I know its normal to have more than one texture, I just find this so crazy. Like how does it do that, lol

How do you deal with your different textures

Hi Anew. I am current transitioning, 10 months post and I have 3 different textures going on! The front of my hair looks wavy while the crown is course mixed with some coils....

3c at the sides by my ears. 4a mostly everywhere else. Don't know what the hell is going on at the crown cus nothing makes it soft, its crunchy and dry and has no definition at all.

I don't know why we have different textures on our head.

Looking at my 15 month old baby. She has silky 3b hair but where she laid down as a young baby the back of her head is a very dry 4a. I wonder if it has something to do with pressure during birth or when we were young babies....i dunno...sounds kind of crazy as i type it...lol.

Yup I definitely have multiple textures. Around my ears is Z textured 4b (so 4z?) the rest is generally coiled 4a, the back of my head being the most tightly coiled. THe front of my head is 4a but less tightly... and if I mess with it, it won't curl at all. the top of my head has some 4b and some very soft loose 4a (might even be 3c but idk).

Basically this mess is why my mom relaxed my hair back in the day :lachen:

but yeah I just work with it... at the length that I have it now, its shrunken state.. you can't really tell the difference unless you put your hands in my hair.

Me!
I am almost 11 months into my transition and I have noticed that I have what looks like 3c in the back, 3b on the sides, and 4a at the crown. The 3b and 3c don't usually require anything special, but i have to be very gentle when detangling the 4a and do so with loads of conditioner and in smaller sections. At first I hated the extra work, but now I am used to it and can appreciate the complexity of what's growing out of my scalp. I know it's going to look very interesting when I chop... lol. My crown definitely shrinks more than anywhere else so I am interested to see how that's going to look.

I have 3c in the back and on 1 side :ohwell: ...(I don't know why) and 4a/b mix every where else! Front NO definition @ all but crazy spiral's and coils everywhere else.....lmao I am protective styled most of the time because I just can't deal with it :wallbash:

I don't know exactly what texture I am, but what I can tell is that the front is the mostly tightly coiled and it gets looser and looser as it goes back. I think I'm gonna have a mullet when I BC :perplexed

i do! I do! I have 3bc and 4a! Right now my hair is so short all I can do is deal with it.....i usually pick out my twa to make it look like one type :-D

If you look at my siggy, the back is more of a 3C, but the front/crown area is 4A and 4B.....it is what it is:)

The downfall is that the 3C hair is so soft, when I twist, the hair is more loose and the twists are not as tight and don't stay as long. I put Leave in on the ends so they'll curl up and stay together.

I'd say I have about 4-5 different textures going on. My sides and nape are about 4a, above the nape to the middle crown varies from all the 3's. I think the top of the crown area is like a 2b/c (it's basically straight but coarse. can barely hold a twist or braid) Oh, and my hair is very dense.

Front and back is 3b. The middle is 3C. Oh and get this, one side of my hair up to my ears is wavy 3b and the other side right up to my ears is a curlier 3C. When I do wash and go's it looks as crazy as it sounds

My hair is like this, too. I have no illusions about being able to wear wash and go's without tons of product and mucho manipulation. I'll just wear it bunned, braided, or pushed back with a headband when I'm finished transitioning. :ohwell:

Yes, and it is frustrating! Different curl/coil diameter, strand diameter, shrinkage rates, shine, etc. There is a section where several textures meet and they do not play nice together. Detangling that area is challenging.

I've got at least 4 textures going on in this head
-the hair about a cm above my ears is completely straight. No texture at all.
-about an inch up from that is 4a on both sides. My hairline is also completely 4a
-the center has a looser curl like 3c
-the back is mix of 3c, 4a, a really soft wavy section that I haven't identified, and a few 1a pieces for good measure.

Lets just say I certainly won't doing wash and go's

Me! 3c in the back 4b on the top and 4a on the front. Even as a kid I has what my mom called a "Nappy patch" lol. Now at least I know how to blend it without a relaxer, through braidouts, twistouts etc

Kinky-cottony in the front no curl definition.
Curl definition in the nape 4a
Nape to behind sides of ear are still kinky-curly
Wavy in the middle, no curls/kinks but waves.
Each strand is kinky in texture so little ziz zags...

Yes, yes, yes ... and it's annoying as heck! The entire front half of my head is 3c and the entire back half is 4a (except for the nape which is also 3c). The 4a hair requires more conditioner and greater patience when detangling, while the 3c hair does not. My wash-n-go's look crazy because the front hangs looser while the back shrivels up to my neck like a frightened child clinging to its mother.

Ah well ... I've just learned to live with it. :ohwell:

Same here, 3b in crown and nape area, 3c on the sides, and a nice dash of 4a dab smack in the middle of the back of my head.

My hair is also three textures. The nape is loose 3c, my occipital bone is 4b and the rest is 4a. The only reason it is so noticeable right now I believe is because i just did the big chop. When my hair is longer the textures are not as noticeable. I have to add extra moisture to the hair that grows from the occipital because it gets really dry.

front half of my head is 3c
middle 4a
just before the nape 3c
nape 2a (several stylist asked if i relaxed my hair)
i can never wear a wash and go!

Yes! I have 3c in the back and sides 4b in the center back of my head, and 4a everywhere else...it's kinda of unique I think, we get all the fun of working with diffrent textures. I guess the hair really shows how we are all mixed with another race somewhere down the line..

yup 3 too

wiry patch in the front and crown, 4a in the back and the rest 4b.

only the wiry patch needs special attention, the rest of my hair is pretty predicatble

Try having about 4 from a small patch of thready 2c/3a to silky 3b/c and cottony 4a around the perimeter and everything in between

I have three textures as well. 3c at the back, 4a in the front and looser 4a on the top (in terms of curl pattern) than at the front but coarser feeling.

Sounds like you and I are hair twins. My crown has been "funky" since I've been newly natural. But what I have found and used, that has seemed to help my crown is the apple cider vinegar rinse. Mind you, I've only used it once, but my crown is feeling alot better. I tried everything to tame my crown and never tried the acv rinse. I will have to keep you posted on my progress.

:lachen::lachen::lachen:....mine too....except at least urs is all the same texture in the back....my hair is 3b on the left side and 4a on the right....so omg.....when I try to wear a wash n go....the left side looks way longer than the right side...smh....

sounds like my hair

when its full of conditioner it just looks different back there, lol.. then the rest just coils up and some parts just do nothing

I guess i have a small patch of 3c and 4a/b everywhere else
