Celestial you're not back on THAT kick again are you? LOL thought you got it outta your system. I don't think you're completely wrong tho.

Most of the loose (non Lock'd) "Andre 4s" who are MBL+ at this site (and even offline in my observation) are also relaxed or regular heat straighteners. Almost none are curly naturals and even fewer wear their hair out almost ever.

Celestial, why do you feel this way?

The way I feel is what I witness and see. Black women mainly those with tight nappy hair cannot grow long hair unless shoulder length is long to their standards. Nappy hair cannot grow as long as other races. That is scientific proven fact. All these so-called black women that grows hair MBL and beyond don't account for 1% of the population. Of course black women can grow hair past their shoulders but they are in a very, very, very, small minority.

Visiting this site often is not a waste of time. It's a useful tool to get into black women thoughts and opinions. The task can be difficult because you can't always discern lie from truth on the internet. But there are a lot of sponsors from salons, magazines, advertisement agencies, manufacturers, and business people and organizations that frequent this site and even have their own task force post on here. Trust me, you people don't know who is who on this site.

True, but you could easily do that w/o spending the bread. LOL...this site is lurkable/searchable fro free. :lachen:

If you were doing SERIOUS research, this is probably the worst place for it.

Ok, I can understand it's hard to believe something you've never seen but I don't get why you feel it's not possible.

What kind of research have you done or read? I'm really curious. Are you saying that all hair can not grow, relaxed hair, natural hair, I don't understand you.

How long is your hair?

Not necessarily true. You need to post to get answers that you need and you also need to give stories to get feedback for thoughts on answers you're looking for. The internet is used for SERIOUS research in all fields.

Where are you getting these stats from and how were they obtained?

Well most Black women work AGAINST their hair type which accounts for why so few have hair length, that's not just Andre type 4s either. Black men who CHOOSE to grow their hair long do successfully because most of them do not work against their texture, but w/ it.

As for "science" be skeptical when it comes to anything racial, esp regarding Blacks. Very little of it is objective and much of it has agendas. A casual study of history bears this out.

Celestial...anybody who's admitted that they didn't notice this site had a search function is hardly creditable as any sort of researcher. Sowwy. Please....just please!

You're no :detective: sweetie.

The people with the biggest hang ups on our hair are us. If we stopped the negative self talk, it wouldn't really matter what anyone else has to say.

Gym freak,I agree, and although we don't see alot of blk women with long hair that doesn't mean that they can't grow it. I feel that too many folks equate long hair with beauty whether its healthy or not regardless of ethinicity. To be honest even though there are many blk women with unhealthy hair, I see plenty of white ones who are more of the same with split ends up the wazoo and they just choose not to cut it!We have for too long let white people beat into our brains what we can't accomplish, that we're stupid, that we are not attractive, that are hair is ugly and won't grow for so long that now we believe the hype and its sad:nono: My hair is longer now than it was a a child and I intend out of curiosity to see how long it will get cause short to medium length hair is not our terminal length as stylists would have you believe.

I don't feel it's not possible. I don't think it's possible for most nappy heads. It is possible for a few, the minority. It isn't possible for most or the majority. Scientific evidence points to it all the time. Black hair grows long only to black people's standard. It doesn't grow as long as other races.

:nono:I think you thought wrong.

I don't see what's irrational about thinking that someone who posts 800+ times on a hair board may be interested in hair on a personal level.

*fingers twitching* Why do I feel like breaking out the .gifs up in here? lol

You're right about that. I'm no detective, but my research proves what is believed. I really didn't know this site had a search function?

Black women are saying it. Other folks/races would not say it if they didn't get the messages from us. If we start growing our hair or just taking care of what we have no matter what length and stop making such a big deal regarding our hair I think others would not pick up and exploit the issues we have with our hair.

Celestial where on earth do you live? You act as though all blk women are bald headed, even with all the jacked up heads I see in Harlem I still see mutiple heads of hair daily in all textures that are beautiful and shoulder length or longer. I have hair that was perceived to be unmanageable when I was a childand now its longer than its ever been and still growing. As a result of natural products and no chemicals my hair is soft shiny and mangeable. We all can have "good hair" if we take care of it by using quality products and accept it for what it is. I love Mdwezi's hair, Sera's hair, just as much I love empressri's. Its been stated before in various threads that you don't have to be a type 4 to have issues with retaining length or even dryness sometimes its the density of your strands. Long healthy black hair is becoming less common because their are too many crappy hairstylists and more people don't know about this site.

If it's NOT poss for most kinky hair, it's because of the choices made NOT because the hair won't grow. People destory their hair all the time. If they didn't we wouldn't have all these HELP...my hair's falling out/breaking off" threads and then they proceed to tell us what crazy thing they did to make it happen (usually trying to alter the texture). Their hair didn't go grab a bottle of Aphogee and force them to pour it all on! Nah...didn't happen.

