Checking Daughter In

This is like unreal!

Thick head checking in... I have a love/hate relationship with my hair...although I like the fullness of it I feel like I could retain length easier if it wasn't so thick (tangling, etc...).

Lots and lots and lots of hair here too :yep:

I try to use alot of cheap products since I use so much of everything. The more expensive stuff I try to water down with water, oils or other similar products to stuff much as possible without ruining the benefits of the expensive stuff.

It loves moisture, sucks it right up.

I was thinking to myself, " If LynnieB and her pretty thick hair doesn't pop into this thread, something is wrong ." Beautiful thick hair!!!

I do have thick hair, and I use a lot of oils and butters to stretch my products. There is no way my hair can be weighed down due to too much oil or butter :)

does anyone with thick hair have anything the attribute oter then genes to helping them get super super thick hair? I've trying nettle rinses and going back to my poly 80

Thickie checking in! I tend to mix in oils with my conditioners and moisturizers. What are you going to do? Thick hair, just love it!

My hair is so short and extremely thick it's ridiculous how much time it takes for me to saturate my hair with products to moisturize and tame frizz. Sometimes I miss having permed hair just because how much time it takes, but I love being and natural and having thick hair.

How did I miss this thread...?!

One of the first things strangers will say to be is "Your hair is so thick.." and then they kind of look at it like they want to grab it, and then I back away slowly.

I secret is using cheap bases. For instance, for my DC I use Lustrasilk as my base b/c it's super thick, and holds well. Because I like to DC for a long time I can't use runny drippy stuff.

Now I add whatever I want. Secret #2 - Expensive products are expensive b/c they use the best ingredients, but a lot of the time the ingredient they market (contains pure olive, coconut, and grape seed oils!) is the one that's the least concentrated. It's in the middle or at the end of the ingredient list. I use a lot of kitchen/easily obtained but effective things and then I add as much of them as I want to my base for a fraction of the cost.

For special things - Silk Amino Acids, Wheat Protein, Rice Bran Oil and Sodium PCA I order online. It can cost more initially, but it saves you so much in the long run, and my treatments are super effective b/c they're getting those "expensive exclusive" ingredients at much greater concentrations.

My hair is very thick. My hair care staples - ORS Olive Oil, KeraCare Oil Moisturizer with Jojoba - last a good while, but I go through my (fairly expensive) conditioners pretty quickly. I sweat my hair out 3x/week at the gym and have to wash it when I get home. Because I co-wash, shampoo lasts longer than conditioner. After the co-wash I do eight two-strand twists, wrap them into knots and secure them with scrunchies. It's always damp in the morning. And I started doing eight twists, instead of six, thinking that would help it to dry faster. No such luck. Re/braids: I like to have 2-3 months of new growth before I go for braids, so that's always a fun time. :nono:

I started using NTM conditioners again more often to cut back on the cost of other conditioners. So far, so good.

Thick hair - it's nice to have, but it takes a lot of work.
