For the past 3 years I have done all of my touch ups myself except for two that I got done at Leon's beauty school last fall and my most recent touch up

i go to the salon...i use to do my own....but i figured i was doing more damaged doing it myself...so i decided to start just putting it all in the hands of my hairstylist...and ive been happy since March..and its been growing since..but ive had it cut to keep it short...

I go to the Dominican salon.... its $40 for the gentle treatment, no lye relaxer (which I get), and $35 for the lye relaxer.

It would be so nice to do it myself and save that money.... but its also kind of nice going to the salon and getting pampered, so to speak. So I guess laziness wins out in the end.

doing my own since Jan. 05

doing it correctly and successfully since March 06:eek: :ohwell: :D

Hey classy ebony girl, great pic! Thats how my hair looked when I was texturizing.

I go to a salon. I tried doing it myself, but I felt like I was doing more harm than good. I only go 3-4 times a year and my stylist does a good job.

My Mama. Better than any stylist, too. Plus, you know your own Mama ain't gon mess you up, .

I go to the salon. I've tried it myself and I either under-process spots, over-process spots, or miss spots completely. Sad I know :ohwell:

For those of you who do relaxers yourself, what do you use to base the scalp? Vaseline? Hair oil?

For my last touch up, the night before I oiled my scalp with Africa's Best Ultimate Herbal oil. On the day of the touch up, I used Softee Coconut grease to base my scalp. My relaxer did not burn at all.

I voted that I do my touch ups myself but that's not entirely true. Since it was my 1st time relaxing my hubby helped too.

I relunctantly relax myself. I wish I had someone skillful to do it for me (it's way too much work and I usually make a mess in the bathroom). Unfortunately I use phyto and it's painful trying to find a hairdresser that has it. Most will not use the relaxer I have and the ones who would, charge me the regular price, $70!!! I pay $60 for the relaxer - $130 to relax my hair is way too much to spend on hair!

I usually base my scalp with the base included in the relaxer kit.

He applied to the relaxer to the back sections of my hair while I did the front and sides. :D

He also did a spot check for me while I was rinsing and neutralizing. :sekret:

We had practiced using conditioner first, so we had the motions down. I trust him (and myself) a lot more than some of those other crazy stylists I used to go to, that's fo' sho'!

My mother does mine. I don't always like her technique, but I haven't had any problems yet. I know I will have to do it myself eventually, or find a good stylist.