Their hair didn't fall out simply because their genes said "we're X length, let's bail"! :giggle: It's what THEY did to their hair. Kinkier hair has less error for margin in this way, but all hair will break off if you do stupid things to it constantly!

Black men can't grow long hair. Black men when grown out is still a short stature but often longer than black women on average; but the black man hair still grows short or to a length that is far below other races.

Ok, I agree with you.

It is not possible for the majority if the majority has the same belief as you and at the same time they don't practice any type of healthy hair care.

I didn't say it's irrational to think so. I said I think you thought wrong.

No you didn't know...you stated so OUTRIGHT. :lachen: Nor had you heard of fotki even tho there are tons of sigs all over. Clearly your "research" skills leave something to be desired.

Let's just say I remember this clearly because people who are so sure of themselves as you seem to be on one subject, rarely admit to being so unobservant on another. It's original, to say the least. :lachen:

I wish the sistahs here wouldn't get so riled...a member search of your name is enough to know how to read ya. You seem to get on these kicks and then go the opposite direction. No middle ground, but fun.

One mintue you're sharing tips on how to care for Black hair, the next your saying Black hair doesn't grow on a site dedicated to that purpose.....too extreme chile, too extreme. You seem to think this is logical...but it's about as logical as eating dirt! ;)

:lachen:
Real aka Ahmad Givens would DISAGREE w/ ya, unless he turned White or something. Stop while you're ahead. You're looking like a fool now and slightly stoned.

Normally I wouldn't suggest a member has some sort of emotional/drug problem like this in this manner, but this is how it's looking here. The pattern of behavior is there.

Hair does fall out by predetermined hereditary genes, and that's where shedding comes in especially when the hair is prepared to grow. In other cases hormones or illness can cause shedding. The breaking of hair is not genetic, though. If black people hair grew as fast as other groups the breaking wouldn't be too much of a problem.

Real aka Ahmad Givens would DISAGREE w/ ya,

If 100% of nappy-headed black men grow their hair out it will not grow long, at least not as long as men from other races, but long to black people standard. Black men hair grows slow and shorter than other groups just like the black women. Ahmad Givens is one person.

Yeah, this is probably what I mean when I say "If you can't retain your length for whatever reason, then you can't grow hair" If you're doing things to it that makes it impossible to grow beyond a certain length, you're making yourself bald.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

I think AA women can potentially grow hair, it's just that a lot of the common hair practices aren't letting it happen. Let's say 75% (rough figure here, it's probably a lot higher) of AA women are doing some crazy non healthy things to their hair. Extremely tight braiding, not keeping the scalp clean, relaxing, hot combing, dumping all sorts of heavy greases on it, and including women who intentionally cut their hair short for styling purposes; and someone on the outside looking in sees 75% of the women either bald, wearing a wig or a weave, or have hair no longer than an inch long. Of course they're going to think that the majority of AA women can't grow hair. And of course they'll be surprised and awed to see an AA woman with MBL length or longer. That's not racism or ignorance, that's noticing a very common practice. It's how the human brain works, you notice a frequency in behavior or practice and your brain categorizes it so that it makes sense.

I don't understand why it makes people so angry. Just grow your hair, and stop worrying about what the next person says.

Example:

I live in NYC. The 6 train runs through lower Manhattan and Canal street, through Chinatown. Now, I know for a fact that I'm not gonna get a seat on that train, even if there is becoming available, because a little old Chinese person is going to outrun me to that seat, no matter how fast I am or how close to the seat I am. Not all of them do this, but enough of them do so it's incredibly noticeable. I resign myself to knowing that I'm going to have to stand just a little bit longer till we're out of the Chinatown area. Is it racist to notice this? No, it's a pattern my brain has noticed and has categorized into a way of navigating the subway system.

I've mentioned this to Chinese friends, and they'll be like "Oh yeah, there's noooooo way you're getting a seat on that 6 train in Chinatown"

Darn, how many posts do I have to report before the troll gets banned. lol

You don't think it is unfair to others who are interested in the thoughts and opinions from this forum. This is not a black owned site and black women aren't the only ones on it. I noticed every time a black women can't handle something they cry and try to force others from speaking. You don't think that is kind of self-centered and selfish? What about others who share my opinion and want to understand others belief but can't because black women cry to keep them shut.

I have heard it a lot of times!

Many people think AA women unless they are mixed cannot have long hair. BTW, I know a mixed girl who's hair cannot seem to grow past her ears...I should point her to this site...now that I think about it.

When I was in Kenya, I knew a lady who was African (not mixed) had the longest thickest, blackest, soft hair and hardly did anything to it than oil it every now and then. I still think of her for inspiration.
