Okay...I think I picked up the wrong one. The one I got at lunch was 19.99. This one doesn't have the dial with the temperature settings either. Should I go back and get the bottom one...or does it matter?

This is the one I got...

Sally's has a sale(it's over after today). The 2nd one is on sale for 29.99.
My question to you is do you like the results you get with the first one?

What's great about a ceramic flat iron?

[/ QUOTE ]From what I've been reading, it's suppose to get your hair silky straight with out a lot of heat. The surface supposedly does not have hot spots that can burn your hair. Someone correct me if I'm wrong....

Wow I bought mine on sale for 26.99 (reg 29.99) about a week ago. I've havent used it yet. I used it on my sister and her hair came out really shiny and soft but you can only do small sections of hair at a time. I just dont know if it gets hot enough (i think its around 220 deg max.), I would go with the dials

@ AmiLion:

I can straighten my very nappy hair with the Jilbere on the 10 setting. It will get straight after one or two passes of the iron. And it doesn't have that straight/frizzy/dry look... I had to crank the Solid Gold iron up to the highest setting and go over each section three or four times before it got straight. And my hair would stick to the Solid Gold iron.

It glides right through the Jilbere. This is the only ceramic iron I've ever had nd I'm hooked. If the $100+ are better than this then I know what I want for Christmas this year...

Sassygirl you have the bottom one right?
I guess I'll be going back to Sally's on my way home to exchange the one I got.

The bottom one is the one I was talking about. I remember someone (Valleygirl?) recommending it but I wanted wider plates and ended up with the iron I have now.

I'm researching irons myself right now. Features I'd prefer are:

1. ceramic plates, not ceramic-plated (surface wears off)
2. multi temperature dial (I don't wanna burn my hair)
3. no seams to snag hair (I wanna keep my hair)
4. wide plates (reduces straightening time)
5. reasonably priced

Somebody please tell me there's an iron like this out there somewhere.

pardon the ignorance but how does one use this iron? i understand it's section by section but do you just glide it thru your hair or do you have to glide... pause... glide... pause and repeat?

SVT, I mentioned the Wigo ceramic iron in another post. I love mine

and I believe it fits all of your criteria. The plates are wide and it's never snagged my hair. Best of all my hair is smooth using setting one and it heats up in 1 minute.

220 is actually quite hot. It's like 430 degrees F. I agree the dials gives you more variety and you don't have to burn your hair.

With my experience with this iron, it straightens your hair similiar like the ones at the salon.

are those jibere ones ceramic plates or plat-ED?

[/ QUOTE ]

Good question. At these prices, I'm guessing it's plat-ED... The ad copy reads: "Ceramic Pulse technology..." and "Slim ceramic plate design..."

I believe that it is ceramic but I will get back at you. The Conair ones like in Wal-Mart are ceramic-plated no doubt. That's why they are so cheap.

Yes you have to section your hair, well for me since my hair is on the thick side. Basically you glide over hair, no need to pause over a section. I'm just basing my experience with this type of iron.

I got the first one in the picture and it is going back to the store today. It didn't get my hair straight enough, it just sucked.

I made the exchange and now have the 2nd one. My hair finally dry(damp most of the day) dry so I'm gonna try it on my air dried hair tonight. I don't think I will need to blowdry first..but I will see. I know it's gonna be humid tomorrow but I want to try it out tonight. If I need a blowdryer I'll buy one of the new ionic ones.

Okay , I just finished the front half of my hair....all I can say is WOW! My old flat iron has nothing on this! I started out on 5 but cut it back to 3. I didn't need to blowdry first like I did Sunday. I also didn't need to add anything to my hair before ironing, because my hair was still moisturized from my leave-in that I mix up when I air dry. I do feel a little anxious about using the heat...but since I didn't need the blowdryer and I have it on a low setting... and... I still will be shampooing or rinsing 3 times a week, I feel that once every 1 to 2 weeks( depending on the weather) will be okay. If my hair starts to feel dry I'll just stop for a while.
I love it! I wish I had tried this sooner. But this definitely will not be an everyday thing for me....it's like a piece of chocolate...a little bit here and there will keep me from 'binging'!

I have the 1st one didn't really like it, too small...so I bought a larger one that I use more often.

Okay, I am going to buy one tonight and give it a try. This will be the first time I flatironed/pressed my own hair. If it comes out right, I am gonna may cancel my Friday hair appointment. I'm excited now!

I wish I had known about the cheaper versions before I broke off a big piece of cash for my Unil iron. I am very satisfied with my iron though.
