I relaxed my hair at 12 so by then I was already used to my natural hair but I coveted the swang. After a while the swang broke off because I wasnt taking care of it and I wasnt a relax every 6 weeks kind of person. Then I had a half head weave in for 6 months and my hair grew sooooo long under this weave but the ends broke off again leaving me with natural hair . (T'was a sign ya'll) By this time half my head was natural and half was relaxed. Then I had my eureka moment and decided I liked curly hair better and wore my hair in a curly puff ponytail for years. Gradually cutting the relaxed hair off but still not taking care of it,just yanking the ponytail off and breaking off my ends in the process. When I started doing weaves and was broke right before my next install and didnt know what I was going to do. Then ya'll rescued me from broken and split ends and introduced me to healthy hair and I got my swang back! So its a win win situation. Havent looked back since.

I did !!! I wanted my hair to have the same color as Faith Evans hair in ... :look::look::look: I forgot the name of the song buttt the lady told me she couldn't do it but I was so psyched so I just picked another color... in 2wks I needed a relaxer... went to my usual stylist.. he put a perm in and chunk by chunk my hair starting coming out.. <<THE CHICK DIDN"T TELL ME SHE BLEACHED MY HAIR FOR A DEEP BROWN.. DEEP BROWN?? WHY U PUT BLEACH IN IT!!!>> :whip::whip: sorry had a quick flashback but uhh anyway my awesome stylist rushed and put an extreme protein treatment on it to stop it from falling which saved most of my hair but he said in order to restore my hair strength to not get any relaxers for a "while" and he hot combed it for a good time after until I moved.. Anyway that "while" turned into 4 1/2 years.. :yep::yep::yep:

Me!! I had no concious thought to stop getting relaxers, I was laid off from work, and going to the salon was not a priority, and then I looked at the condition of my hair and just felt sick and tired of it, I was just going to keep braiding my hair and then a few months later I decided I may as well get rid of the relaxed hair since I cant seem to have healthy relaxed hair.

Accident here. I had a weave that I liked so much that I didn't take it out for almost 4 months. When I did I had so much NG that I thought maybe I'll just give my hair a break from relaxing. The weave went back in and when I took it out I somehow couldn't bring myself to relax. Friends would ask 'what are you doing with your hair' and I didn't know but just kept delaying the relaxer. It was so strange but I knew I didn't want to go back not even to the weave. I big chopped in March '08 and found LHCF 7 mos later.

I had recently graduated from college in 2002 and moved back home away from my trusted hairdresser. I went to my mothers and had an awful experience and just said i would hold out until I had a recommendation I trusted to try. That never happened lol. A year passed and I just said what the heck, I've gone this far without relaxing and never turned back.

I made a conscious decision to stop relaxing my hair after doing some research because I was flat ironing my hair too much (it was super humid). I didn't really transition though, because I was terrible at all of those styles and I was bone straight relaxed so when my new growth was about 3-4 months, my hair was poofy on top then all limp at the bottom. So I got a mohawk (I couldn't part with ALL of my hair), wore that for a few months, then BC'ed.

I say by accident as well. I wore a weave for like 8+ years. About a year or two into it, my stylist would only do a halo on my hair (I think its what most people call tex-lax now). But my hair kept thinning to the point that she decided to forgo the relaxing. Once my new growth grew out enough to make it a difference, she liked the "thickness" of my unrelaxed hair in the braids.

Once I removed the weave in 2008, I decided to stay unrelaxed ever since. I think my last relaxer was back in 2004 or 2005.

In November of 2009 I texlaxed my hair and had the worst breakage I every had since I started texlaxing my hair. I lost my thickness and was upset. So I decided to give my hair a break from perms and after about 4 months I decided that I was going to go natural because my hair just does not work well with chemicals. I am still transitioning and I probably won't have to bc since most of my texlax hair has broken off.

I have a sensitive spot in my scalp where my hair is always breaking. One time, it was feeling really irritated back there and I was like it would be stupid to put chemicals on top of an already irritated scalp, so I was like I am going to take a break from relaxers until my scalp feels better. After about 3 months I decided to stretch and see if I felt I could handle my natural hair bc I figured why keep adding chemicals and having the same issues, thats stupid. After 6 months I decided to officially transition.

