at the moment.

How long have u been transitioning for 2 1/2 months

What techniques have u learnt? Aussie Knot Forgotten is the truth. Other than that, nothing else is working. Experiencing severe breakage. Thinking of braids but too broke.

Hows it going so far?
It's going great so far. I am tired of doing my hair and dealing with the two textures. It's not that my hair is unmanagable, it's just difficult for me to find a style to blend in the two textures. I haven't mastered twists and braids and bantu knots don't work for me. I always thought my hair grows slowly, but all the ladies who left comments in my fotki said it's growing fast, so I'm like, "ok!?!?!". I have about 3.5 inches of newgrowth. If I can have 7 inches at or around September, than BC it is. The only style I am wearing right now is rollersets, even though most days they look like crap with my edges and poofiness, and buns. I am a product junkie, but lately, I've been toning my PJ'ism down. When I BC, I want to buy a lot of the Carol's Daughter products. I AM SO READY FOR MY SUMMER GROWTH SPURT!

How long have u been transitioning for?
My last relaxer was August 25th, 2005. The day after that, I said I was going natural...so almost 7 months.

What techniques have u learned?
Techniques? I haven't really learned any techniques. I have learned A LOT, and I mean A LOT of information here. I have learned that conditioner washes are the best!
 
As I'd mentioned in the transitioner's support thread, I'm in the twilight of my transition.

How's it going? It's been pretty easy for me. Just tired of wearing a bun and not doing much else with me hair. I've been getting very, very antsy to chop since February, so I knew it was time to do the BC.

How long transitioning? One year and one week.

Techniques The TRUTH for me has been: Deep conditioning conditioner washes. Adding lots and lots of water-based moisture to my hair routine (I did a porosity strand test w/water yesterday. Strand still floating on top of the water, which is great). No heat. Plaiting my hair at night, and for washing and detangling. Dwelling in the lab and doctoring commerical hair products. Letting my hair do its thing, and allowing my natural hair to take the lead, rather than forcing my natural hair to be like my relaxed hair.

Fine. No problems as of yet. Just controllign the itch to chop and fighting the fear of chopping :)

How long transitioning?

Since May 13, 2005 so 11 months :)

Techiniques?

None really. Ive tried alot of stuff but I dont like co-washing and although Ive tried lots of different products Im still with my long time faves. The crown and glory technique has been in my family for a long time :lol: We have always worn braids to grow out our hair so that wasnt really learned but re-implemented. I can say I really haevnt learned anythign new....

It was going good for about 9 months until I took out my braids and experienced severe breakage....it was my own fault..never thought about deep conditioning prior to washing my hair...once i wet my hair it was a tangled mess and I just kept combing and combing I didn't know what else to do...two months later i've embraced my hair and I am loving my natural texture..I just want it to grow!!!!..lol

Hows it going so far?
My transition is going well right now. I'm really low maintenance, doing my hair is now easy and simple. I have so much new growth now that my hair is actually easier to detangle and condition than it was a year ago.

How long have u been transitioning for
My last relaxer was in May 2004, so I'm less than 2 months from the 2 year mark.

What techniques have u learnt?
CWs are one of the best things I've learned to do with my hair. I haven't really learned new techniques, my regimen is really simple. I let my hair airdry in buns or braids and I wash twice a week, my hair is usually pretty soft and moisturized. The less I do to my hair the better it seems to look and feel.

It's going very well! After joining the board again a week ago after being away, I've learned so much! At first I was frustrated because I didn't know what to do with the two textures. But now, I'm just anxious for more growth.

How long have u been transitioning for?
I made the mental decision to transition about 3 weeks to a month ago, but my last relaxer was January 7, 2006, so 2 months!

What techniques have u learnt?
Conditioner washes are the best! After having my hair relaxed for about 8 years, I thought it was bad to wash my hair more than once a week. However, I've discovered that my new growth loves water and I can't really do anything with it after a couple of days without washing it.

I'm also learning that I can't just moisturize my hair once a week and leave it like I used to when I was completely relaxed. Now I have to make sure I moisturize my hair every other day otherwise it gets really dry and starts to break.

Since I started CWashing last week, and moisturizing more often, Ive had very little breakage! I'm so proud of myself! Thank you ladies for all your help!

Hows it going so far? So far so good! I had a moment of insanity yesterday and cut about 4 inches of relaxed hair! My hair was at the bottom of my neck nearly grazing my shoulders in the back and I cut it to the bottom of my ears. But I like it! I could still flat iron it and wear it in a cute bob or flip. The ends looked like crap next to the nice thick upper portion. Ill try to stay away from the scissors for a while before I mess around and big chop for real! Id say Im 70% natural now! Still have 2 or 3 inches relaxed hair and about 3-4 inches natural.

How long have u been transitioning for? 6 months

What techniques have u learnt? Its funny bc Im just now getting the hang of this. Before I couldnt even comb my hair, it was soooo tangled and matted, I think I was getting dreadlocks for real! And no matter what I put on it, it wouldnt stay moisturized. By the time whatever I put on it dried or evaporated, it was like hay again.

THEN I discovered SHEA BUTTER. Im IN LOVE! And the K Kutter. Now all I need is a denman brush and Im in business! So basically what is working for me is wash once a week with a moisturizing poo or co wash. deep condition with my concoction of shea butter, msm and other conditioners. Use shea butter as a leave in and moisturizer. Braid my hair up and let it dry. Wear a fall or ponytail. Im also getting a Lace front. This way I dont get fed up with my hair and relax. I can still look presentable till I get enough to work with.

I havent decided whether I will relax again or not. I want to see if I can manage my natural hair in humid FL. If I can learn to style it cute and find a natural salon, Ill keep it natural. If not, once I have a full head of healthy virgin hair, I will relax and start all over with proper haircare on my newly relaxed head of healthy thick hair. Or Ill texturize and have a happy medium.

It's been good. I have been in braids during my transition period. I am going to move on to a sew-in next.

How long have u been transitioning for?

About 10/11 months. I have almost cut off all of the relaxed hair.

What techniques have u learnt?

Since I have not worn my hair out, I can't really say. There is a patch of hair that I have unbraided that I play with. I have found that Healthy Hair Butter and S-Curl keeps my hair soft. The S-Curl gives my hair a nice shine when dry.

Close to 8 months.

Nothing really new. I'm just sticking to what works best for me. Which is CO Washes, Deep Conditioning, Moisture and Protective Styles. :)

I originally was aiming for a two year transition, but I'm kind of curious to see how much longer my hair can get. So I'll try to make it to New Year's, unless I get bored or antsy over the summer and chop sooner :-)

How long have u been transitioning for 1 year and a month

What techniques have u learnt? I've learn a lot of techniques but what has truly been godsends are: Doing EVERYTHING in sections, moopooing(click for the thread), for ultimate texture blending: making individual twists then twirl into a bantu knot then unravel.

I liked what Cheleigh said....transitioning my mind so that I don't try to make my natural hair act like it's relaxed. That is one of the biggest humps to get over.

Also, MissMarie pointed out something that everyone should have picked up.(eventhough she's been transing for 2 yrs) detangling is a lot easier now, for me, than it was about 8 months ago. The more natural you get the easier it is to detangle because you are losing the stringy relaxed ends.
