Who's jumped on the HORSETAIL BANDWAGON???

*Running alongside the wagon trying to make a decision* :scratchch

My vitamins have a little horsetail in them but not much, and I don't know the actual silica content. I might have to add some...

Yep, I am on it too. I had recently started my vitamin regimen and when every started talking about the horsetail I figured it would hurt anything to add a couple of more pills. I have been taking them about 4 days now. I have been on my vitamin regimen about 2 weeks.

whats the diff betw horsetail and silica both of the labels say
Equisetum arvense
so is it that horsetail=(stem) silica=root
is the stem stronger?

Horsetail is an herb. Silica/silicon is an important mineral our bodies need. Horsetail is just the most popular source of silica. It has a high concentration of silica compared to most other plants. A good silica supplement should tell you exactly how much silica you're getting in your horsetail, oatstraw, or whatever. If they don't say explicit milligrams it probably has the percentage (5%, 8%, 10%, whatever). So if you have 500mg of horsetail that is standardized for silica to 10%, you are getting 50mg of silica.

Oh and just to update, I've grabbed onto the back of the wagon and swung myself up  I'm actually going to be trying bamboo extract, though. It's even higher in silica than horsetail. I've ordered Solaray's bamboo extract. I'll report back after it arrives and I've had a chance to take it for a while :yep:

oooh = pj junkie needs to know!!!
where do you get it from??????????????????????????????

link???? website????? store???????

Add my name to the list, add my name to the list!

I went to GNC today to get it and there was only one bottle left but it contains Gelatin and I am allergic to Gelatin so I had to leave it in the store! I hate that! But I did find something a Whole Foods called Alta Silica which has 500 mg of Silicia. Will this do?

I got mine from GNC about 2 weeks ago! It is 500 mcg and I take it 2x per day!!! :)

I've jumped back on the horsetail wagon after a few months break, i'm looking forward to the wonderful results i had before.

Are ther any weird side effects like with biotin and MSM, I jumped on those bandwagons and had to jump right back off cos I couldn't take the pimples/headaches/vivd dreams/

Sorry, I didn't come back in the thread yesterday! I ordered the bamboo extract from myvitanet.com. Some other on-line stores have it, but it was cheaper at vitanet, plus I've ordered other stuff from them several times before so I know they are a good vendor.

I take silicia also. I have been taking it since June. My hair is growing pretty well but I can't say it's because of the silicia. I take other vitamins also.(biotin, silicia, msm, iron, one a day, etc.) I will continue to take them all since I am happywith my growth rate. I am only taking one silicia day.

From the standpoint of a pharmacy student, I just want to educate everyone about Horsetail Tea before they jump on the “bandwagon.” Horsetail tea shouldn’t be consumed by individuals under the age of 18 years old. The herbal product contains a small amount of nicotine as for this reason the product shouldn’t be taken orally for more than 7 days. Instead of taking the product orally, you may consider using the tea as a hair rinse. If anyone is considering taking Horsetail tea orally, please be cautious if you have low potassium levels, taking anti-diuretic (water pills like Lisinopril), anti-hypertensive agents (especially Digoxin), poor kidney function, pregnant, or breast feeding. Ultimately, it’s your individual decision to decide whether you want to take this product long-term but be very cautious about the nicotine and the possible side effects.

**Herbal products and dietary supplements are not monitored by the FDA, so please be very cautious if your taking Birth Control pills, heart medications, anti-depressants or anti-anxiety medications. Please research ALL herbals before you start taking any non-FDA approved product because short term results may ultimately harm you in the long run.

My DH:kiss: went home to Virginia USA for a few days. While there he picked up my horsetail tea and pills at a health food store in New Port News .I'll start by taking the pills every day and the tea every other day. The tea was sold loose by the ounce,:dollar: 1.50 per ounce (good price:) ). I'm praying for thickness and strength. I'll record the date I'll start (tomorrow) for 3 months (results should show by December). I'm excited:yay: .
God bless

Welcome! And thanks for the heads up. I've been worrying about this also. I already ordered the horsetail, but I will definitely be monitoring any physiological changes. :)

I've been taking Horsetail supplements since June of this year. My new growth is coming in thicker and softer, but I also take other supplements. So I'm not sure if those changes are attributable to the Horsetail or the combination of vitamins.