I became a stretcher after finding LHCF and it led me to going natural. :yep:

I kept stretching and bunning, bunning and stretching. I felt, why should I pay money to relax my hair and I almost never wear it out. Then I fell in love with my newgrowth and relaxers became a thing of the past. All of that stretching and relaxing just didn't make sense to me. :nono:

i use to get my hair permed and styled but in between salon visits i would get my hair braided in individuals...well, one night i took down my braids and forgot to detangle before washing my hair...i just wanted really clean hair immediately....needless to say, i turned my head into a big ball of knots and tangles and was forced to do a big chop....i was horrified and embarassed but i started to receive compliments on my natural hair texture...the attention kept me from further perming and weaving... i allowed my hair to bear the fruit it was meant to bear :) and pretty soon i was sporting a serious slash-esque curly-fro...

Not really an accident but I wondered why did I get a relaxer in the first place, if I only relaxed twice a year? Well I stopped only because my crown area was thinning and I figured it was the relaxer. Back in 2005 there wasnt a surge in women "going natural" so I had no idea what I was doing at the time.

Now that I recently cut all my hair off on a whim.... I am looking forward to re-learning about my hair, even though I was natural for 5 years (the first time I grew it out to bob length and flat ironed it all the time).

at first i just didn't feel like getting a relaxer. I only got one a couple times a year anyway and i think i was only texlaxing looking back.

edit: Oh i'm not natural yet, i'm transitioning. :/ i ended up getting a relaxer a few months after i decided not to at the request of someone, even though i didn't want to. :( i would probably be natural by now. :(

My stylist was the one who got me to go natural. I was in the salon one day getting my weekly wash n set and my stylist says to me " I dont think we need to relax your hair anymore, it can get straight without it". I'm like okay whatever as long as you get it straight I didn't care.

I really didnt go through the whole "transition" process. I just had my hair blown out and flat ironed every week as usual. One day after my stylist washed my hair I noticed how curly it was and I asked if I could wear my hair like that. Her response was that I would need to get texturizer to wear it curly. That sounded too complicated and similar to a relaxer so I said no.

It wasnt until years later when a natural coworker started talking to me about her hair and explained to me how I can style my natural curls. She hipped me to all the hair boards, ect. The rest is history.............

Goodbye relaxers forever

for me, i wasn't gonna go natural. i was going to grow the permed hair out and then i was going to perm again. i had about 5 or 6 inches of new growth. i cut the straight hair i had left off. so when i did that, i got a chance to look at how my natural hair really was, and i loved it. so i just let it stay natural. then i just started to look up ways to take care of it, and here i am, nine years later still natural. :D

I became natural by accident back in '08. I was stretching my relaxers just to stretch them to see more growth from the relaxers. I had always been curious about going natural but didn't really know how to go about doing it. For the very VERY first time in my life, I went to a stylist to get my relaxer done after like 6 months of stretching. This stupid girl mixed the salon brand relaxer with my relaxer that I bought for her to use. She mixed it while she was doing my hair and did not tell me what the hell she was doing. So all was fine, it didn't burn or anything but dam the next day I was like hold up my damn scalp is burning and my ends looked fried. So I did a wait out. About 1-2 wks later my hair began to split from the ends and after a month it split all the way up to the root. I went back to the salon when it initially began to tear and I asked her what was up with that and she said, "oh u must be having a reaction to the relaxers". I said relaxers? With a 'S'? What you mean? This idiot said my new growth was too thick for just a medium relaxer and it never would have taken so she mixed in super with it. My cousin had to come get me because I was about to slap her.

Well....I cut all that schit off hell it was gonna fall out anyway. I sued them...ha, ha and I won. But anyway so yeah that is my big story. I think it all happened for a reason too because I loves being natural honeychild lemme tell ya! 2 years strong over here!

omg that was so wrong what that girl did! i mean dang you brought with you want you wanted her to use on your head, and she mixed it with something else? a mess! you did right by sueing them. i'm glad you won. :yep:
