Please participate in the poll! I just need a little help with hiding my hair this fall/winter successfully, I just got a huge smack in the face by the weather yesterday, it was a high of 44. I'm new here and even though I am originally from a cold place I have lived in a decent/nice weathered place for like 7 years. So I'm like WTH:perplexed!

So is it braids/twists or Wigs? I need some help also if you use these these methods what is your regimen? Thank you!

I voted other. For me braids were too much stress on my scalp. I did a full wig for a few months and it was great but it wreaked havoc on my edges. I have been toying with the idea of a half wig for more than a year now, and I keep thinking about what damage it may cause. So for now, my answer is "other". Experiment with buns and pretty updos.

I'm in the UK and it gets really cold here but I don't hide my hair.

I hardly ever recommend extensions because I don't do them mainly cos of my edges. So....

I think your half wig and your phony puff should work fine - they both look really good :-)
As for reggies... I'm sure other ladies will chime in.

I voted wigs. I use lacewigs but I give my self a break every 3-4mths just because I hate the tan line I get when wearing them for a long time and I get breakouts from the adhesives but I love them for total protection. I also use halfwigs because I can take care of my hair everyday and I baggy with them on my only issue is I am scared that my fine hair that I leave out will break off so I alternate.

MY regi is simple:
Wash/DC weekly (using both)
Moisturize daily/ baggy(half wigs)

Half wigs. Take the combs out and use bobby pins instead. And you don't have to leave hair out. Just put on a headband and push it back so that your edges are showing.

Braids/twists w/extensions are too much for my edges. I like weaves the best though.

Wigs and half wigs did wonders for my hair. I always looked fabulous with very little effort and my hair was protected and really thrived. Plus if you are somewhere cold it keeps your head warm!

Have you checked out Hairsister.com for ideas? I really like their selection and pricing.

HHG!

I love braids and partial weaves. You can still have a hairstyle that looks natural and still protect your hair. I am in and out of weaves, braids, or wash and go's. My hair does great in braids and partials, and it stays thick.

I don't use the combs either, I have never tried the tip without leaving hair out. I need to do that thanks MSA!

How does a wig wreak havoc on your edges? I'm getting one soon, but want to be sure it doesn't cause more harm than good.

The friction.

For me, my hair cannot handle the stress. I had braids on and off for 5 months back when I first started with this healthy hair regimen. I saw crazy progress, but the edges could not handle it. Then I switched to wigs. Again, my hair thrived but my edges suffered. But I have weaker edges in general, so I know that I am susecptible to it moreso than some other women.

IMHO it's braids or twists. If you want to keep your length even when your hair is wet try pixie braids. You can wash your hair (NB scalp) in braids too
Braid extensions work (it's better to learn how to do them yourself). You can wash, DC and do whatever you want with braids

As for twists, I find my hair is the most healthy when in twists but the shrinkage is crazy.

When you put your hair under a wig don't you have to braid it first?

It's very important to be careful around edges

I'm considering a LF wig too just for going out

I agree, I use to do protective style with the "Falls" and even though it was a half wig my edges and nape suffered and although I made sure I kept my hair moisturized my hair still felt dry and shedded more than me wearing my hair down. I would like to wear buns but I noticed that I have a LOT of shedding when I wear buns. And braids are out of the question for me I cant even wear sew ins because of all the shedding I get. My hair is so fine and sensitive that minimum stress = breakage for me.
The only thing that works for me is pinning the hair up. I do plan on wearing falls again but right now I am giving my hair a break.

I like wigs for protective stying.. I love being able to easily access my hair whenever I want to do a good Dc or protein treatment. I alternate between full and half wigs.. I dont have enough hair yet to do a nice bun!

I voted other. Not sure if you meant braiding or twisting your own hair or going to a salon and having them do those tight ones I see people wearing. If you are talking about those I wouldn't get them as it seems it wrecks havoc on those women's edges.

I would suggest braids/braid-outs, twist/twist-outs with your own hair and/or wigs. I personally don't do protective styling so I don't have any experience other than when I have worn wigs for promotional modeling! Wigs can be fun for sure!

I like braids, but wigs are probably better since you can take it off and get to your hair.

My hair thrives with braids though.

I like wigs because I have access to do whatever I want and still look fly . Like for instance, I'm at work and while pre-pooing.

Wigs

they save me money-I buy synthetic so $20 per wig
I can stay out the salon
I can deep condition and moisturize my hair better than with weaves
And If I get tired of it, it comes off in a second

I havent gotten any problems with the half wig, I use. I must have "strong" edges because I used to wear a lot of tight braids and I still have a hairline. But I have heard many people having problems with full wigs and their hairline so I just stick to the half wigs and I ALWAYS take the combs out. Those combs will cause breakage for sure.

ETA: Braids worked VERY well for me. I retained lots of length before with them in the past. When I was watching my hair like a hawk and it would grt longer for anything I wore some braids and it got longer but at this point the in my hair journey I dont like anyone in my hair so the wig is best for me.

Hi OP, saw that you're in colorado springs, i grew up in auroroa, co. anyways.
i think what protective style you choose depends on alot of things. i was struggling with this concept as well. for me, i think its braids. i have to moisturize my hair daily, and extra care of my edges, but i see great growth (since i'm retaining alot of me length) and its the easiest get up and go style for me. my edges and sides are very weak also, and my hair is really fine. i try not to get styles that put extra strain on my edges, such as micros, and ask the braider to not braid the hairline too tight. for me, weaves are way too expensive, and i tried wigs, but the natural looking ones are too expensive as well, and i hate having to worry about is it on straight or not (i know you can use tapeor bobby pens). bunning was the most economical protective style for me though, but i hated the amount of manipulation it was starting to take to be presentable.

Wigs are just the easiest for me. They are sexy, stylish and simple to take care of, provided I choose the right ones.

People know I have hair, but I'm waiting for my hair to be as long as my wigs (BSL to tailbone). I'll get a few short ones soon.

This is exactly what I do! I voted for the wigs too... I am afraid the braids will do more harm than help!

I voted braids or twist. When relaxed I was in a bun or braids/braidouts. This winter I will be in twist. I never wore wigs (they just dont look right on me)
