Hello Ladies I just wanted to know how did you decide how long you wanted to transition????? Is it lucky number?? or do u just pick a number or does it really matter to you?????
I was thinking of transitioning on week 75 which is my lucky number??? I am only on week 8!!!!

When did you know when it was time to stop transitioning???

Right now I am 33 post (7 months). I don't plan on doing the BC, so I'm doing some little trims once I get to BSL. I think when I get to the 18 month mark then I'll just cut the rest off.

last time i went natural i transitioned for 19 months, i picked 19 because i wanted enough hair that would look decent in a wash an go but also be able to do ponytails and buns.

i transitioned for 21 months. Waited long because I wanted my hair at a length I knew I would be comfortable (lucky 4 me I went natural b4 so I had an idea of how long myhair would be at what given time).

Intially I said I would go for 2 whole years, but I knew I wanted to BC for 09 to welcome the year on a positive note.

I wanted to wait 24 months because I thought I'd be close or at APL by then. Didn't happen! I chopped at 15 months because of the tangling and weak ends were not holding up well.

i want to transition for a year but three mnths into it I want to BC at six months. I don't like the two textures I am tired of the breaking and shedding. I am also to eager my texture. I am going to wait and see how long I can hold up during this transition.

I'm going for 2 years (57 weeks tomorrow) but I did mini chop at month 11.5 (from BSL to above APL) due to tangling and thin relaxed ends that were breaking. I am almost back at APL and don't have a big problem with tangles anymore.

If i can make it to 6 months then i will cry. I give yall props for transitioning for a Year or more.

They need to give folks awards for that.

I knew I wanted to transition on the day of my last relaxer. My hair was just too flat against my head. far I am 25 weeks post (5 months).....tangles aren't a problem yet. I would like to transition for 18 months, so hopefully everything works out. One thing I don't understand is why is it the other ladies that are 5 months post have more new growth than I do. Mine is about a 1/2 inch almost an inch!!!! Grr!!!! That gives me the assumption that this transition is going to be a verrrrrry long journey.

I am going on 106 weeks!!! (2 years and 2 weeks!!!):dance7:
I never picked a "magic number", but just knew that I wanted to have enough natural hair that would fall at my shoulder (in it's natural state).
I had initially said I would transition for another year, which would give me an opportunity to slowly get rid of the relaxed ends, but I had an epiphany this morning as I got out of the shower:sad:

I have 12 inches of natural hair and 10 inches of relaxed ends. My plan was to (over the next year) slowly get the relaxed ends trimmed off (as I have been doing over the past 2 years) as I grow another 6 inches.(which seems to be my average growth rate per year). Even though I DC every week, I just realized this morning that the relaxed ends (especially the last 3 or 4 inches) just don't compare at all to my natural hair. As I was trying to style my hair, they dried quicker than everything else, which lets me know that they are not really healthy. Soooooooo, I think I will go next month and get a mini chop of about 4 inches, which would speed me up in the transition just that much faster.:yep:
At that time, or either shortly after, I think I will also get the highlights (that I said I would get after my transition was over) I've wanted.

Right now I'm feeling that 4 inches would be a great number (to get rid of)........let's hope that doesn't change by next week.:ohwell:
