Okay, I am going to buy one tonight and give it a try. This will be the first time I flatironed/pressed my own hair. If it comes out right, I am gonna may cancel my Friday hair appointment. I'm excited now!

Leejure, when I got to the back the ends were a little dry so I used some WGO(my first time using it). It works really nice and made the ends iron really well. I like this stuff(although it stinks a little). But it's great for pressing...
It's also a little hard on the arms(and my hair is not nearly as long as yours)... That's why I did the front then took a break and did the back.

Okay y'all. I bought the flat iron (pix #2) and it worked well. HOWEVER, I it did not get my hair really sleek and smooth like my beautician has it. But it s definitely a keeper. This was the first time in two months that I have had my hair blow-dried and straightened and I have obtain about 3 1/2 to 4 inches since the last (FEB) picture so that's cool. I think I am still going to keep my Friday appointment. If so, I will post and updated pix then.

All in all, I thought it worked very well.

Leejure, mine came out pretty smooth but I'm thinking about trying the 'saran wrap' trick the next time to see if I can get it even smoother.

Don't forget to post the pics Firday.

What size is better? I heard some say that if it's too wide its hard to do the roots properly. Please advise!!

I must admit, flat irons are a complete mystery to me. Just looking at it, I can't figure out how you straighten the roots without burning yourself. Do you have to be as careful with the iron as with the pressing comb - and how is the iron better? Thanks, chicas.

dontspeakdefeat, don't feel bad. i also got an expensive flat iron, the Hai convertible one. i thought they were all about the same until i bought the first Jilbere one in the photo above. right away, i could tell the difference. the plates aren't as smooth. as example, picture the surface of a ceramic kitchen tile compared to the inside of a teflon frying pan. it's smooth but not like a tile. the Jilbere i got was definitely coated. after trying it on the highest setting on one section of hair, i returned it to the store. i believe the second one in the photo is a higher quality because it costs a little more. i have read of people complaining about the surface peeling though...

lafemme, it's definitely not the same as using a pressing comb. i have yet to burn my skin or hair with the one that i have.

are those jibere ones ceramic plates or plat-ED?

[/ QUOTE ]

Good question. At these prices, I'm guessing it's plat-ED... The ad copy reads: "Ceramic Pulse technology..." and "Slim ceramic plate design..."

[/ QUOTE ]

With in a number of days I've gone from the Conair $14.82 iron to the Jibere $29.99 and it sounds like it's not over yet.

I'm wondering, what is the difference in the results you get from a ceramic plated vs. a ceramic plat-ed flat iron? Which is better for your hair?

Adrienne you have made me feel so much better because I thought that maybe I paid too much. The plates on my Unil are thick and solid no coating just plates. It heats up in 10 seconds. I love this iron!

You can get good deals on the high-end ceramic irons on Ebay. The one that was featured on the Maury Povitch show (Superstar) retails for $100-$150. I saw it on Ebay for $70. No, I didn't buy it!

My aunt ordered the one that was featured on Maury. She's going to let me know how it works...

Ditto!

I just used the first iron (one without the dials) last nite but it was after a touchup so I dont know how it will straighten weeks post relaxer. But my hair is shiny and soft, but im still debating on the straightness. I dont think it was hot enough. I dunno whether to exhange it or not for the 2nd one

The 2nd one model JB2555 I paid $29.99 during the sale at Sally's. The sticker price (reg.price) is $39.99 and $37.99 for those who have a green card.

Here's the one from Maury. On Ebay just type in "Superstar".

My aunt ordered it after her husband told her not to. She had it shipped to her job.

My aunt ordered hers the day before the sale ended. She hasn't received it yet. I'll let you know in this thread what she thinks. She's never used a ceramic iron before. I think she still uses the fabric covered one she bought 10 yrs ago! Her stylist recommended a fabric covered one because they are gentler on the hair.
ohwell.gif
She has natural hair in the 3 category and she uses a curling iron to straighten her hair 2x-3x a week.

I told her about the Jilbere, but she wanted the Superstar...

No. I read about it here and then told some relatives about it. Hoping one of them would buy it and let me try it and compare at least once.

I fought the urge to buy the Superstar when it was $99. I'm interested in trying the Hai and Chi brands. The site on your link says the Superstar is plate-ED, not cermaic plates.

For $100+ I want real ceramic plates.
